De Rotterdam Film
'De Rotterdam' will be the newest eye-catcher in the glorious port of The Netherlands. The building is designed as an entire city within the city: three transparent towers standing 150 metres tall on a pedestal of cafés, restaurants, a hotel, fitness and with magnificent entrances. 'De Rotterdam', designed by Rem Koolhaas (OMA), is under construction at the Wilhelmina Pier, the new Manhattan on the river Maas.
Rotterdam, Netherlands in 4K (UHD)
Rotterdam is the second largest city in The Netherlands and it is a major port city in the Dutch province of South Holland. Most of the city's architecture is bold, modern and completely reconstructed since the majority of the city was leveled during World War II. The oldest origins of Rotterdam (de Stadsdriehoek or City Triangle) were bombed away, but that large quarters there around survived the war.

Rem Koolhaas speaks about his De Rotterdam tower
See more architecture and design movies on Dezeen:
In this exclusive interview, Rem Koolhaas tells Dezeen why the colossal new De Rotterdam tower is the most visible OMA skyscraper yet. Nobody will be able to avoid seeing it, he says.
Located on the south bank of Rotterdam's Maas river, De Rotterdam is a 150-metre structure where overlapping glazed towers accommodate apartments, offices and a hotel. It is only the fourth high-rise that OMA has completed, even though the firm has developed designs for dozens over the years.
This is on a site where nobody will be able to avoid seeing the entire building, says Koolhaas, comparing the project with the Rothschild Bank Headquarters in London and CCTV Headquarters in Beijing, both of which are located within a dense cityscape. It has a superb location on the river that can be only approached on one bridge, so we could really predict how it will be perceived, he said.

Holland America's MS Rotterdam Cruise Ship Tour 2017 - Holland America Line
English Captions Available!!!
MS Rotterdam is a Rotterdam-class cruise ship, the 6th Holland America Line vessel to hold up under the name, and is one of the two Atlantic leads of the armada. Worked in Italy in 1997, Rotterdam includes artistic work and collectibles, a web focus, and a spa and wellness focus. She is named for SS Rotterdam of 1959, and furthermore named after the city of Rotterdam, Netherlands. MS Rotterdam and her sister dispatch MS Amsterdam are approximately in light of the first ship. Amsterdam and Rotterdam are co-leaders of Holland America Line (HAL).
Rotterdam conveys a craftsmanship accumulation locally available worth over US$2 million.
Amid the late spring of 2011, Rotterdam directed Holland America Line's first independent transoceanic intersection since 1971, making a solitary excursion both eastward and westward. In the Fall of 2014, Rotterdam circumnavigated South Africa for 88 days. From Nov. 12 to Dec. 20, 2014, the last section of the journey went from Cape Town, South Africa to Southampton, England. The ports of call were: Cape Town, Lüderitz and Walvis Bay in Namibia, Luanda in Angola, two islands in Cape Verde, three islands in the Canary Islands, Agadir, Casablanca and Tangier in Morocco, at that point on to Cádiz and Vigo in Spain, and Lisbon, Portugal.
Rotterdam cruises around Europe amid the late spring and South America in the winter. Beginning in 2012, she was based year-round in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Holland America said it needed to reconnect with its foundations there.

What To Do In Rotterdam, The Netherlands
This video is a city guide and city tour of Rotterdam. You'll see my top 5 highlights of one of the most modern cities in Europe.
Above all, Rotterdam is a city with vision. It was very nearly completely destroyed during World War II and chose to see the devastating loss as an opportunity to innovate and build anew. The city was a blank slate for architects and artists. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes of war, this Dutch city has become a city of the future. Rotterdam is a centre for design, art, architecture, and sustainability. Locals joke that you should take a photo of the skyline today because it won't be the same tomorrow.
The Floating Forest is a great symbol of all that Rotterdam cultivates and inspires. It's an art installation of twenty live trees floating in the harbour. Rotterdam has the largest harbour in Europe and you can't talk about the city without reference to the water. The trees are recycled from the city's 'tree bank.' With all the new construction, trees are sometimes cut down in the march of progress. Now, instead of being chopped, they are moved to a tree bank for further use and enjoyment. The trees float in recycled sea buoys that are filled with fresh water to sustain the trees. The artist, Jorge Bakker, hopes the public art will get people talking about the relationship between the city dweller and nature. In this time of climate change and urbanization, this is relevant not only to Rotterdam but the entire world.
The Erasmus Bridge - Erasmusbrug, in Dutch - is the graceful link between northern and southern Rotterdam. Locals adore this steel-cabled suspension bridge and lovingly refer to it as 'the swan.'
Nearby the bridge, and across from the Fenix Food Factory, is Hotel New York. This is the former head office of the Holland America Line - the first shipping and passenger ship connecting the Netherlands and the United States. It was also the first connection between the two continents.
The newest architectural gem of Rotterdam is the Market Hall (Markthal). It's the first covered market in the Netherlands and is a masterful example of innovative multi-use space. Inside you'll find food vendors, shops, restaurants, parking for 1200 cars and over 200 residential apartments. The exterior is plain grey stone so as to draw attention to the interior which is dominated by the massive painting on the ceiling. Covering 11,000 square metres, it's the largest painting in the world and is known as the Sistine Chapel of Rotterdam.
Just across from the Markthal are the world-famous, iconic cube houses. Conceived and designed in the 1970s to solve the dilemma of housing above a pedestrian bridge, these atypical homes show, again, how Rotterdam answers limitation with innovation. The cube houses are meant to represent an abstract forest and are tilted at an angle that gives excellent views of the surrounding area. Ironically, however, because of the slanted walls and ceilings, only a quarter of the interior space is actually usable.
Looking around, it's easy to see why Rotterdam feels futuristic and is leading the way for green living and modern design. Have you visited Rotterdam? I'd love to hear your impressions so please leave a comment down below.

