Corpus Christi College, Oxford Quincentenary Ball 2017
On the 24th June 2017, Corpus Christi College held a ball to commemorate 500 years since the college was founded.
From the beginning of all Corpuscles careers at Corpus they have been told the story of the college animals; how they are the industrious bees working away in the library, under the watchful eye of the pelican. Corpus history is a positive menagerie of animals. The owls of Hugh Oldham embellish the crest, they boast the annual tortoise fair and their founder is Richard 'Foxe'. It seems only fitting, therefore, for us to include this in our celebrations of the quincentenary.

Corpus Christi College is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.Founded in 1517, it is the 12th oldest college in Oxford, with a financial endowment of £112.6m as of 2015.The college, situated on Merton Street between Merton College and Oriel College, is one of the smallest in Oxford by student population, having around 230 undergraduates and 120 graduates.It is academic by Oxford standards, averaging in the top half of the university's informal ranking system, the Norrington Table, in recent years, and coming second in 2009–10.

Oxford known worldwide as the home of the University of Oxford, the oldest university in the English-speaking world. Buildings in Oxford demonstrate notable examples of every English architectural period since the late Saxon period. Oxford is known as the city of dreaming spires, a term coined by poet Matthew Arnold. Oxford has a broad economic base. Its industries include motor manufacturing, education, publishing and a large number of information technology and science-based businesses, some being academic offshoots.
ACEE Highlight Seminar - Steven Cowley, Corpus Christie College, Oxford University
Steven Cowley, president of Corpus Christi College, Oxford University, will speak on the topic of “Driving Down the Cost and Scale of Fusion Energy” as part of the 2016-2017 Highlight Seminar Series at the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment at Princeton University.
ABSTRACT
The ITER fusion experiment in France is the flagship of the world’s fusion programme. I will describe ITER’s aim to produce the first controlled fusion burn and the prospects of achieving this goal. While ITER remains an important step, commercial fusion power requires innovation in both physics and technology. I will discuss prospects to reduce the cost and scale of fusion devices and the advantages of more compact configurations.
BIO
On October 1, 2016, Steven Cowley became the 31st president of Corpus Christi College, the first scientist to hold the post. He has a lifelong interest in realizing fusion power – perhaps the ultimate energy source.
His other research interests include: the origin of magnetic fields in the universe, and explosive events in astrophysical and laboratory plasmas.
After reading physics at Corpus from 1978 to 1981, he won a Harkness Fellowship for study in the U.S. From 1981 to 1985, he was a graduate student in Astrophysical Sciences at Princeton University, where he studied the theory of fusion plasmas. He was awarded a Charlotte Elizabeth Proctor Fellowship from Princeton in 1984. Returning to the UK in 1985, he worked at the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority’s (UKAEA) Culham laboratory and taught at Corpus. He taught physics from 1987 to 1993 at Princeton, from 1993 to 2008 at UCLA, and from 2001 to 2016 at Imperial College. In 2008, he became the director of UKAEA’s Culham laboratory and from 2009 to 2016 the Chief Executive of UKAEA. He is an author of over 170 refereed articles. The Institute of Physics awarded him the Glazebrook Medal in 2012, and in 2014 he was made a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering. Since 2011, he has been a member of the Prime Minister’s Council of Science and Technology.

Graduating from the University of Oxford! (Graduation and England Travel Vlog)
I finally graduated from the University of Oxford in May 2019, although I finished my degree in June of 2018. I graduated with an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice and I wrote my dissertation on police responses to Honour-Based Violence. I originally made this video to share the experience with family and friends, but I've had so many people asking me about the experience, I thought I would share it with you as well. Since I live in Toronto, I travelled to England with my dad and sister for my graduation ceremony, so this is both the travel and graduation vlog.

For the graduation ceremony, there's very particular things you have to wear, say, and do. The first half of the day is spent in your college (mine was St. Catherine's College) and the second half is in University buildings, in particular the Sheldonian Theatre, where many ceremonies happen.
