1:30pm Lunch
75 min.VeniceThere are several great places to eat between Piazza San Marco and your next stop (Ca' d'Oro). I recommend either the simple yet hearty and authentic fare at Osteria La Campana hidden in plain sight on the main drag (or, a bit out of the way, Trattoria Cea), or splashing out on lunch at the excellent Bistrot de Venise, many of its recipes from Renaissance-era Italian and French cookbooks.
If you prefer a quick, cheap bite, there are two excellent tavola calda joints selling hot, prepared foods near the Rialto Bridge: Rosticceria San Bartolomeo and Rosticceria Teatro Goldoni. » more

Take a few minutes to wander the stalls of the Rialto Market on the far (S. Polo) side, then thread your way south through the S. Polo district to the Scuola Grande di San Rocco.
(Note: If you're running ahead of schedule, along the way you can take 15–20 minutes to hit the church of I Frari with its art by Bellini, Donatello, and especially Titian, who is buried here.) » more

7:00pm Dinner
90 min.VeniceCongratulations. It's been a long day, stuffed with art and history. Time to celebrate by digging into a sumptuous meal—seafood, if that's your thing, because it certainly is Venice's.
Just remember: Venice is unlike the rest of Italy, where 7:30pm is considered an early dinner. In Venice, 7pm is about normal for starting dinner, and many restaurants shut their kitchens before 9pm (when, in southern parts of Italy, things are just getting going).
Visit Torcello, Murano and Burano—three islands in the Venetian Lagoon—on this tour from Venice by motorboat.

Art Trip: Venice Biennale | The Art Assignment | PBS Digital Studios
Behold the 2017 Venice Biennale. Called the olympics of the art world, the exhibition invades historic (and tourist clogged) Venice, Italy, every two years, and has since 1895. Contemporary art abounds, with installations and exhibitions occupying the city's Giardini and Arsenale, as well as art venues throughout the city. And yes, we ate plenty of gelato and rode in a gondola.

Shylock in Venice: Staging Shakespeare in the Ghetto
(Visit: Two landmark anniversaries coincide in 2016: the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death and the 500th anniversary of the establishment of the Jewish Ghetto of Venice, a place that would give its name to such segregated areas worldwide and serve as the historical backdrop for Shakespeare’s most controversial play, The Merchant of Venice. Shaul Bassi, associate professor of English Literature at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, reflects on the legacy of the Ghetto and the international effort now underway to stage The Merchant of Venice in Venice for the very first time in July, 2016. Recorded on 01/26/2016. Series: Herman P. and Sophia Taubman Endowed Symposia in Jewish Studies [6/2016] [Humanities] [Show ID: 30593]

Bassano del Grappa: the best place near Venice. Insider travel Tips & Experiences
Best 10 things to do in Bassano:
The best place near Venice is Bassano del Grappa: an Italian arts town located at the foothills of mount Grappa, in one of Italy's most developed and historically rich area between the Prosecco hills and Valdobbiadene and not far from Verona, Vicenza, Padua making Bassano del Grappa totally worth a visit.
Many international tourists are , in fact, increasingly choosing to visit Bassano and make it their stay of choice in exploring the best places nearby. Venice region including Possagno's Antonio Canova Museum and other attractions off the beaten path are in fact appreciated by visitors looking for a laid back holiday while staying in one of Italy's best towns . Bassano del Grappa offers much in terms of attractions, arts, history, but also dining and food experiences together with a vibrant nightlife making it perfect for travellers of all ages and preferences. In this video, an insider travel guide with some suggestions collected from locals on what not to miss during your visit.
Our travel guide showcases Bassano del Grappa bridge, crossing the Brenta river. Italy's oldest distillery Nardini serving vintage cocktails such as the famous mezzo e mezzo and some of Bassano's best restaurants, shops and nightlife hangouts. The famous Ezzelini castle, with its panoramic spots looking at the mountains and the best accommodation Relais nel Castello, where we rest before driving around looking for things to do near Bassano,
In Possagno we visit the Antonio Canova Museum (gypsothecoa) where chalk copies from the neoclassical sculptor are exposed and we finally proceed to the newly UNESCO World Heritage awarded Prosecco hills and Valdobbiadene, where the best prosecco wine is served in a mellow rural landscape.
Visiting Bassano del Grappa is a great idea for travellers looking for a stay around Venice, which can be visited in one day, while having the opportunity to travel and explore more of Italy's Northeast. If you have more recommendations, feel free to post them in the comments section!

Creating Cities of the Imagination - Lecture 1 - Venice
Fashioning the Myth of the Serenissima.
By choosing the day of the Annunciation as its founding date, Venice would forever associate itself with angels, the Virgin Mary and divine right, which has woven a spell that endures today.
Painters of its Renaissance Golden Age such as Veronese, Tintoretto, Carpaccio and Bellini added images of Venice as Venus and Victory. Although the Republic was in decadence by the 18th century, Canaletto and Guardi revived its legend in the veduta paintings which adorned the walls of English palaces and mansions.
