Travel Russia - Visiting the Cathedral on Blood in Yekaterinburg
Take a tour of Cathedral on Blood Yekaterinburg in Yekaterinburg, Russian Federation -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The Cathedral on Blood in Yekaterinburg is not a typical Russian Orthodox church.
This was the site of Tsar Nicholas the II's last moments before being killed during the Bolshevik Revolution.
The church was built over what was formerly the Ipatiev house, where the Tsar and his family were kept before the assassinations.
Therefore, the Cathedral is an imperative part of Russia's gruesome political history.
The golden domes of the Cathedral are standard for this architectural style.
The natural allure of the surrounding Ural mountains provide visitors another motive to visit this crucial monument.

Take a tour of Historic Yaroslavl in Yaroslavl, Russia -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Follow the Volga and Kotorosl Rivers to where they meet, and you will find the historic city of Yaroslavl.
This Russian city has been an economic power since the 11th century, and served as the country's de facto capital in the 17th century.
The medieval churches of Yaroslavl are typically Russian Orthodox in style and persuasion.
In 1763, Catherine the Great ordered a radical makeover of the town that would serve as a model for urban planning across the country.
Yaroslavl today is the result of this urban program, and is thus a beautiful example of Western cultural exchange and influence.
The city's neoclassical style, impressive monuments and historical importance all contribute to its UNESCO World Heritage designation.

The terminal's key feature is its tall spire, nearly 235 feet tall.
It also has four statues built around the tower, one for each of the cardinal directions.
Located right on the water, the Sochi Maritime Terminal is a key landmark for the city.

Alexei Korzukhin Paintings!
Alexey Ivanovich Korzukhin (Russian: Алексей Иванович Корзухин; 23 March 1835, Perm Governorate — 30 October 1894, Saint Petersburg) was a Russian genre painter.
He was born into a family of gold prospectors near Yekaterinburg. As a young man, he worked in a local railway factory and the mint. He had started painting when he was still a child so, in 1858, he entered the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts where he studied under Pyotr Basin and Fyodor Bruni. In 1861, he was awarded a gold medal and a stipend for travelling expenses. However, in 1863, he became a member of the Revolt of the Fourteen, a group of students who favored Realism and were protesting the Academy's insistence on painting in the Classical style. He and the others withdrew from the Academy, accepting the designation of Artist Second-Class. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Artel of Artists, an artistic commune, and remained with them until they disbanded in 1871. He also became a member of the Association of Travelling Art Exhibitions (Peredvizhniki) and taught drawing at the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts.
In 1865, his painting Wake in the Village Cemetery earned him the rank of Artist First-Class and, three years later, he was named an Academician. In addition to his paintings of daily life, he did portraits and religious works. These include icons and depictions of the Four Fathers of the Church at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour; wall paintings at the Ascension Cathedral in Yelets; and thirteen images for the narthex of Nativity Cathedral, Riga. He also exhibited widely, including the Second Annual International Exhibition in London (1872), the Weltausstellung in Vienna (1873) and the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia (1876).
He was a witness to the assassination of Tsar Alexander II in 1881. This resulted in severe nervous shock and he never fully recovered his health.

Tech company unveils innovations
BLUE ASH, Ohio (Angenette Levy) -- Ten years ago, Mahendra Vora started Vora Ventures Group with one company and seven employees. Today, the technology group has nearly 14 companies and 2,100 employees. The company has operated quietly until now. Thursday night, May 28, the company hosted a demonstration of its products. We always felt like we were done but not enough. So we were more shy than we should be in a marketing business. But we felt like now we have enough to start sharing with the world and specifically Cincinnati, said company owner Mahendra Vora. Vora Ventures has a program that projects an image on a wall and challenges you to out jump LeBron James. It's designed to be used on a wall inside a store. By touching the wall, you can see if you can jump higher than King James. There are also kiosks for grocery stores that are stocked with 170,000 recipes. Other kiosks will tailor deals to your tastes by downloading your profile using the signal from a smart phone. When the phone gets within range of the beacon, it sends my name or my user ID up to a cloud. The cloud will look at who I am and what my profile is and it will update all of the nearby technology. So it will send an offer to my phone that's relevant to me, said Chief Technology Officer Rick Schramm. One of the products that the company Open Commerce has developed is a virtual reality tour. It allows a company to take a virtual tour inside a building to help design the layout of a business. Vora Ventures bought the old Champion Paper complex in Hamilton. It houses office space and a massive data center. Information for high end programs is stored there and can be downloaded on an average computer. Mahendra Vora believes the technology his company is producing will make people lives easier. He also believes his company is good for the region. It's not about Vora. It's about Cincinnati. I want to let people know that we can do innovative stuff here. Our kids can get some high-tech jobs here. Our parents can feel like there's stuff happening, that their kids can stay here. And I take tremendous pride in that, Vora said. Follow Angenette Levy on Twitter @angenette5, and LIKE her on Facebook.Follow us on Twitter @Local12 and LIKE us on Facebook for updates!
Monreale Cathedral, Monreale, Palermo, Sicily, Italy, Europe
The Cathedral of Monreale is a church in Monreale, Metropolitan City of Palermo, Sicily, southern Italy. One of the greatest existent examples of Norman architecture, it was begun in 1174 by William II of Sicily. In 1182 the church, dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, was, by a bull of Pope Lucius III, elevated to the rank of a metropolitan cathedral. Since 2015 it is part of the Arab-Norman Palermo and the Cathedral Churches of Cefalù and Monreale UNESCO Heritage site. The church is a national monument of Italy and one of the most important attractions of Sicily. Its size is 102 meters long and 40 meters wide. According to a legend, William II of Sicily fell asleep under a carob tree while hunting in the woods near Monreale. The Holy Virgin appeared to him in dream, suggesting him to build a church here. After removing the tree, a treasure was found in its roots, whose golden coins were used to finance the construction. It is more likely that the church was part of a plan of large constructions in competition with the then bishop of Palermo, Walter Ophamil, who had ordered the large Cathedral of Palermo. The construction of Monreale, started in 1172, was approved by Pope Alexander III with a bull on 30 December 1174. Works, including an annexed abbey, were completed only in 1267 and the church consecrated at the presence of Pope Clement IV. In 1178 Pope Lucius III established the archdiocese of Monreale and the abbey church was elevated to the rank of cathedral. The arcbishops obtained by the kings of Sicily a wide array of privileges and lands in the whole Italian peninsula. In 1270 Louis IX, King of France, brother of King Charles I of Naples, was buried here. In 1547-1569 a portico was added to the northern side, designed by Giovanni Domenico Gagini and Fazio Gagini, in Renaissance style, covered by a cross vault and featuring eleven round arches supported by Corinthian columns. In 1559 most of the internal pavement was added.
