Monster Cobia
What a great day of fishing in Boca Grand Pass!
Rates and Reels Episode #7 With Ben Hemmen the COO/VP of the Fort Myers Miracle
Baseball, hot dogs, beer and fun. That is what I think of when I hear the The Minnesota Twins minor league affiliate in Fort Myers is the only minor league baseball team in Lee County and one great time.
The Miracle now have a new COO/VP named Ben Hemmen and I was lucky enough to have him as a guest on Episode 6 of Rates and Reels.
The day started off great when he hooked me up with a Miracle hat and peanuts. Score!
First fishing stop was a flat that was loaded with Trout. Ben and I both caught plenty of keepers and some undersized ones as well.
We then moved to a couple of spots around the mangroves to catch some snook. We got a few but no monsters.
Ben is from Kansas so this was his first time experiencing our SWFL waters and he loved it.
I got to interview him at Hammond Stadium during a Miracle game which was awesome. I love that place!
I was really impressed by Bens passion for baseball and his willingness to do the best he can at his new job.
We discussed his future for the Miracle, how he thinks the new coach will do and all the cool promotions that the Miracle have coming up. He seems excited about the upcoming promotion on August 26th called Recount Election night where the first 500 fans get a Russian Nesting Doll and everyone will get to vote again. Little known fact is that the Miracle fans have correctly picked the last 5 Presidential winners.
Ben is a great guy and I know he will do well at his new job. It was a pleasure getting to know him out on the water.
Make sure you get out there and catch a game or nine this season. It is a great time!
Hope you enjoy the show!

USA: HURRICANE FLOYD: PEOPLE LEAVE ATLANTIC COAST
English/Nat
Hurricane Floyd is pounding the northwestern Bahamas.
The storm has blasted trees from the ground, shredded power lines and stripped roofs from homes.
The U-S Eastern seaboard is expected to face the hurricane's fury next.
By the thousands, people are beating a retreat from Florida's Atlantic coast.
The latest forecast predicts the storm will spare South Florida the worst but come very close to central and northern Florida as it moves north.
Skies over Daytona Beach, on the coast of central Florida, were gray and the waves were choppy Tuesday afternoon.
Few people are lingering at the ocean.
Authorities have urged nearly two million people to evacuate coastal areas stretching from Florida to North Carolina.
As Hurricane Floyd bears down on Florida, the streets of many beach towns are virtually empty.
Residents and tourists are fleeing, leaving behind messages for the coming storm.
Traffic inland is bumper-to-bumper, as tens of thousands of people try to get out of Floyd's way.
Federal Emergency Management Agency Director James Lee Witt
says federal officials are as prepared as possible.
Witt says the storm is expected to hit land at the worst time possible- high tide.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
The contact of this hurricane for Florida, as well as the Carolinas, both land contact will be at high tide. That could mean a five to ten foot storm surge in Florida, on top of high tide. And also, if it continues on its path, up to 15 to 20 foot storm surge in Georgia and South Carolina at high tide. So, this is not only a dangerously high winds, but also the flood potential is very strong.
SUPER CAPTION: James Lee Witt, Federal Emergency Management Agency Director
Only a skeleton crew is left at NASA's Kennedy Space Centre.
NASA is trying to protect the four space shuttles, but they are housed in buildings not built to withstand winds like those Floyd is whipping up.
Fisherman trying to protect their boats are heading upriver, away from open water.
Theme parks in central Florida are also shutting down.
It is the first time in Walt Disney World's 26 years of operations that it has closed down because of a hurricane.
Forecasters still expect the storm to turn more to the northwest, eliminating the most serious threat to South Florida.
But it could come within 75 kilometres ( 50 miles ) of the Florida coast north of Cape Canaveral - or perhaps even make landfall in that area.
U-S Senator Connie Mack, who represents Florida, warned residents not to be lulled into a false sense of security.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
I guess my message would be to the people of the state of Florida. While there might be some sense, some relief maybe, at the idea that this not going to be a direct hit. If you look at the map and the way this is going to go up the coast, the potential damage is enormous. And so I would encourage people to listen to your local advisories with respect to evacuation.
SUPER CAPTION: Senator Connie Mack, Republican, Florida
The headline of the Miami Herald newspaper said what many residents are feeling - a Sense of Dread.
People trying to fly in or out of South Florida are out of luck.
After a few planes took off Tuesday morning, airlines cancelled virtually all flights to South Florida.
Floridians aren't the only ones watching for Floyd.
South Carolina has made its hurricane evacuation mandatory, as the storm keeps coming.
The coastal city of Savannah, Georgia, is under a mandatory evacuation order, too.
By early Thursday, the forecasters see Floyd striking around the Georgia-South Carolina border.
