Cafe Cats of Amsterdam - Plus a Cat Cafe & a Cat Boat
New Amsterdam Travel Video- Amsterdam loves cats! And dogs too! They really treat their pets like people here and it's not unusual to find cats lounging around inside shops, bars & cafes. Amsterdammers like things gezellig (cozy & homey) and nothing is more gezellig than having a pet around. Besides, cats are an excellent way to handle any mice problems. If you're a cat lover, then join Elysia from Young in Amsterdam and Thrillist and her friend Hjalti (both cat owners themselves) and meet some of the most famous felines in the city. Do you love cats too? Do you like the idea of them hanging out in cafes in bars or do you find it a bit strange? Please let us know in the comments section below. Thank you to all the cafe cats and their owners for their help and a special thank you to Mokum Magazine for their article on cafe cats which inspired us to make this video.( Photo collage for our title card by Hjalti Hjalmarsson
UPDATE: Sadly, Elvis from the Getto Bar & Restaurant has passed away. He had a long 18 or 19 year life and is now chasing mice up in the sky!

Amsterdam De Poezenboot / The Catboat: het Help lied NL
Help!

Amsterdam De Poezenboot / The Catboat: kittens
De Poezenboot Amsterdam’s Cat Boat - Around The World
A city with over one hundred kilometers of canals, it’s no surprise that Amsterdam is full of houseboats. However, one such boat in the historic Herengracht district is hiding something peculiar inside. On any given day it’s home to about 50 felines!
No, this isn’t a hoarding nightmare gone wrong. The cat boat, or “de poezenboot” in Dutch, is the world’s only floating cat sanctuary.
A cat shelter on land is nothing to write home about, every major city has one or two. One on water, however, is a different story.

Amsterdam CAT Museum & CAT Boat
As Cats the Musical comes to Amsterdam next month for some reason? I look at the crazy cats of Amsterdam. My friends used to know me as the cat hater and so with a quest to look at what the feline fiends have to offer us in the city? An alternative look at the city of Amsterdam's cat culture on the historic canal ring.
A visit to the Cat Cabinet ( Katten Kabinet ) a strange cat museum, and then the pussy boat ( Poezenboot ), a cat rescue houseboat which is quite sweet, on the canals of Amsterdam. Want to explore with me?
I make niche local films for niche people on niche subjects. With tongue in cheek (Meaning I have a dry sarcastic humor and don't hate anything except Peanut Butter and Banana breath smells).
I hope you enjoy.

A day or two in Amsterdam. Street cats, cool buildings, and plenty of canals!
Visited Amsterdam for a few days on a business trip a few days ago. A fantastic experience, as expected. Business aspect went well (had the great honor of meeting the team behind the most awesome music site on the planet), and the few days I spent floating around Amsterdam's center were great as well. Now off to Krakow, Poland for a week, before returning to home (meaning, to Risa). :) Been missing her from the moment I left a few days ago.

About Us: I'm PJ. My partner, inspiration, trainer, chef, and moral compass, Risa, are what we (reluctantly) refer to as, digital nomads. I say, reluctantly, as I've been living the digital nomad lifestyle for about 15 years now (long before the term was coined, and became the cheesy trend it is today. It seems that everyone these days on vacation with a laptop, a pina colada next to them, Avicii on their headphones, and a dozen memory sticks filled with selfies now considers themselves a (don't forget the hashtag) digital nomad.
I started out at age 19.
I quit my job at the time, to focus on the then still relatively unknown arbitrage business model as applied on eBay. Long story short, I saw an opportunity, invested all I had in it (time + money) and by my early 20s, I no longer had any interest in returning to Canada (where I grew up). I bounced mostly around Asia, for many years (all the usual nomad hotspots: Thailand, Vietnam, S. Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, with a preference for Japan (lived all over Japan, from Tokyo, to the most remote Japanese islands in the Pacific). In late 2013, one of my returns to Tokyo, I met a captivating young woman, Risa, who helped me to re-calibrate my high-flyin', rock-star lifestyle and regain focus. Within a few months of meeting, she elected to quit her job in Tokyo and joined me on this nomadic journey.
This channel, will document our perpetual traveller lifestyle. It's not always easy, it's not always fun. There are highs and lows. Sometimes money is very tight, other times it seems like it's the least of our worries. But when done right, the digital nomad lifestyle is a journey unlike any other.
Over the last few years, we generally stay off the beaten path and instead venture into areas seldom spoken about in digital nomad circles. You won't see us visiting Bali, Saigon, or Bangkok. Been there, got the SIM card, and still feel a bit hungover. As we travel, we focus on personal growth, on disconnecting, unlearning, and thus thriving. We attempt to engage in philanthropy when we can. We respect the cultures kind enough to allow us to visit their land and their homes. Feel free to send us feedback, comments, suggestions.
Thank you for taking an interest in our journey. More videos of exotic places, stories, and people, will be uploaded weekly. As a demonstration of my gratitude to you for taking an interest in us, I will continue improving the quality of the content I create for you on a regular basis.

The Cat Boat | Amsterdam City Guide by Made of Journeys
Have you ever heard of a house (on water) owned by cats where humans are only guests? Take a look at this video to meet Judith and the Poezenboot.
Blog:
Amsterdam could not keep our interest down, not even for a minute. When we thought that those picturesque canals, lively brownish colors all around and very nice people were the handful of admirable things about the city, it threw a cat boat on us.
The Catboat is a Floating Cat Shelter – a sanctuary for cats on a canal. As cats and water never seemed make up for a great combination, we wanted to see with our own eyes how they live, what's their daily routine and how they are looked after. On the top of that, we wanted meet the people who work with these buddies.

Gezellige, soms beetje onzeker, erg lieve kater van 7 jaar. Hij is veel katten gewend, dus we plaatsen hem met of bij een katten-maatje. En die heeft hij gevonden.
Nice cuddly male, 7 years young. Use to a lot of cats, so we re-home him with a cat-friend. Or at a home with already a friendly cat. And we found a loving home for him.
