History of Opatija
One of the popular nicknames for Opatija is cradle of tourism. The first holiday house in Opatija, the Villa Angiolina was built by Iginio Scarpa in 1844. That year is regarded as the beginning of tourism in town since the Villa Angiolina hosted many famous historical figures including the Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria - Hungary, the Empress Maria Anna and the Croatian Ban Josip Jelačić.

Opatija offers a wide range of well-equipped beaches for children and adults that have everything you could wish for. Rijeka is the biggest city of the northern Adriatic Sea and is also the largest Croatian port. With a number of interesting museums and galleries, we visited a very interesting museum of old computers. On the hill above Rijeka there is the biggest sanctuary in Croatia - Trsat. Near Rijeka there is Kastav, a small medieval town that is well maintained to this day.

Opatija, what to see.
Opatija is a Croatian coastal town on the Adriatic Sea. A fashionable resort in the 19th century, it's dotted with Habsburg-era villas. The Lungomare is a promenade that snakes along the coastline, offering views of the town and neighboring islands. The 1800s Villa Angiolina, set in a garden of exotic plants, houses the Croatian Museum of Tourism. Parts of St. Jacob’s Church date from the 16th century.
Croatian city plans to turn former Yugoslav President Tito's yacht into museum
The Croatian port city of Rijeka has announced its plans to convert a yacht used by Yugoslavia's communist leader Josip Broz Tito into a floating museum.
Now in disrepair, the 117-metre ship Galeb was an iconic symbol of luxury used by Tito from the 1950s until his death in 1980 to entertain world leaders and celebrities on their visits to Yugoslavia.
Vojko Obersnel, Mayor of Rijeka:
First of all, I have to say that the ship Galeb is listed as protected cultural heritage of Croatia. It is a ship which has a long and interesting history, not only in the period when it was used by Josip Broz Tito, and it certainly has a certain cultural value but also, of course, a material value.
Tito's historic role remains controversial in Croatia, where he is still regarded as a polarising figure, seen by some as nothing more than a communist dictator and by others as a great leader and visionary.
Vojko Obersnel, Mayor of Rijeka:
It is not my intention to pass judgement on positive or negative traits [on Tito] - although I do have my personal opinion about that. But we could discuss any historic person that way. Was Napoleon a positive or a negative person? The French, Russians and Austrians probably have differing opinions about that, but fact is that Napoleon is a historic person and that his life, his tomb, and everything related to him in Paris is a tourist attraction. Here, the memories are still fresh, divisions along ideological lines still strong, but when we talk about a project such as this, those divisions should be overcome.
Because of the divisions, the city of Rijeka announced plans to apply for European Union funding to restore the ship and turn it into a floating museum dedicated to diplomacy.
Tito met with both Winston Churchill and the young Queen Elisabeth II on board the ship.
In the meantime, the Galeb waits to see how its destiny would unfold, only a shell of its former self, a survivor and witness of some of the worst the turmoil of the 20th century.

Plitvice Lakes national park is by far one of the most beautiful national parks in the world. With its emerald green and milky blue lakes, and its myriad of majestic waterfalls, this place can leave anyone mesmerized for years on end. I still think about the emotions and sensations I felt when first entering this park. What's better is that Plitvice Lakes is very well set up for both tourists as well as for more seasoned hikers; there are a plentiful of signage and carved paths, all very easy to follow.
The summer of 2019 is the last summer before my high school friends and I part ways for College. This is our last opportunity to make a bang, and we sure as hell did. This video is part of our great Europe trip which begins in Milan and ends in Dubrovnik, Croatia: make sure to follow us along since the very beginning.
