Best Whale Watching Cape Cod - Dolphin Fleet Review & Pilgrim Monument
Friendly Review of Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch Provincetown and the Pilgrim Monument and Pilgrim Museum in Provincetown. We visited Cape Cod Massachusetts in July 2017 and wanted to go on a whale watch. The Dolphin Fleet is well priced and has a lot of departure times. We saw a lot of whales (9 in total) diving, spy hopping, lob tailing, spout breathing, and a lot of breaching (chin breaching, and whole whales jumping out of the water). The was the best whale watch tour that we could have asked for. (with the exception of seeing a bubble net, but I won't complain) I hope your experience is as good as ours was.

Whale Watching in Cape Cod
RV living has brought us to Plymouth for some Whale Watching around Cape Cod. We were planning to see the Mayflower replica and Plymouth Plantation, but the Mayflower was being restored and Plymouth Plantation isn't that different from Jamestown (which we had just seen). After exploring Plymouth and Plymouth Rock, we returned for a Whale Watching cruise around Cape Cod.
It was amazing! If you even get a chance to go whale watching in Plymouth, we highly recommend that you do. We saw dozens of Humpback whales on the 3 hour Captain John Boat cruise.

Whale Watching - Cape Cod, MA
Provincetown, at the tip of Cape Cod, also berths several whale watching fleets who patrol the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. Most fleets guarantee a whale sighting (mostly humpback whale, fin whale, minke whale, sei whale, and critically endangered, the North Atlantic Right Whale), and one is the only federally certified operation qualified to rescue whales. Provincetown has also long been known as an art colony, attracting writers and artists. The town is home to the Cape's most attended art museum, the Provincetown Art Association and Museum. Many hotels and resorts are friendly to or cater to gay and lesbian tourists and it is known as a gay mecca in the summer.[

Baby Pilot Whale Circles Plymouth, MA Harbor (10-17-11)
PLYMOUTH —
No one is sure why, but one thing is certain: This young pilot whale is in distress.
Harbormaster Chad Hunter eyed the scene before him soberly Monday, as his staff monitored the situation from a motorboat and motioned boaters to keep clear of the 8- to 10-foot juvenile pilot whale swimming listlessly off the State Pier.
The fact that he's alone shows that he's been in distress for a long time, Hunter commented. I'd like to see him returned to a pod, but we'll see what happens.
Hunter said he'd been in close contact with New England Aquarium regarding a potential rescue of the whale, but these efforts don't begin until there is a stranding.
They recommend as long as he's free swimming to let him be, Hunter added. If he strands, New England Aquarium will come down with rescue and help. I think strandings have always been one of those unanswered questions. They usually travel in groups, or pods. It's not good to have him by himself.
The harbormaster's office has been monitoring the whale since Saturday (Oct. 15), he added, when staff at the Pilgrim Sands Hotel on Warren Avenue reported a sighting. At that time, the whale was 100 yards from shore and swimming closer and closer to the beach. Then, the whale changed direction and headed east. Yesterday (Sunday), residents reported spotting the whale near Nelson Park, Plymouth Beach, and off the coast by Cordage Park. At 10 a.m., Hunter said his office received a report of the whale swimming in waters off Stephens Field. Since then, Hunter and his staff have been doing everything they can to keep boating traffic away from the whale, to prevent it from being injured.
Pilot whales are extremely social and belong to the dolphin family; they are considered as intelligent and social as Bottlenose dolphins. Males and females tend to remain in their mother's pod -- an unusual trait among mammals. These whales are also notorious for stranding themselves on beaches. Experts theorize they may beach themselves due to electromagnetic confusion or out of despair when a major family member dies.
Three pilot whales stranded on Duxbury Beach last week, Hunter added, and two of the juveniles were saved and brought back out to sea. Is this whale in Plymouth Harbor one of these juveniles? Hunter couldn't say, but noted there have been a number of strandings in recent weeks.

In Pursuit of Whales: Part 1
In the waters off the coast of New England are marine sanctuaries that harbor the largest creatures on Earth today … the great whales. Hunted to near extinction by the early 20th century, many whale populations have rebounded since the advent of the Marine Mammal Protection Act in the United States. However, many remain endangered or threatened due to other human impacts, like entanglement in fishing gear, boat strikes, and pollution.
Once rarely seen by the average person, these graceful, majestic creatures can now be observed from coastal communities of the Atlantic and Pacific coasts by participating in whale watch trips with companies like Captain John Boats, operating out of Plymouth harbor in Massachusetts. In specially designed vessels, passengers can learn about the natural history of whales from trained and passionate naturalists and passively observe whale behaviors from the deck of the ship.
Join us as we talk to a seasoned naturalist to learn more about whales and the principles of responsible whale watching. We’ll go on a whale watching trip of our own, and try to capture these incredible species on camera in this adventure called “In Pursuit of Whales”.

Whales of Plymouth Mass.
While working in Mass., I decided to take a whale watching tour. Sorry about the poor video but in the rain my phone wouldn't cooperate all the time. We were about 25 miles out from Plymouth Harbor and saw about 15 whales in total. The song has no real name as of yet but is once again myself and Sonny Dietrich. I am on Bass and Mandolin and Sonny is on Guitar.
