Historisch Delfshaven is een pittoresk deel van Rotterdam dat net smeekt om ontdekt te worden. Historic Delfshaven is a picturesque area of Rotterdam that just begs to be explored. Once part of Delft, Delfshaven has a grand history and is famous for its association with the Pilgrim Fathers. In search of religious freedom, these Puritans fled England and spent years in Delfshaven before continuing their journeys to North America, where they were the first colonists in what would later become New England.

Zowel in Amerika, Engeland als in Nederland wordt de herdenking van 400 jaar Pilgrimfathers in 2020 voorbereid. In Nederland gebeurt dat in Leiden, waar de Pilgrimfathers 11 jaar woonden, en in Delfshaven, waaruit zij vertrokken.
The commemoration of 400 years of Pilgrimfathers in 2020 is being prepared in America, England and the Netherlands. In the Netherlands this happens in Leiden, where the Pilgrimfathers lived for 11 years, and in Delfshaven, from which they left.
Historic Delfshaven Rotterdam - Dutch Grandparent's WW2 Story
After Rotterdam had been bombed not much was left of their historic city center. Luckily a breathtaking small part of the big city Rotterdam is still intact, Historical Delfshaven. Delfshaven locals once earned their living by fishing for herring and distilling gin. The Pilgrim Fathers left Delfshaven to the new world, and their church still remains. I also share with you some stories about my grandparents who lived through World War 2.

Rotterdam-Delfshaven has a great history. The district, located on the west side of town, enjoys international fame because it is part of the Pilgrim Fathers story.
Delfshaven is a nostalgic place with plenty of canals, historic buildings and courtyards. A wonderful place for a perfect walk, abike ride and a Pilgrim beer.

Het was een zonnige en fijne zaterdag, die 10e september 2011.
Ik stapte op (of is het in?) mijn scootmobiel en begon aan een rondje Delfshaven.
Op het terras van Café De Oude Sluis nam ik mijn eerste drankje en later nog twee, waarvan eentje aangeboden, bij Jos Gommers op de hoek van Voorhaven en Tussenwater. Het was op het Gommers-terras bijzonder gezellig; dank aan Jos, Anita, Jeroen en vele anderen. Soms vergeet een mens, zittend tussen en bij Rotterdammers, dat hij zelf 'oud, ziek en gehandicapped' is.

New Amsterdam Travel Video- We like taking you to other places in The Netherlands outside of Amsterdam. Rotterdam is a world-class city with so much to see and do. So much so, we had to limit this episode to just the harbor areas of the city. Luckily our hosts, Rich from Holland Photography Tours lives there and Sander was born there. So they are the perfect guides for a great day. Delfshaven still has Old World charm that contrasts most of the city's modern, sleek architecture. This quaint harbor is known as the starting point for the Pilgrim Fathers making their way to America. Leuvehaven is home to the Maritime Museum with different kinds of ships moored outside for you to discover and explore. Katendrecht is a hip, renovated area centered around the Fenix Food Factory. Hotel New York will take you back to the early 1900s when the Holland America Line shipped immigrants to the New World. Everything is easy to get to with an efficient tram and metro system and the speedy water taxis will give you a thrilling ride. We're already planning our next Rotterdam visit and episode!

Tovertunnel Delfshaven Rotterdam, Holland
My name is Willij Vanderlinden/Female artist from Rotterdam/Holland.
made the Tovertunnel especially for my little son and other children that were scared to pass the tunnel because of the hobo's that were sleeping there and the containers filled with restaurant trash.
Thats not how I wanted to live, so I start putting the idea of the Tovertunnel in the local newspapers, where the meeting tigers picked it up en started to raise money.
Deelgemeente Delfshaven was one of the worst areas those days, thats why they got a lot of money from EU in Brussels. And they started with ART.
My art.Our ART. Because my son helped me to design at 7 years of age.Thats the best example to show him that if you want something, you can make dreams come true.
Every 2 years I change the whole design into something new .
Only if children ask me to keep something of the old design because they love that part.I am very fond of using old tags into new art.

Rotterdam is a major port city in the Dutch province of South Holland. The Maritime Museum's vintage ships and exhibits trace the city's seafaring history. The 17th-century Delfshaven neighborhood is home to canalside shopping and Pilgrim Fathers Church, where pilgrims worshiped before sailing to America. After being almost completely reconstructed following WWII, the city is now known for bold, modern architecture.
A little info about Walking Around Rotterdam Market Hall.:
The Markthal (English: Market Hall) is a residential and office building with a market hall underneath, located in Rotterdam.The building was opened on October 1, 2014, by Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. Besides the large market hall, the complex houses 228 apartments, 4600 m2 retail space, 1600 m2 horeca and an underground 4-storey parking garage with a capacity of 1200+ cars.
The Markthal was designed by architectural firm MVRDV. The grey nature stone building has an archwise structure like a horseshoe. The building has a glass facade on both sides, these are made up of smaller glass windows. The smaller windows are mostly squared and around 1485 millimeters wide. All of these are hung around a structure of steel cables, 34 metres high and 42 metres wide, which makes it the largest glass-window cable structure in Europe. Each facade has 26 vertical and 22 horizontal cables. The facade was designed and installed by Octatube.
A little info about walking around the Rotterdam Cube Houses:
Cube houses (Dutch: Kubuswoningen) are a set of innovative houses built in Rotterdam and Helmond in the Netherlands, designed by architect Piet Blom and based on the concept of living as an urban roof: high density housing with sufficient space on the ground level, since its main purpose is to optimise the space inside. Blom tilted the cube of a conventional house 45 degrees, and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. His design represents a village within a city, where each house represents a tree, and all the houses together, a forest. The central idea of the cube houses around the world is mainly optimizing the space, as a house, to a better distribution of the rooms inside.
Three test versions were first constructed in 1974, and in 1977 18 houses were constructed in Helmond. The many houses required for a woonwoud (English: living woods) were never realized. The houses in Rotterdam were designed in 1977 in a plan of 55, of which 39 were built. The cube houses in Helmond surrounded a theater, Theater 't Speelhuis, which was destroyed by a large fire on 29 December 2011.