Rotterdam, The Netherlands - A Tour Of The Dutch City
A tour of the Dutch city of #Rotterdam with our guide Hassan Hidare from Rotterdam pages.
???????? Where we stayed in Rotterdam -
Rotterdam, South Holland in the Netherlands is only 25 minutes by train from Schiphol Airport and really easy to reach.
Unlike Amsterdam, the port city of Rotterdam was almost completely destroyed by Luftwaffe bombing during World War II. During the post war reconstruction Rotterdam became known for its groundbreaking architecture.
These building include the 1970’s cube houses designed by architect Piet Blom and the Pauluskerk. One of the old building which survived the war was the Witte Huis or ‘White House’ built in 1898 and was one Europe’s first skyscraper.
As well as the architecture, you can get great food from one of the 100 stalls at the impressive Markthal and you must visit some of the bars on the popular Witte de Withstraat.
So instead of just staying in Amsterdam when visiting the Netherlands you must take a trip to the far less crowded Rotterdam

Dave Markey's review:
9-1-91
Rotterdam, Holland - Day 2 of this fest starts with another call from Keith. We hit the local hash bar for a space cake breakfast. Hard to believe tonight is the last show of this tour, it's been great fun. Hung out with Nick Cave, a really nice gentleman who bought me a beer. Thurston introduced us, and mentioned Desperate Teenage Lovedolls, and Mr. Cave said it sounded great. The festival is held in a big indoor multi-hall convention center-type place, with many bands playing simultaneously. Nirvana we're getting really tanked-up backstage, and Chris tells me Kurt is flying on mushrooms. I film Kim doing the band's make up. Courtney Love enters the room, with Billy Corgan {Smashing Pumpkins were playing too} and introduces him to everyone. I think everyone was vastly underwhelmed. After they leave, Kurt scrawls on the wall in magic marker; Courtney + Gish and smiled incessantly. Nirvana go on and just about drive me to tears. They were fucking up too, but fucking up gloriously. I film most of the set, loading the cartridges non-stop. I was even calling out songs from stage right. Hey Kurt, play In Bloom! {They haven't played that song on this tour 'til tonight.} At the end, Kurt goes into distructo mode, and won't stop, until he is accosted by bouncers. Alex soon puts a stop to it.

Comments from a trader on dimeadozen:
Comments from dime users:
I think the Nirvana set from this festival is a raw and nice performance, just before the mainstream and thus the beggining of the end...
At the festival Nirvana weren't allowed to play on the main stage. The Smashing Pumkins were. Nirvana got (childishsly) mad and destroyed the complete backline (which was not theirs but the PA Rental Service's ) When they tried to demolish the huge sound stacks on the front of house, they were taken off the stage. Needless to say they didn't get paid !
A journalist who spoke with Nirvana that day said:
I mainly spoke with Cobain, the other two went to the Doelen to check it out. On their return they were moaning about the small hall they would have to play, while a band like the Smashing Pumpkins was on the main stage. This arose a wayward atmosphere.
It really did, Nirvana completely trashed the stage.
The show ends in chaos. In the book Come As You Are Michael Azzerad described the situation as following: For the last show of the tour, in Rotterdam, the group got drunk. Near the end of the show Krist climbed on the PA tower with his trouser on his ankles and a bottle in his hand. Security runs on stage and pulls him down, while Kurt was smashing up everything around him. One of the security guys lashes out to Krist, which started a dispute. Krist got removed from the hall, but came back and started fighting the promoter.
Willem Venema, that same promoter, tells another story. I was warned before the show by my stage manager that they would start throwing with their amps and drum kit. They did that every night, part of the show. I told their tour manager that I would intervene when they would take our stuff, PA and microphones, for the simple reason that there was another band after them. At the end of the show Krist gets up the PA and made a start throwing the speakers down the stage.I walked up to him and pulled him off the PA by his belt. On which Kurt started to interfere , telling me not to touch his buddy. They acted like they were very drunk.

The s.s. Rotterdam, being the last and biggest flagship ever built in The Netherlands and also the most prestigious one, is an important closure of Dutch maritime history.
