Northern New Mexico Taos Ski Valley Arroyo Seco .722 acres Artist Studio for Sale
The SCUDDER HOUSE in Arroyo Seco, New Mexico, is being offered for sale. Named for the fine artist and Oklahoma native, Linda Scudder, it was used as her art studio from 2008 to 2012. This quaint hide-away, complete with stream, sits on .722 acres and is located half way between the Taos airport and the Taos Ski Valley. It is the perfect retreat for outdoor enthusiasts, artists, musicians, writers and educators in need of a haven, and is perfect for those weary souls in search of serenity, a place to rest, recharge, unwind, and leave the city far behind. For the skier, this historical adobe complex is on Highway 150, the Taos Ski Valley road, and is ideally suited for a quick drive up the mountain to experience world class ski accommodations.
A University of Tulsa alumni and art teacher at Claremore High, Linda was a devotee of artist Richard Schmid and her love of painting is evident in the many breathtaking examples of her work. Arroyo Seco locales as well as the pastoral scenery of her native northeastern Oklahoma inspired much of her work. She was happiest when painting in her studio, but took solace in sitting on her front porch listening to the breeze in the aspens lining the driveway down to the creek, or walking into Arroyo Seco to soak up the local bohemian atmosphere.
The SCUDDER HOUSE has a Saltillo tiled master bedroom featuring the puppy paw prints as seen in the master bedroom photo, a living room, kitchen, studio space and a bathroom off the kitchen. The casita has recently been upgraded to include new flooring, thermal windows, fresh paint, new water heater, new kitchen cabinets and counter tops, and an extended porch featuring latilla fencing and two swinging gates. Included in the sale are the following: refrigerator, microwave, wood burning stove, two hand crafted ceiling light fixtures, one hand crafted armoire seen in the master bedroom photo and the four patio chairs seen on the porch. An elderly couple shares a common wall and are available to serve as on-site caretakers. The compound itself is a 100 year old outpost that served as a border lookout for the Taos Pueblo Navajo Indian community. The authentic 18 inch thick adobe walls provide warmth in the winter and cool in the summer.
If you are searching for an affordable alternative to the Ski Valley, this charmer is perfect. Starry skies at night, hiking and biking trails, the famous 'Taos Cow' in Arroyo Seco, La Fonda on the Taos Plaza, the Taos Library, summer fruits and vegetables at the local farmers markets and the wonders of the artist’s enclave Arroyo Seco are just some of the marvels waiting to be enjoyed. The organic Cid’s food market, local’s favorite Michael’s Kitchen and the famous Doc Martin ‘Taos Inn’ are just down the road. State of the art Hospital facilities are located in Taos, as well as all the modern conveniences, should you need them.

Arroyo Seco Annual Fouth of July Parade 07.04.07
The annual Fourth of July Parade in Arroyo Seco is an event just about everyone looks forward to, especially folks with cameras. This year was no exception as floats, horses, and local revelers in costume made their ways from the old elementary school to Sabroso's restaurant, all in celebration of our nation. The event swells the population of the normally tiny village of Seco from a few hundred to well over a thousand. Plus, this event is certainly one that is flavored with a generous helping of northern New Mexican style.Video by Ella Romancito, edited by Rick Romancito
