Coca-Cola Field - 1
Coca-Cola Field (formerly Dunn Tire Park, North AmeriCare Park, Downtown Ballpark and Pilot Field) is a 17,600-seat baseball park in Buffalo, New York that hosted its first regular season baseball game on April 14, 1988, as the tenants of the facility, the Buffalo Bisons, defeated the Denver Zephyrs, 1–0.
HOK Sport (now known as Populous) designed the park as one of the first retro-classic ballparks. This concept featured classic and distinctive architecture, a grass, baseball-specific design, and a location within the downtown core. The same firm would bring this concept to the major leagues four years later with Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
At the time of the stadium's construction, Buffalo was hoping to get either an expansion Major League Baseball team or a relocated team; Buffalo was one of the five finalists in the early 1990s National League expansion process, which led to the 1993 debuts of the Colorado Rockies and Florida Marlins. The ballpark was built with a seating capacity of 19,500 people, which makes it the third largest stadium in minor league baseball. The design allows for future expansion to accommodate a major league team: capacity could be increased to nearly 40,000 by double-decking the existing mezzanine.
In the first season the Bisons played at the stadium, the team shattered the previous minor-league attendance record, as many Buffalonians and visitors traveled downtown to enjoy the amenities offered by the new facility, which replaced the old War Memorial Stadium as the Bisons' home. In this first season, the Bisons outdrew a number of Major League teams.
After several years as Pilot Field, there was a dispute involving the naming rights to the stadium following Pilot Air Freight's defaulting on naming rights payments. For part of a season, the stadium was known locally simply as the Downtown Ballpark. In July 1995, however, another company stepped in and acquired the naming rights, and the stadium became known as North AmeriCare Park. The stadium maintained this moniker for only a few years, however. Prior to the start of the 1999 season, Dunn Tire, a local chain of retail tire outlets, became the naming rights holder for the stadium, thus the name Dunn Tire Park. On December 17, 2008, the Buffalo News reported that a new naming deal has been reached with Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Buffalo, with the stadium renamed as Coca-Cola Field for the 2009 season.
With the Omaha Royals moving out of Rosenblatt Stadium after the 2011 season, Coca-Cola Field is the highest-capacity minor league baseball stadium in the United States.
On November 6, 2015, a 120-foot light pole from left field, fell, and blocked Oak Street, which is behind Coca-Cola Field. The pole came crashing down around 11:15 a.m., due to high winds and rain at the time. No one was hurt in the incident.
Before the baseball field was built, the corner of Swan and Washington was the site of Ellsworth Statler's first hotel, Statler Hotel.[12] It was later called the Hotel Buffalo after Statler built a new Statler Hotel on Niagara Square in 1923 and sold this one. Before the Statler Hotel here was St. John's Episcopal Church built from 1846–1848 on land donated by Joseph Ellicott, remained in use until 1893 and finally demolished 1906.
In 2011, the Buffalo Bisons added a new state of the art video screen. The screen is the largest high-definition LED video display in all of Minor League Baseball.
Along with the new video board, a new lighting system was added for Coca-Cola Field. The new lighting system at Coca-Cola Field cost over $970,000 and contains fewer bulbs and emits more light.
For the 2014 season, $500,000 was spent in improvements to Coca-Cola Field. These improvements included a new sound system to replace the dated version that had been in house since the ballpark's 1988 opening and the installation of new LED message boards on the facing of the club level down both baselines.
On August 22, 2014, it was announced that the stadium would get new seats for the 2015 season, replacing 3,700 original seats from the ballpark's 1988 opening. The new seats were installed during the offseason, and these seats are for specially reserved sections. The seating capacity dropped from 18,025 to 17,600.
On August 22, 2016, the second phase of new seating project was announced to take place over the offseason. Seats in sections 115-122 are being replaced with seats identical to those that were installed during Phase 1. This renovation dropped the capacity of the stadium to 16,907.
Coca-Cola Field is served by the Seneca station on the Buffalo Metro Rail.

