Exploring an abandoned building we saw along Highway US Route 66 this July 2015. Amazing buildings. One of my favorite things to do on the trip to see the history and how the buildings were beautiful and built so well.

This one-hour Nine Network Special taps into the social, natural and cultural changes in Missouri River communities over more than two centuries. The film, inspired by the book, Growing Up with the River: Nine Generations on the Missouri, tells the compelling story of how the Missouri River Valley has influenced the country and the world.

From the contributions of German immigrants in the Civil War to the fledgling wine industry and the long-lasting implications of the area’s industrial efforts during World War II, this one-hour Nine Network special looks at the historical significance of this special region.

Actress and comedian Ellie Kemper introduces the film by welcoming viewers to her hometown, which was filmed near the Gateway Arch. Kemper comments on the many “a-ha!” moments in the book that even locals might not know.

Rivertowns is beautifully filmed and includes spectacular drone footage and original illustrations from the book by Missouri-based painter, Bryan Haynes.
