MARINCIRCHE CHURCH - PULA
The ornamental church in Pula (Marincirche Church, Chiesa della Marina, today the church of Our Lady of the Sea) was built on the hill of St. Polikarp in Pula at the end of the 19th century. More precisely, the construction began in 1891, and the church was completed in 1898. The style of construction is a mixture of neo-bizanty and neoromantics, and left its mark on the church to three architects: Friedrich von Schmidt, Victor Lunz and Natale Tommasi. The latter was from the area of Trento and in 1890 he designed the building of the German State Gymnasium in Pula (now the Archaeological Museum of Istria) and the parish church of Sv. Agnese in Medulin.
The church is entirely built of alternating rows of white Istrian stone from Brijuni and the roaring marble extracted in the quarries of Oprtalj and Brtonigla. The rich exterior decoration is followed by nothing less rich decoration of the church interior. Beside the church is a bell tower 28 meters high made by Tommasi project. The top of the bell tower is flat, and there is a bronze statue of angel wings spread, the work of prof. Raffaette from Trent. It is also crowned with the upper row of quadriforers (4 openings ending in poles) and lower row of trifors. The bell tower hides 5 bells.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the car Franjo Josip from whose treasury church was financed. Anegdote says that during this visit the church was besieging the marble column, which is naturally present (as it is already) concerned, wondered if he did not like the church. The answer of Francis Joseph was: I'm just checking if it's under the gold, given how much church building is costing.

Croatia Sailing Trip | Part 5 | Vela Luka
In this part of our sailing trip, We moored the boat in Korčula dock marina, went to Vela Luka and visited some wineries including bire winery in Lombarda, some wine tasting and bottle sipping with snacks, top of the mountains ride and back to the Korčula marina which its visit will be published next.
-Vela Luka is a small town and a municipality in Dubrovnik-Neretva County in southern Dalmatia, Croatia. The town is located on the western side of the island of Korčula at the bottom of a wide bay which has many indented coves. Vela Luka developed at the beginning of the 19th century in a deep sheltered bay. Its name means big harbour in Croatian chakavian. Inhabitants of the Island of Korčula and Pelješac often refer to it simply as Luka (the port/harbour). It has several hotels and a medical centre called Kalos (for rheumatic disorders and rehabilitation). The inhabitants are farmers, fishermen and workers in tourism. Also the town has other smaller industrial plants.
It has an average of over 2500 hours of sunny weather annually, and is the second largest place, in size, on the Adriatic islands. The diversity and richness of the cultural inheritance of Vela Luka can be seen in the exceptional museums and galleries that are located in the Center for Culture in the town center. The Center for Culture is located in the building that was constructed for school needs in the second half of the 19th century, so the building itself has historical significance. It is located near the Parish Church of St. Joseph. Together they create a magnificent urban structure in the typical Mediterranean spirit.
The museum/gallery is decorated with mosaics made in 1968 when the International Artist's Meeting of Painters was held in Vela Luka.
Vela Luka has many archaeological and architectural points of interest. On the south slope of the hill, Pinski Rat, there is an extraordinary archaeological site. It is called Vela Spila (Big Cave) and it is one of the most important prehistoric cave dwellings in Europe. Vela Spila provides a picture of life on the Mediterranean of Mesolithic and Neolithic people living in that region. Carbon dating has shown that there was human activity going back 20 000 years. The finds are on display at the Center for Culture in Vela Luka. The cave's interior measures approximately 1500 sq. meters and it is located several hundred meters above the beautiful Vela Luka Bay. Another panoramic view of the area can be seen from Hum Hill and the Forteca, an Austro-Hungarian fortress built in the 19th century. Vela Luka has a rich history of Klapa singing (an a cappella style). One of the best known is the Klapa Ošjak.

From Wikipedia
The Sacred Heart Cathedral (Serbo-Croatian: Katedrala Srca Isusova; Катедрала Срца Исусова) is a Catholic church in Sarajevo; commonly referred as the Sarajevo Cathedral (Sarajevska katedrala / Сарајевска катедрала), it is the largest cathedral in Bosnia and Herzegovina.[2] It is the seat of the Archbishop of Vrhbosna, currently Cardinal Vinko Puljić, and center of Catholic worship in the city. The Cathedral is located in the city's Old Town district.
Sacred Heart Cathedral was built in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an important Catholic concept. The building is in the Neo-Gothic style, with Romanesque Revival elements. The building was awarded to the Viennese contractor Baron Karl Schwarz with supervising architect Josip Vancaš. He modeled it after the Notre-Dame in Dijon (France). Work began on 25 August 1884, and was completed on 9 November 1887. The Bishop of Dubrovnik was present for the consecration on 14 September 1889.
Peace demonstration in front of the cathedral on September 1991 prior to the outbreak of the Bosnian War.
The building was damaged during the Siege of Sarajevo, but not completely destroyed, and the damage has since been repaired. The building is often considered as a symbol of the city: The design above the door to the Cathedral is part of the flag and seal of Sarajevo Canton and the Romanesque towers are featured on the flag and coat of arms of Sarajevo.
Exterior[edit]
The cathedral is 41.9 meters long and 21.3 meter wide. It was constructed in Neo-Gothic style; The two bell towers are 43.2 m high. Above the portal is an octagonal rosette and a statue of the Sacred Heart.
Interior[edit]
The main altar was designed by Josip Vancaš and made from Grisignano marble. It rests on four small columns of red Tyrolean marble. The seven niches behind the altar depict in the central position: Sacred Heart of Jesus; on the left side: St. Joseph and St. Francis of Assisi; on the right side: St. Michael and the prophet Elijah; on the extremities: statue of an angel.
Side altars: in the western aisle is an altar dedicated to the Immaculate Conception (a donation of Emperor Franz Joseph I). In the eastern aisle, an altar dedicated to the apostles of the Slavs, St. Cyril and St. Methodius (a donation of the people of Bohemia).
Pulpit: the pulpit is mounted on a richly decorated pedestal. The enclosure shows in the central part Jesus as teacher, flanked on each side by two Evangelists.
Frescoes: in 1886 the frescoes were commissioned to Alexander Maximilian Seitz (1811–1888). Due to his deteriorating health he could only finish the designs in 1887. The execution was undertaken by his assistant Alberto Rohden.
on the wall of the western bell tower : the Coronation of Mary. The lower part of the fresco shows a father, mother and child in national dress, surrounded by St. Francis of Assisi and St. Dominic.
on the wall of the eastern bell ltower: the Resurrection of Jesus.
in the vault: a depiction of the Sermon on the Mount and a depiction of Moses receiving the Ten Commandments, both by Ante Martinović (replica on canvas of the fresco by A.M. Seitz).
in the indentations above the vaults: oil paintings in chiaroscuro of the Doctors of the Church, done on canvas in Rome by Lodovico Seitz (1844-1908), son of Alexander Seitz.
Organ: manufactured by the Heferer Company of Zagreb. It has mechanical tractions, two manuals, pedal and 22 sound registers.