Stadiums are not only known for hosting sporting events and concerts, they’re also a fertile breeding ground for cutting edge fast food ideas. Chicken wings, pizza, and nachos were once the top choices when it came to stadium cuisine. But in recent years, there’s been a subtle shift away from the cut and dry. As the most popular thunder domes have shown, there are many ways to pull hard earned cash from the sports watching crowds than just ticket sales. It’s time to get in line for the top 10 best stadium foods in America.

SUMMARIES:
- Killing the crowd with sugar is the main idea when taking in a game at Buffalo's New Era Field. That's why it offers the fearsome deep-fried peanut butter & jelly, funnel cakes, apple pies, and corn dogs. For the sweet-tooth in the crowd, these fast food ideas are certainly a stroke of genius.
- A long time ago, the main reason large crowds would gather in a stadium was to see gladiators spill blood for sport. Nowadays, we still have blood sports like kickboxing, boxing, and MMA.
- NRG Stadium will never be the same since the Houston Texans' introduction of the Battle Red Tacos. Tradition is thrown out the window and taste buds come alive with these tacos that fans just can’t get enough of.
- When you hear pinstripes the first thing that comes to most peoples minds are the New York Yankees, or I guess a nice tailored suit if you’re not into baseball. Anyways, Ruth, DiMaggio, Jackson, Jeter, the names are as legendary as the franchise itself and this high-end milkshake is trying to live up to its name.
- Tired of burgers and hot dogs and looking for something different to munch on during the game? Then try Levy Restaurant's Very Vegan Tacos for a change, available at TD Place home to the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League.
- Leave it to the fine people of Chicago to come up with a way of turning the common hot dog into a monster of a hot dog. This relatively new addition to the Soldier Field concessions has quickly become a crowd favorite.
- While Soldier Field has stacked everything high on top of their hot dog, kudos to the Washington Redskins for taking the lowly hot dog and reinventing it into a foot-long incarnation.
- Yes, there's light at the end of the stadium fast food tunnel after you've tasted the best hot dog that life has to offer. For starters, there's the famed TsUNAmi Burger at Dignity Health Sports Park, formerly the StubHub Center on the campus of California State University.
- Washington's FedExField should be credited for thinking outside the box when it comes to reinventing stadium fast food. Where do they get all these crazy ideas? First, a hot dog to end all hot dogs.
- Healthy tacos, burritos, burgers, hot dogs, and sweet stuff: these are definitely the new peanuts and Cracker Jack of the stadium going, crowd. For those who can't be bothered with the mundane when it comes to their sporting event chow, pizza and chicken wings are definitely out at this point.

How it all Began
Welcome to Crystal Beach…a refreshing state of mind inspired by the legendary amusement park once nestled on the shores of Lake Erie above the roar of the mighty Niagara Falls. Original Loganberry, created by the Davis family, PJ, Carolyn, Johnny and Jady was inspired by another local favorite. Derived from the loganberry, a unique cross between ripe and tasty blackberries and raspberries, this secret recipe was once only sold at PJ’s famous barbecue restaurant in Saratoga Springs, NY. Crystal Beach Original and Diet Loganberry are now available in bottles for all to enjoy.
Owners PJ and Carolyn grew up drinking the flavor that became one of their favorite childhood pastimes. They graduated from high school, got married, went to college, and became school teachers. The couple then moved to Saratoga Springs, New York, and 23 years ago opened their restaurant, PJ’s Bar-B-Q, recognized as one of the top 8 barbecue restaurants in the United States by CITY MAGAZINE, a national publication.
Being from Buffalo, the Davis’ wanted to sell popular Buffalo items in their restaurant, such as Buffalo Wings, Kummelweck Sandwiches, Sahlen’s Hot Dogs, and Loganberry! Loganberry became so popular that it was outselling the major leading cola brands also offered at the restaurant. During the winter customers were asking where they could purchase Loganberry while the popular summer restaurant was closed. The Davis’ were then inspired to create PJ’s Crystal Beach Loganberry, a flavor now popular in all of NY State and expanding into new markets nationwide!

