Summer in Gunnison-Crested Butte, Colorado
Summertime in Gunnison-Crested Butte is the perfect Colorado vacation destination for everyone. Colorado's Western Heritage is all around you in Gunnison, a true ranching town. Home to Western State College of Colorado, visitors will find the young, old timers and families welcoming them with their own brand of western hospitality. Hiking, biking and picnic areas abound at Hartman Rocks Recreation Area and Curecanti National Recreation Area as well as in Crested Butte, Mt. Crested Butte and the beautiful Crystal River Valley around the old mining town of Marble, not to mention the beautiful Gunnison National Forest. World-class fishing and boating are defined on Blue Mesa Reservoir, Colorado's largest lake and on the many rivers in Gunnison County including the Gunnison River, East River, Taylor River and Crystal River and on Taylor Reservoir, the centerpiece of endless vistas at Taylor Park near the wicked little town of Tin Cup as legend tells it! Or, visit Marble and take a side trip to the Crystal Mill, one of Colorado's most photographed historic mill sites (a high clearance 4-wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended to go to the mill).
If soft adventure is your goal, no worries...shopping, museums, art centers and galleries and a variety of dining options along with health, wellness and spa services abound. And, on weekends visit the Gunnison Valley Observatory, Colorado's largest public access research quality telescope and take in our clear and classified stable skies for a once-in-a-lifetime experience! ABOUT US
Welcome to Grand Adventure, a YouTube channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, nearly always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and our dogs Zoe and Maggie are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. Instead, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. And unlike most other RV channels on YouTube, we're not RV dealers or full-timers -- we're weekend warriors just like you!
We'll provide tips and insight on equipping and maintaining your RV, trip planning and travel videos to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

Ep. 100: Canyons of the Ancients | National Monument Colorado RV travel camping
Our big 100th episode of Grand Adventure was supposed to be about both Canyons of the Ancients AND Hovenweep National Monuments, but our RV had other ideas. While camping at Mancos State Park, and en route to another camp at Bears Ears National Monument in Utah, we visit the Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum, tour the Lowry Pueblo ruins that date to the 10th Century, and hike to more ruins in the National Monument's Sand Canyon before our RV left us on the side of the road.

SUMMARY
=======
Colorado ( (listen), other variants) is a state of the Western United States encompassing most of the southern Rocky Mountains as well as the northeastern portion of the Colorado Plateau and the western edge of the Great Plains. It is the 8th largest geographically and 21st most populous U.S. state. The estimated population of Colorado was 5,607,154 on July 1, 2017, an increase of 11.49% since the 2010 United States Census.The state was named for the Colorado River, which early Spanish explorers named the Río Colorado for the ruddy silt the river carried from the mountains. The Territory of Colorado was organized on February 28, 1861, and on August 1, 1876, U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant signed Proclamation 230 admitting Colorado to the Union as the 38th state. Colorado is nicknamed the Centennial State because it became a state one century after the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence.
Colorado is bordered by Wyoming to the north, Nebraska to the northeast, Kansas to the east, Oklahoma to the southeast, New Mexico to the south, Utah to the west, and touches Arizona to the southwest at the Four Corners. Colorado is noted for its vivid landscape of mountains, forests, high plains, mesas, canyons, plateaus, rivers, and desert lands. Colorado is part of the western and southwestern United States, and is one of the Mountain States.
Denver is the capital and most populous city of Colorado. Residents of the state are known as Coloradans, although the antiquated term Coloradoan is occasionally used.Unlike its neighbors to the north, west and east, Colorado has been recognized as a strongly socially liberal state. Same-sex marriage in Colorado has been legal since 2014, and it was the second state in the U.S. (after Washington) to legalize recreational cannabis. The state is known for its progressive views on abortion and assisted suicide; Coloradans rejected a 2008 referendum that would have criminalized abortion, and approved a measure in 2016 that legalized assisted suicide in the state, and remains one of six states (along with the District of Columbia) to have legalized assisted suicide. In 2018, Colorado became the first state in the United States to elect an openly gay governor, Jared Polis, in the 2018 gubernatorial election.
Ghost town
A ghost town is an abandoned village, town or city, usually one which contains substantial visible remains. A town often becomes a ghost town because the economic activity that supported it has failed, or due to natural or human-caused disasters such as floods, government actions, uncontrolled lawlessness, war, or nuclear disasters. The term can sometimes refer to cities, towns, and neighborhoods which are still populated, but significantly less so than in years past; for example those affected by high levels of unemployment and dereliction.
Some ghost towns, especially those that preserve period-specific architecture, have become tourist attractions. Some examples are Bannack, Montana; Calico, California; Centralia, Pennsylvania; and Oatman, Arizona in the United States; Barkerville, British Columbia in Canada; Craco in Italy; Elizabeth Bay and Kolmanskop in Namibia; and Pripyat in Ukraine. Visiting, writing about, and photographing ghost towns is a minor industry. A recent modern-day example is Ōkuma, Fukushima, which was abandoned due to the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami incident.
