Emperor Diocletian
The Temple of Jupiter (Croatian: Jupiterov hram) is a temple in Split, Croatia dedicated to the Ancient Roman god Jupiter. It is located in the western part of Diocletian's Palace near the Peristyle, the central square of the imperial complex. It was built between 295 and 305, during the construction of the Palace, and was probably turned into Baptistery of St. John the Baptist in the 6th century, at the same time when the crypt dedicated to St. Thomas was built. Before the entrance to the Temple is one of the twelve sphinxes brought from Egypt by Emperor Diocletian. Scottish architect Robert Adam considered this temple to be one of Europe's most beautiful monuments.
Description
The Temple of Jupiter was constructed between 295 and 305 as part of Diocletian's Palace. It was dedicated to the supreme Roman god and Diocletian's divine father, Jupiter. The temple is located in the western, religious part of the palace. Since the Emperor unexpectedly abdicated the throne in 305 and arrived at the palace from Nicomedia earlier, finishing work on the construction of the Palace was stopped so parts of the Temple remained unfinished.
Reliefs depicting gods and various heroes, such as Victoria, Triton, Helios, Hercules, Jupiter and Apollo, are placed in front of the Temple, above the entrance. Doorways are richly decorated, especially the impressive Temple's barrel coffered vault.
Sarcophagi, containing the remains of two Archbishops of Split, Ivan of Ravenna (died c. 10) and Lovre (died c. 1099), are placed inside the Temple. In addition, there is a large bronze statue of St. John the Baptist made by Ivan Meštrović. A Renaissance sarcophagus of Jakov Selembrije from the 16th century is placed in front of the baptistery.
In the 11th century, a Romanesque style bell tower was built above the vault. It is similar to one in the Church of Our Lady of the Tower above Iron Gate of Diocletian's palace, which was demolished around 1840 in accordance with the then classicist aspirations which argued for purification of ancient monuments and buildings.
During late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, the Temple was converted into a baptistery dedicated to St. John the Baptist, while the crypt was dedicated to St. Thomas.
In the 13th century, the baptismal font made of parts of the altar partition from the 11th century which was originally located in the Cathedral was placed within the baptismal font. The oldest representation of Croatian king Peter Krešimir IV or Demetrius Zvonimir with their subjects is engraved on one of the marble rood screens. The second rood screen is decorated with pentagram with flowers and birds inside a star that is surrounded by a wreath which represents the Holy Trinity and the two natures of Jesus Christ - the divine and the human. A third rood screen is decorated with motifs of Croatian interlace in various forms.
The Temple's barrel coffered vault influenced Dalmatian early Renaissance art which is best seen in the example of Andrea Alessi's baptistery and Chapel of blessed John in Trogir.
In 1907, a few houses on the west and south side of the Temple were demolished, so the Temple was freed of fittings, except those in the northwest corner that are still leaning against it.

From Wikipedia
Zagreb Orthodox Cathedral or Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Lord (Serbian Cyrillic: Храм преображења Господњег, Croatian: Hram preobraženja Gospodnjeg) is a Serbian Orthodox Cathedral located on the Petar Preradović Square in Zagreb, Croatia. It was built in 1865–66 according to designs of architect Franjo Klein. It is ecclessiastically part of the Metropolitanate of Zagreb and Ljubljana and its cathedral.
Old St. Marguerite church[edit]
A wooden Catholic church dedicated to St. Marguerite was located on the place of the modern day cathedral in the 14th century.[1] The church was restored in the 16th and 17th century.[1] Between 1372 and the 19th century, the annual St. Marguerite fair was organized on the square.[2] In the 18th century the church was burned down in a fire and in its place a new one was built with bulbous steeple.[2]
Duding the Josephinism period the state implemented significant reforms that affected life of religious communities. In 1781 Patent of Toleration extended religious freedom to non-Catholic Christians living in Habsburg lands and was followed by 1782 Edict of Tolerance. By city government decision the old church was offered at auction and sold to the Zagreb Orthodox Parish for 4000 Austro-Hungarian forint.[1] In 1848, during Revolutions of 1848, the Orthodox Parish added the suffix Serbian in its name since by that time the Serbs significantly outnumbered local Greeks and Aromanians.[1]
In 1861 initiative was launched to build new church on the site of a dilapidated old St. Marguerite church.[2] Project was awarded to the architect Franjo Klein. In the same period when the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral was built, Zagreb Synagogue was also built according to the Franjo Klein project.[2] Church was completed on 21 October 1866, and synagogue on 27 September 1867.[2]
In 1897, after completion of urbanization of square south to the church, architect Hermann Bollé proposed plan of monumental reorganization of church.[2] This plan was never implemented, but the same architect developed a plan for restoration of bell tower in its modern-day shape in 1899, and in 1913 based on his plan façade was restored.[2]
World War II[edit]
Main article: World War II persecution of Serbs
During World War II collaborationist Croatian fascist Ustaše regime of Independent State of Croatia seized all property Serbian Orthodox Church and determined that cathedral will be central church of Croatian Orthodox Church what was part of widespread persecution of Serbs.
Architecture
iconostasis
First church iconostasis was placed in front of the altar in 1795.[1] This iconostasis was donated to Church of St. George in Varaždin in 1884 when new current iconostasis was built.[1] Orthodox Cathedral iconostasis comprises a total of 34 icons and 4 free-standing walnut pillars.[1] icons painted as frescos on the walls
In Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Zagreb Metropolitan Jovan Pavlović was buried in 2014 after he held position in 1982-2014 period.

Apartments Sabljak, Bibinje - Riviera Zadar, Croatia
More accommodations in Croatia:
Bibinje,a place of life and Dalmatian magic, adhered immediately along the south-east side of the Zadar,it takes only a few minutes from the mysterious silence of the historical Bibanum to get to the crowd of white Jader, the centre of the region, events,St.Donatus, sun ,sea organ...
Bibinje is wrapped by a veil of airy summer nights and the song opf a cappela bands which interwine with the starts in the clear sky.
Bibinje with about four thousands inhabitants, prepared to fulfil all your wishes,is spread over four kilometres of clear Adriatic coast. The history of Bibinje beggins with the first millennium ,the time of a Roman Empire. The name Bibanum was first mentioned in the books of the 11th century. To enter Bibinje history, inseparable from Zadar and Christianity, means to feel the sense of the tradition immersed in old wooden barrels ,exposed to wind and weather on the peninsula on which Staro selo lies. There you can see the church of the Nativity of St.John the Baptist built in the first half of the 15th century, with a collection of sacred objects from the same time. Also there is a baroque church of St.Roch, the protector of the souls of the embodiments of Bibinje, established in the 16th century.
The whole Bibinje summer is mottled by events, folklore evenings,festivities,concerts...But Bibinje everyday life is event itself-conversation between two ladies at the market, sleepy eyed fishermen in the harbour, the play of light-as if you magically get into the film from a different time...
