Church of All Saints, Yekaterinburg
In January I visited Yekaterinburg. I got a special look at the inside of the church built on the site where Russia's last tsar was murdered in cold blood along with his family and servants.

I didn't go inside and it doesn't really matter. The only thing that matter this time is the site where it was built.

Overnight procession marks 100th anniversary of last Russian tsar's death
(17 Jul 2018) Thousands of pilgrims began a procession on Tuesday to mark the 100th anniversary of the execution of Czar Nicholas II and his family.
The procession started out from the Church on the Blood, which was built on the site of the execution and was set to end at the site where the bodies were dumped some 21 kilometres (13 miles) away.
The procession was led by Patriarch Kirill, head of the Russian Orthodox Church, which canonised the czar and his family as martyrs.
Russia's last czar, his wife and five children were executed by Bolshevik soldiers in Yekaterinburg 18 months after Nicholas abdicated in the February 1917 revolution.
They had been moved from detention in St. Petersburg to Siberia as the Russian Civil War raged.

The remains of two members of the Russian royal family who escaped
the 1917 Russian Revolution and died in Europe nearly 60 years
ago, were returned on Tuesday (7/3) for burial in St Petersburg.
Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich, a second cousin to the last tsar
Nicholas II, and his wife, Viktoriya Fyodorovna, were moved from
Germany to the Peter and Paul Fortress cathedral, the burial place

Travel Russia - Visiting the Cathedral on Blood in Yekaterinburg
Take a tour of Cathedral on Blood Yekaterinburg in Yekaterinburg, Russian Federation -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The Cathedral on Blood in Yekaterinburg is not a typical Russian Orthodox church.
This was the site of Tsar Nicholas the II's last moments before being killed during the Bolshevik Revolution.
The church was built over what was formerly the Ipatiev house, where the Tsar and his family were kept before the assassinations.
Therefore, the Cathedral is an imperative part of Russia's gruesome political history.
The golden domes of the Cathedral are standard for this architectural style.
The natural allure of the surrounding Ural mountains provide visitors another motive to visit this crucial monument.
Russia: Protesters rally against construction of church in Yekaterinburg
Hundreds of people protested against an Orthodox Church being built in a park in Yekaterinburg, on Tuesday.
Four people were reportedly detained as they tried to sneak through the fence around the construction site. Earlier, protesters tried to break the barrier and threw part of it into the river.
Demonstrators are demanding the preservation of the park and green spaces in the central Russian city. Tuesday was the second days of protests in a long-running dispute over the planned church.
St Catherine's Cathedral is due to be completed by 2023 in time for the 300th anniversary of the founding of Yekaterinburg.
Yevgeny Kuivashev, Governor of the Sverdlovsk Oblast, responded to the recent protests on his Instagram account.
In this situation, one can understand believers, for whom the restoration of St. Catherine's Cathedral in the city is a question that rises from year to year and that still needs to be resolved. One can also understand protesters, for whom it is important to preserve every green tree in the centre of Yekaterinburg.
He called for dialogue between the church and protesters and invited them for talks.

They all (the Czar family) should be buried, only after that we can say that the civil war is over in Russia, which is very important for the country. I want to stress that more important than the formal legal procedures is the moral sense, which must emerge and become sharp. We must say to each other - yes, we committed a terrible crime, but we repent and we draw a line (under it).

LEAD IN:
The mysterious history of the Romanovs, the Russian royal family, seemed to end in 1998, when the remains of Nicholas II, his wife, Alexandra and their three daughters were laid to rest with state honours in Saint Petersburg.
In 1918 the whole family was shot dead in a basement in Yekaterinburg.
But just a few days ahead of the 90th anniversary of the royal family massacre, the question of authenticity and rehabilitation of the Czar's family is once again in the spotlight.
STORYLINE:
The funeral service for Nicholas II, his wife, Alexandra and their three daughters was held in St. Catherine Chapel in the St. Peter and Paul Cathedral, where all other Russian Emperors since Peter the Great lie.
Nicholas II abdicated after the Bolsheviks came to power in 1917. The Czar, his wife, their son and four daughters were detained.

Church on Blood (Church of All Saints). Ekaterinburg, Russia
Across the street from the Rastorguyev-Kharitonov mansion is the Church on Blood, one of Russia's largest churches. It stands on the spot where the members of the Russian Imperial family and several of their attendants were shot by the Bolsheviks in July 1918. The building where the execution took place, Ipatyev House, was demolished in 1977. During the Perestroika years, pilgrims started to arrive here. A wooden cross was installed in 1990, and later a wooden chapel appeared.
The church itself was opened at the beginning of the 2000s. The design made use of the floor plan of the demolished Ipatyev House. The raised level of the building resembles a church oil lamp. Today, the Church on Blood houses an exhibit dedicated to the events of 1918 and organises art exhibitions.

Russia: Liturgy held at burial place of Emperor Nicholas II's family

A Liturgy was held at the burial place of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II's family in Yekaterinburg on Tuesday.
Up to 40 bishops and 10,000 people, reportedly participated in the liturgy in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the shooting of the Emperor’s family.
The last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, his wife, five of their children and four servants were killed on 17 July, 1918, in Yekaterinburg. In 2000, members of the former Royal family were canonised.
SOT, Patriarch Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia (Russian): “Perhaps the first and most important lesson we must learn from the tragedy that happened a century ago is that no promises of a new, happy life, no hopes for outside help, which can be supposedly provided by more educated and advanced people, should seduce our people. We must remember the tragedy of the past. We must develop immunity to any calls to achieve human happiness through the destruction of what we have.”
SOT, Olga Kulikovskaya-Romanova, Widow of nephew of Nicholas II of Russia (Russia): “It is a part of our contribution to the memory. The main thing is worshipping and the feelings that we pray to them but not for them since we have glorified them, the God has glorified them. We pray to them and feel their constant help.”
