Dominican Monastery in Dubrovnik
Mimo że dominikanie klasztor w Dubrowniku założyli już w 1225 r, to jego budowa zakończyła się dopiero w XIV wieku. Wtedy też, ze względów obronnych, kompleks został objęty murami miasta, stając się jego integralną częścią.
________
Construction of the Dominican Monastery in Dubrovnik began in 1225 and ended on the 14th century. Then the building was surrounded by the city's wall.
DOMINICAN MONASTERY EN
The Dominican order was established in Dubrovnik in the 13th century, and with the building of their monastery a century later, they became an important part of the city's defences. The monastery is at a strategic corner of the Old Town, vulnerable to attack from land and sea. From the outside it is fairly austere, but inside hides a jewel of a gothic and renaissance cloister, with a thick carpet in the centre. The interior of the monastery church is delightfully simple, with a wooden roof and some fine stone furniture. The Dominican monastery, like the Franciscan, holds an important library and collection of art including a painting of Dubrovnik before the great earthquake.

The Cloister of the Franciscan Monastery in Dubrovnik
The Romanesque cloister of the Franciscan Monastery is one of the finest features of Dubrovnik’s architecture.
This magnificent 14th-century creation of local sculptor Mihoje Brajkov consists of rows of elegant double-pillared columns encircling the Monastery’s inner courtyard.
Besides the similar one on Badija, also belonging to Franciscans, the cloister is considered as one of the most beautiful structures of that kind in Croatia.

Franciscan Monastery & Game of Thrones Steps | Discovering Dubrovnik E3
I spent the morning looking around the Franciscan Church and Monastery, home to a historic pharmacy, church and library. In the centre of it all there's a pretty little garden surrounded by cloisters. A nice place to visit but packed full of tourists (I know, I know - I'm one of them!). After strolling around the old town for a few more hours I found the steps where the hit TV show Game of Thrones filmed Cersei's Walk of Shame scene.

MediMoments 2009: Dubrovnik,Croatia Dominican Monastery
The group found some much-needed shade and pews to sit and rest in the cloister of the Dominican Monastery in Dubrovnik, Croatia. It was the most beautiful part of the complex. Built in Gothic-Renaissance form, it is the work of local stone masons from the mid-15th century. When Napoleon occupied this area, the church was used to stable horses! Their eating troughs are still visible between the pillars of the cloister.

FRANCISCAN MONASTERY
The Romanesque cloister of the Franciscan monastery is an absolute delight, decorated with the remnants of old frescoes, and with delicate pillars surrounding a garden where orange trees grow. The monastery is most famous for its pharmacy, among the oldest in Europe and the oldest one still working. The monastery houses a museum where you can see original items from the pharmacy, plus an extensive library with precious incunabula, manuscripts, a large collection of musical notations and a treasury of artworks.

Bol Harbour and Glavica Monastery Croatia
The old town of Bol sits on an attractive harbour. Its winding streets and stone houses with coloured shutters and geraniums makes it a popular holiday location. Along from the harbour on a pretty beach is the beautiful Glavica Dominican Monastery, now a museum and hotel. Background music is Clouds by Huma-Huma.
