Viking Oceans: Discover Dubrovnik
Learn more:
Croatia's crystal clear waters have attracted sailors from around the world for centuries. But the coast is also known for an impeccable gem, the pearl of the Adriatic - Dubrovnik, a remarkable, medieval walled city. In the old city, where cars are not allowed, life is simple and goes on pretty much as it always has. Dubrovnik is a UNESCO world heritage site and it is easy to see why. The ancient fortress walls are four to six meters thick and as high as 27 meters. One place you should not miss is the still active Franciscan Monastery where surprisingly you can find the oldest operating pharmacy in Europe!
Dubrovnik City Guide - Croatia - Travel & Discover
The name Dubrovnik of the Adriatic city is first recorded in the Charter of Ban Kulin (1189). It is mostly explained as dubron, a Celtic name for water (Gaulish dubron, Irish dobar, Welsh dubr/dwfr, Cornish dofer), akin to the toponyms Douvres, Dover, and Tauber.

Overflowing with fans of Game of Thrones (Ivana more than most), we walked the never ending walls of old town Dubrovnik. Exploring Kings Landing we grabbed an ice cream and cooled off at Onofrios Fountain. Hungry from the heat we refuelled at Gils restaurant before scaling the steps of shame recreating the steps of Ivana's favourite characters. Taking the cable car up Mount Srd we rounded off our day by watching the incoming Croatian storm.
Come walk with us as we discover Dubrovnik in a day.
Dubrovnik Historic Town Gate to Gate - ???????? Croatia - 4K Virtual Tour
A late warm summer walk in Dubrovnik, Croatia from the East-Gate to the West-Gate. Click here ▶ to see highlights and guide.
The 'Pearl of the Adriatic', situated on the Dalmatian coast, became an important Mediterranean sea power from the 13th century onwards. Although severely damaged by an earthquake in 1667, Dubrovnik managed to preserve its beautiful Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains. Damaged again in the 1990s by armed conflict, it is now the focus of a major restoration programme coordinated by UNESCO.
Even after these disrupting life events the city recovered to an excellent historic state. Old Town and its many sights (including the well-preserved city walls along which you can walk) is one of the top attractions here. The Old Town is also famous for both of the entrance gates, St. Blaise, or Jesuit Staircase from the Game of Thrones series, seen in this walking video!

Dubrovnik (Croatia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Dubrovnik in Croatia.
Within the southernmost archipelago of Dalmatia is one of the most fascinating harbour cities of the young republic of Croatia, Dubrovnik, a breathtaking Mediterranean city with a great history. The city of stone had its heyday in the Middle Ages and was one of the most important economic and cultural centres in the Mediterranean. An ancient courtyard gate leads to the Old Town and to Luža Square, the city’s main square that contains a fine clock tower and splendid palace Loggia. The sixteenth century Sponza Palace consists of a combination of designs, including both Gothic and Renaissance, and once contained the Customs House and Mint. Despite much foreign rule, the city largely succeeded in being autonomous. Velika Gospa Cathedral was built between 1672 and 1713 on the ruins of a Romanesque basilica. According to legend, Richard The Lionheart was shipwrecked in the city on his return from the Third Crusade and his financial donation made it possible to build the city’s first church. From the thirteenth century the city was fortified with powerful walls that now rank among the largest, and also the most beautiful, in the whole of Europe. Dubrovnik is, amazingly, still a storybook city with all the flair of the Middle Ages. A treasure trove of history and undisputed Pearl Of The Adriatic.
