Baggage claim conveyor belt at arrivals, T3 IGI Airport, Delhi
Walking out through Customs and into the arrivals lounge, at Delhi airport.
The sea of humanity that greets one on arrival in India! Those waiting for their guests and car drivers picking up their clients... The madness of India assaults one on arrival, with visitors and cars vying for hall and curb space to receive and pick up arriving passengers.
Indira Gandhi International Airport is the primary international airport of the National Capital Region of Delhi, India, situated in Palam, 15 km (9.3 mi) south-west of the New Delhi railway station and 16 km (9.9 mi) from New Delhi city centre. Named after Indira Gandhi, a former Prime Minister of India, it is the busiest airport in India. With the commencement of operations at the new Terminal 3, it became India's and South Asia's largest aviation hub, with a current capacity of handling more than 46 million passengers. IGIA along with Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, together handle more than half of the aircraft movements in South Asia. The airport's operator, Delhi International Airport Private Limited (DIAL), is looking to make the airport the next international transit hub.
Spread over an area of 6,300 acres (2,500 ha) of land, Delhi airport serves as the primary civilian aviation hub for the National Capital Region of India. It was previously operated by the Indian Air Force before its management was transferred to the Airports Authority of India. In May 2006, the management of the airport was passed over to Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), a consortium led by the GMR Group.
In 2011–12, the airport handled 35.88 million passengers and the planned expansion program will increase its capacity to handle 100 million passengers by 2030. The new Terminal 3 building has had the capacity to handle an additional 34 million passengers annually since the start of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Terminal 3 is the world's 8th largest passenger terminal. In September 2008, the airport inaugurated a 4,430 m (14,530 ft) runway. In 2010, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) was conferred the fourth best airport award in the world in the 15–25 million category, and Best Improved Airport in the Asia-Pacific Region by Airports Council International. In years 2012,2013 and 2014, the IGIA was ranked the second-best airport in the world in the 25–40 million passengers category, again by Airports Council International. Also in 2011 (the last year that full statistics from ACI are available), the airport was the 34th busiest in the world with 34,729,467 passengers handled, registering a 17.8% growth in traffic over the previous year. The airport uses an advanced system called Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) to help keep takeoffs and landings timely and predictable.

AIR INDIA EMPLOYEE MISBEHAVES WITH PASSENGERS STUCK AT DELHI AIRPORT.
This happened to me on 27/4/19. I had a reservation from Chandigarh to Tirupati. When I reached the Chandigarh Airport, I was informed that due server inactivity I had to wait till 11 for the 7 am flight. No body was ready to share details and we were told that all our problems will be resolved once we reached Delhi.
Upon arrival at the Delhi airport we were taken aback to see thousands of passengers were stuck at the airport and Air India employees did nothing to help them. Instead they were rude were treating pregnant women, senior citizens, tourists, people with international flights like cattle. I was supposed to reach Tirupati at 1.30 pm, whereas I reached Hyderabad at 9 Pm and they cancelled my flight and issued a refund telling me this all they can do.
I spent another 20000/- rs to find a hotel and a flight to Tirupati.

50 years of flying: Indian Airlines plane landing at IGI Airport, Delhi, around 2003
A viewer tells us that this is an Airbus A320 with double bogie.
This Indian airplane sports a 50 years of flying decal to celebrate 50 years of the airlines flying in or around 2003. This was pointed out to us by viewer Roy Skaria. Thanks, Roy!
Indian, formerly Indian Airlines (Indian Airlines Limited from 1993 and Indian Airlines Corporation from 1953 to 1993) was a major Indian airline based in Delhi and focused primarily on domestic routes, along with several international services to neighbouring countries in Asia. It was state-owned, and was administered by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. It was one of the two flag carriers of India, the other being Air India. The airline officially merged into Air India on 27 February 2011. On 7 December 2005, the airline was rebranded as Indian for advertising purposes as a part of a program to revamp its image in preparation for an initial public offering (IPO). The airline operated closely with Air India, India's national carrier. Alliance Air, a fully owned subsidiary of Indian, was renamed Air India Regional.
In 2007, the Government of India announced that Indian would be merged into Air India. As part of the merger process, a new company called the National Aviation Company of India Limited (now called Air India Limited) was established, into which both Air India (along with Air India Express) and Indian (along with Alliance Air) would be merged. Once the merger was completed, the airline - called Air India - would continue to be headquartered in Mumbai and would have a fleet of over 130 aircraft.
Indira Gandhi International Airport is the primary international airport of the National Capital Region of Delhi, India, situated in South West Delhi,16 kilometres (9.9 mi) south west of New Delhi city centre. Named after Indira Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India, it is the busiest airport in India. With the commencement of operations at the new Terminal 3, Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport has become India's and South Asia's largest and one of the most important aviation hub, with a current capacity of handling more than 46 million passengers and aimed at handling more than 100 million passengers by 2030. The airport's operator, Delhi International Airport Private Limited (DIAL), is looking to make the airport the next international transit hub.
Spread over an area of 5,220 acres (2,110 ha) of land with two parallel runways and a near-parallel runway, Delhi airport serves as the primary civilian aviation hub for the National Capital Region of India. It was previously operated by the Indian Air Force until its management was transferred to the Airport Authority of India. Terminal 3 is the world's 8th largest passenger terminal. In 2010, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) was conferred the fourth best airport award in the world in the 15--25 million category, and Best Improved Airport in the Asia-Pacific Region by Airport Council International. In 2011, the IGIA was ranked the second-best airport in the world in the 25-40 million passengers category, again by Airport Council International. Also in 2011, the airport was the 34th busiest in the world passengers registering a 17.8% growth in traffic over the previous year.
The old airport terminal is now known as Terminal 1 and handles domestic flights for all budget airlines. The terminal is divided into three separate terminals - 1A (for domestic flights of state owned Air India, MDLR and GoAir), 1B (was used by other domestic airlines, now closed and demolished), the Domestic Arrival Terminal (1C) and the newly constructed 1D (now used by all remaining domestic airlines). There is also a separate Technical Area for VVIP passengers. Additionally, there is a separate terminal for Hajj flights. Opened in 2010, Terminal 3, a state-of-the-art and integrated future terminal, is the 24th largest building in the world and 8th largest passenger terminal. It occupies an area of 540,000 m2 (5,800,000 sq ft), with a capacity to handle 36 million passengers annually.

An Istanbul-bound Turkish Airlines flight from Bangkok with 148 passengers onboard landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport under full emergency conditions due to a bomb scare.
The plane, an Airbus 330, landed safely at 1341 hours today, taken to an isolation bay, sources said, adding it appears to be a hoax.
The pilot was informed of a message written with lipstick on the mirror of one of the plane's washrooms that there was a bomb in the cargo hold of the aircraft, leading the pilot to seek Nagpur ATC's permission to land the aircraft there. He directed the pilot to approach the Delhi ATC, the sources said.
Following this, the aircraft was diverted to Delhi and where it landed at 1341 hours, they added.
However, no explosives were found on the plane. All passengers have been evacuated safely.
Minister of state for civil aviation Mahesh Sharma said NSG and bomb disposal squad were pressed into service. No explosive was found inside the cabin. The cargo portion is being checked, he said, adding the process may take about three hours.
He said the entire area was cordoned off and the fire brigade was alerted.