The Glass Makers
On October 6, 1886, a group of speculators drilling a well in Howard County discovered natural gas. Lighting it, the 20-foot flame could be seen for miles that night. The next eight exploratory wells in the area were successful. News of the significant gas discoveries traveled quickly, and it was estimated that the gas would last for 200 to 300 years. That proved to be incorrect, but Indiana’s legacy in glassmaking had been launched.
Firms such as the Indiana Glass Company, in Dunkirk, devoted its plant to the production of pressed and blown decorative glass. From a population of 491 in 1887, the city of Alexandria grew to more than 7,200 in 1900 because of the need for functional glass. The Harper and Cruzen Glass Factory, Lippincott Glass Chimney Co., DePauw Plate Glass Co., and the DePauw Window Glass Co. all developed factories there and needed workers.
And while Indiana’s glass fortunes expanded statewide – for example, the Root Glass Company designed and produced the original Coca-Cola bottles in Terre Haute – the glass brand that became a household name was Ball. In 1880, the five Ball brothers started the Wooden Jacket Can Company in Buffalo, New York, but the glass canning jar was the brothers’ focus when the renamed company relocated to Muncie to take advantage of the readily available natural gas. At its peak, Ball Brothers Glass Manufacturing Company produced 30 jars a minute in its five plants, with an additional 2,500 employees in its Muncie headquarters.
Today, Indiana’s highest-profile functional glassmaker is just outside Muncie, in Dunkirk. Ardagh Group was founded in Dublin in 1932 as the Irish Glass Bottle Company. It now operates in 26 countries, employs 22,000 people and controls approximately 50 percent of the North American glass container market. Not unlike the 1930s, when the volume of Ball jars produced in Muncie captured the world’s attention, today Ardagh’s Dunkirk operation produces three million longneck beer bottles DAILY for AB InBev, parent company of Budweiser.
INDIANA’S ART GLASS community was launched with that first gas well discovered northwest of Kokomo in 1886. Charles Edward Henry, a glass chemist, immigrated to the United States from France and formed Henry Art Glass in New Rochelle, New York in 1883. Henry Art Glass made glass buttons, novelties, and opalescent glass rods. While producing glass products, Henry met many glass artists in the New York area including Louis Tiffany. Hearing about the gas boom in Central Indiana and returning to New York from a business trip to Chicago, he stopped in Kokomo. On his second day in Kokomo, local officials provided Henry with a plant site and a natural gas supply.
He built a glass production plant with a seven-pot furnace, and production started at Opalescent Glass Works on November 13, 1888, and it has been in continuous operation at that location ever since. Most important to Indiana’s art glass history was the shipment three days later – on November 16, 1888, the first shipment of sheet glass went to Louis Tiffany. It included 600 pounds of blue and white opalescent glass.
Tiffany continued to be one of Henry’s customers, and in 1893 he purchased more than 10,000 pounds of glass from Opalescent Glass Works. Kokomo Opalescent Glass continues to be a source for restoration glass, and it still has, and mixes, many of the same “recipes” that established it as a premier glass manufacturer. Its Hot Glass Studio was established in 1998 to produce a wide range of quality hand-blown and hand-cast glass using its world-famous Kokomo Opalescent Glass. There, the company’s glass blowers create one-of-a-kind and limited edition functional and sculptural glass objects and rondels.
Building on that heritage are dozens of Indiana glass artists, some in business for decades in and around the former Trenton Gas Field in east central Indiana. Some, like the fourth-generation glassmakers at Zimmerman Art Glass, expand the state’s art glass community all the way to the Ohio River, in Corydon.
The Indiana Glass Trail links all of Indiana’s glassmakers, as well as the state’s glass-focused galleries, museums, exhibits, festivals, and workshops/classes, and this 11-minute documentary produced by Taylor University students travels that Trail.
