The Tourist Coconut Scam in Ho Chi Minh | Indochina Travel: Discover Vietnam
We were on our way to Ben Thanh when this coconut vendor approached us and helped us cross the street. His acting skills were so smooth that we didn't even get disappointed! What an experience!

Sai Gon / Ho Chi Minh City Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Sai Gon/ Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
Saigon, an exotic trading post of bygone times, derived its name from the banks of the river upon which it is located. In 1859, the French arrived and transformed it into the capital of French colonial Indochina. With nearly 6 million inhabitants, Saigon is also known as Ho Chi Minh City and, although large, is no longer the capital of Vietnam.
Following the eventual withdrawal of both the French and the Americans, the city has prospered once again with a lively trading spirit and a special flair that has helped it to become known as, The Paris of the East.
The Post Office, a mighty colonial building of 1883, highlights the splendor of old Europe and with its colorful glass windows, cast iron gratings and balustrades, it is more like a European train station.
The History Museum was built in 1929 according to Neo-Vietnamese design and features a large range of fascinating exhibits from each epoch of the country's history. Statues, pottery and other artifacts of various epochs are on display in various atmospheric rooms and they range from the Bronze Age culture of the Dong Son to the Funan, Chenla, Khmer and Cham periods as well as various Vietnamese dynasties.
Although past, present and future live side-by-side in this richly cosmopolitan city, today Saigon is experiencing a massive property boom and its city centre premiums now match those of both Singapore and Jakarta.
Saigon's dramatic past began with it being a small fishing village followed by its development as the 'Paris of the East' and then as an American garrison city until it eventually became South Vietnam's modern metropolis of today.

Discover trip to the cultural and culinary heart of Indochina
Here you’ll find everything you’ll need to know before taking a trip to the cultural and culinary heart of south-east Asia. Soak up the charming atmosphere of Luang Prabang. Have a cup of Vietnamese coffee in Ho Chi Minh city whilst getting a new wardrobe from a tailor or discover Cambodia’s modern history in Phnom Penh.
1, What is Indochina?
Indochina refers to three countries, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. This trio’s cultural and historical connections are centuries-old, but have more recently been rooted in French colonialism.
2, Can you visit all three countries on one trip?
If you have three weeks to spare, it would certainly be possible to see the highlights of all three countries. One big bonus about Indochina is that it is easy to get around, with numerous flight options should the journey by road be too difficult.
If you have only two weeks, there are two possible approaches. Either just focus on Vietnam with its wide range of historic fishing towns, fine hotels and beautiful beaches.
Or for a more culture-rich experience, head first for the Golden Triangle in northern Thailand before boarding an overnight cruise on the Mekong River to Luang Prabang in Laos, then fly to Siem Reap in Cambodia to explore Angkor Wat.
3, Where can you relax?
The South China Sea on Vietnam’s coastline is full of fabulous beaches and exclusive resorts.
The private island escape of Song Saa on Cambodia’s south coast works well with a trip to Luang Prabang and Siem Reap.
4, How easy is it to fly to Indochina?
The easiest way is ti fly to Bangkok with Thai Airways, which then has good onward connections to all the main destinations. Vietnam Airlines also has direct flights to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, if you wish to visit just Vietnam.
5, Can you go river cruising?
Yes and this is highly recommended. Take a trip of varying duration on the Mekong aboard Pandaw or Heritage Line’s Jahan and Jayavarman. Although not strictly a cruise, an overnight stay on a traditional junk in Halong Bay is a fantastic experience.
6, Can you do self-drive?
You can, but we don’t advise it. we recommend our clients travel with a private guide/driver. This is safer, good value for money and more rewarding.
7, What’s the food like?
So good you’ll want to join one of the many cookery classes available!
8, Is there much wildlife to see?
This isn’t a part of the world famous for its wildlife, but birding can be good in some of the national parks.
9, When to go?
March is the single best month for exploring Indochina, you’ll miss the rains in central and south Vietnam, and it shouldn’t be too cold in the north. Generally, weather should be good from November to March.

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) (Vietnamese: Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh pronunciation (help·info) ) is the largest city in Vietnam. It was known as Prey Nokor (Khmer: ) before being annexed by the Vietnamese in the 17th century. Under the name Saigon (Vietnamese: Sài Gòn; pronunciation (help·info)), it was the capital of the French colony of Cochinchina and later of the independent state of South Vietnam from 1954 to 1975. In 1976, Saigon merged with the surrounding province of Gia Định and was officially renamed Hồ Chí Minh City (although the name Sài Gòn - formally known as District 1 - is still commonly used.)[2]
The city center is situated on the banks of the Saigon River, 60 kilometers (37 mi) from the South China Sea[3] and 1,760 kilometers (1,094 mi) south of Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam.
The metropolitan area, which consists of Hồ Chí Minh City metro area, Thủ Dầu Một, Di An, Bien Hoa and surrounding towns, is populated by more than 9 million people,[4] making it the most populous metropolitan area[5] in Vietnam and Indochina. The Greater Ho Chi Minh City Metropolitan Area, a metropolitan area covering most part of Dong Nam Bo plus Tien Giang and Long An provinces under planning will have an area of 30,000 square kilometers with a population of 20 million inhabitants by 2020.[6]
Ho Chi Minh City began as a small fishing village known as Prey Nokor. The area that the city now occupies was originally swampland, and was inhabited by Khmer people for centuries before the arrival of the Vietnamese. It should be noted that in Khmer folklore that Southern Vietnam was given to the Vietnamese government as a dowry for the marriage of a Vietnamese princess to a Khmer prince in order to stop constant invasions and pillaging of Khmer villages.

Backpacking Indochina - Thailand, Laos, Cambodia & Vietnam / Southeast Asia Cross Country Travel
For 9 days, we crossed multiple cities, garnered precious stamps, got awed at beautiful temples and ate so much streetfood! From Manila, we flew to Bangkok, Thailand, partied at Khaosan Road and visited The Grand Palace, took a sleeper train to Laos, stayed in Vientiane for 6 hours, took another sleeper train back to Bangkok, rode a cheap open air train to the border of Cambodia, played Temple Run inside Angkor Wat, slept in a cramped sleeper bus to Vietnam for 16 hours without a toilet, ate a good and bad Pho, had the best coffee of my life in Ho Chi Minh, got scammed, then finally, flew back to Manila!
I'll be posting the complete itinerary and damage here soon!
