A Glimpse of Downtown Ilocos Norte
Ilocos Norte is noted for being the birthplace of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, who led an authoritarian rule over the country during the latter half of his incumbency. The Marcoses enjoy a modicum of popularity in the province. Ilocos Norte is also known as a northern tourist destination, being the location of Fort Ilocandia, an upper class beach resort famous among expatriates, and Pagudpud. locos Norte inhabitants are majority Roman Catholic, several other religious sects have a strong following in this area. Of these, the most notable is the Aglipayan Church, founded by Batac City native Gregorio Aglipay. Ilocos Norte is home to several famous Roman Catholic churches: Paoay Church (St. Augustine Church) - named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. , St. William's Cathedral in Laoag - famous for its Sinking Bell Tower , St. Monica Church in Sarrat - biggest church in the Ilocos Region. , Bacarra Church - destroyed during an intensity 7.8 earthquake in 1983, reconstructed and reinaugurated in 1984., Immaculate Conception Parish in Batac-Built in 1587 There are 22 towns in Ilocos Norte. AH26 Southbound: San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte to Vigan, Ilocos Sur
This segment starts from San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte going to Vigan, Ilocos Sur along AH26 Southbound. This is about 90+Km drive with stoppages at the following Points of Interests:
• San Agustin Church, Paoay:
The Saint Augustine Church, commonly known as the Paoay Church, is the Roman Catholic church of the municipality of Paoay, Ilocos Norte in the Philippines. Completed in 1710, the church is famous for its distinct architecture highlighted by the enormous buttresses on the sides and back of the building. It is declared as a National Cultural Treasure by the Philippine government in 1973 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the collective group
• Immaculate Conception Parish, Batac
• La Virgen Milagrosa De Badoc:
Badoc houses the Sanctuary of the Miraculous Statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the La Virgen Milagrosa. History traces the life-sized statue to Nagasaki, Japan. It was sent floating in the sea by missionaries operating in secret in Japan (for fear of persecution during the Tokugawa Regime), along with the Miraculous Statue of the Black Nazarene (Sinait's Santo Cristo Milagroso).
It was first found by local fishermen in the shores of Barangay Dadalaquiten of Sinait, Ilocos Sur and Barangay Paguetpet of Badoc, Ilocos Norte. In short, the boundary between Sinait and Badoc, in the year 1620. Only fishermen from Sinait were able to move the Statue of the Black Nazarene.
The fishermen from Badoc, unable to move the Black Nazarene, were able to move the La Virgen Milagrosa that came with it—which was, in turn, unable to be moved by the fishermen from Sinait. They took the statues to their respective towns, hence becoming their patron saints. Today The La Virgen Milagrosa is enshrined at the Badoc Church, as Barangay Paguetpet was renamed in honor of the La Virgen Milagrosa.
• Juan Luna Shrine, Badoc
The Juan Luna Shrine is the reconstructed two story ancestral house of the painter Juan Luna, the revolutionary general Antonio Luna, and the violinist Manuel Luna. Built in the typical middle-class fashion, the house was burned down in 1861 and was rebuilt using clay bricks and molave wood. Now a museum, the shrine houses photos of the Luna family and reproductions of Luna's paintings. The second floor retains the living room, bedrooms, azotea, and chapel, all furnished with period furniture and accessories.
• La Virgen Milagrosa Chapel, Badoc: a nice chapel by the sea
• Ilocos Norte - Ilocos Sur Border Arch
• St. Dominic Of Guzman Parish, Sto. Domingo
• My Vigan Home
• All the above have been visited before except the last two. La Virgen Milagrosa De Badoc was visited which was upgraded into a Basilica Minore.

Visit to Luzon’s Northermost tips from Santa Ana, Cagayan at the eastern seaboard to Aparri, Cagayan at the center then in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte at the western seaboard done, it’s time to head back home.
This segment starts from Casa Consuelo in Pagudpud then to AH26 Southbound to Laoag, Ilocos Norte. This will be about 90+Km trip and since this is not the first time in this area, there is only a brief stopover in Pasuquin to get to taste the famous soft biscocho again.
Road condition along AH26 is good except those undergoing repairs or widening. Road is getting busier as well due to the increase of vehicles.
Did not take the new Laoag Bypass Road as the next segment will be Ilocos Norte Loop of Laoag-Sarrat-Piddig-Solsona-Dingras-San Nicolas.
Enjoy & have a safe trip!!!

AH-26 Maharlika Highway in Ilocos Sur Northbound from Tagudin to Sinait. Road condition is good though there are pockets of road & bridges repair along the way. The repairs in Santiago & Candon bridges resulted in long traffic primarily due to the absence of city/ town center bypass roads.
This trip is primarily for historical & religious purposes as well as to take time from work. Have finally visited Santa Maria Church.
Enjoy & have a safe trip everyone!!

Saint Dominic of Silos Parish Church, Calatagan, Batangas, Philippines, Philippines
Saint Dominic of Silos Parish Church, Calatagan, Batangas, Philippines
Calatagan, officially the Municipality of Calatagan (Filipino: Bayan ng Calatagan), is a municipality in the province of Batangas in the Calabarzon (Region IV-A) of the Philippines. The population was 56,449 at the 2015 census. In the 2016 electoral roll, it had 31,030 registered voters.
Calatagan comprises the Calatagan Peninsula between the South China Sea and Balayan Bay. The peninsula's near white sand beaches are well-known vacation and leisure sites. There are several beach resorts including the Banak House Calatagan on Calatagan beach, the Ronco Beach Resort in barangay Bagong Silang, Playa Calatagan in barangay Santa Ana, the Golden Sunset Resort in barangay Uno, Lago de Oro Resort in barangay Balibago, Villa Agustina in barangay Bagong Silang, and Nacua Sea Park in barangay Quilitisan. Calatagan was formerly titled as the Forbes Park of the South, because of the rich families who own estates here.
An extremely rare example of pre-Spanish Philippine script was found in Calatagan. The script is called Baybayin in Tagalog, and was derived from Javanese writing, which in turn is derived from Brahmi. This writing survived on an earthenware burial jar dated to the 13th or 14th century. A Spanish lighthouse can also be found at Cape Santiago at the peninsula's southern tip dating back to the 1890s and is also one of the municipality's main tourist attractions.
