Sarasota Fishing Charters, Jig Fishing
Jig fishing is a very productive angling technique in Florida and other coastal states. Jigging is a tactic that I use often on my Sarasota fishing charters. Jigs are versatile, productive, and easy to use.
Fishing with jigs is easy. The anglers casts it out, allows it to sink, then retrieves it back in using an erratic action. This technique is used often on a Sarasota fishing charter.
Anglers jig fishing in Sarasota use this technique all year long. It is especially productive in the cooler months. Jigs will produce a wide variety of Sarasota species. Anglers can learn more at

Large Black Tip Shark Fishing in Tampa Bay - Shallow Point Fishing Charters
Walt Disney World of Fishing. When I hear someone chooses to go fishing instead of going to Disney world I agree that it is very much similar! very exciting no doubt! There are lines.. Mind you they are fishing lines. There is heat! It can be pretty hot when you are hooked up to a large fish! There can be burns! Suntan and lines burning off the reel as the drag sounds off! There are screams! Mostly of joy as the fish skyrockets from the water or we boat a spectacular fish! And there are rides! The boat runs back and forth from spot to spot! Good times no doubt! Just don't make the mistake of going to Disney World instead of fishing!!! Go after you go fishing! LOL!!!!

FRUSTRATED, Fishing Red Tide Affected Areas (Keeping It Reel Ep. 6)
A shore fisherman's point of view on fishing in waters that have been affected by red tide for six months. It's been a long and very frustrating experience so far to try and find good fishing spots inshore and along the beaches in my home town which is located along the south west coast of Florida. When I started this Youtube channel there were amazing areas that held the promise of catching fish very close to my home, not so anymore.
In this video the best advice I can offer anyone who wants to have a decent day of fishing is to hire a charter boat captain. These men and women are professionals at what they do who spend time on the water every week locating where the fishing is good. Even though red tide has been relentless for so many months there are still areas that hold really good fishing.
For me the biggest thing I've noticed as I get out and fish at least three times per week is the lack of small bait fish. The images we've seen all over the news paint a good picture of what has happened to the smaller fish. Now, some of the videos I've uploaded of catching fish in areas affected by red tide have had some good fish catches in them. I believe that a lot of the larger fish have survived, but the problem is they are following whatever bait schools have survived. Without a boat finding bait is difficult.
I have shared a lot of my experiences, views, opinions and struggles in this video about how red tide has affected my life as a fishing adventure Youtube video creator. Here's a simple truth, if I keep doing the same things over and over, I'll continue being irritated with the situation. I think for me in order to keep peace of mind I will have to continue exploring more areas that have not been devastated with red tide.

Caught a Monster Grouper that Weighed MORE than the BOAT
Max and I left the dock with one fishing mission, catch and release a Goliath Grouper that weighed more than his boat! The total weight of the boat hull is 550lbs, so we needed to find one of the largest Goliath Groupers in all of Florida to break this number. We started the day off fishing for bonito (false albacore). Within minutes, my reel started screaming and fish on! It turned out to be a huge snook! A monster Goliath Grouper tried to eat the snook while I was bringing it in. After releasing the snook, Max and I decided to try and catch the monster Goliath Grouper that tried to eat my snook. I used a live bonito for bait and then all of sudden there he was, the largest Goliath Grouper that I've ever seen! He ate the bait and immediately started towing the boat! We estimated the weight of this Goliath grouper between 600-700lbs.

Clearwater Beach includes a resort area and a residential area on the Gulf of Mexico in Pinellas County on the west central coast of Florida. Just west over the Intracoastal Waterway by way of the Clearwater Memorial Causeway from the city of Clearwater, Florida, of which it is part, Clearwater Beach is located at a geographic latitude is 27.57 N and longitude 82.48 W. The average local temperature is 73 °F (23 °C), with fall and spring being the most comfortable seasons. In January 2013, Clearwater Beach was awarded the designation of Florida's Best Beach Town by a reader poll from USA Today readers. It competed against nine other Florida beach destinations entered in the poll.
Clearwater Beach is characterized by white sand beaches stretching for 2.5 miles (4 km) along the Gulf and sits on a barrier island. It has a full marina on the Intracoastal Waterway side and is linked on the south by a short bridge to another barrier island called Sand Key, where Sand Key Park is located.
Clearwater Beach is approximately 20 miles (30 km) from Tampa International Airport and 25 miles (40 km) from downtown Tampa. It offers shopping, restaurants, and activities such as parasailing, jet ski rentals, boat tours (with a common sighting of dolphins in the Gulf waters), miniature golf, fishing charters, and pirate ship cruises.
Pier 60, named for State Road 60 which terminates in Clearwater Beach, is a central spot for beachgoers and has a playground, a snack bar with attached souvenir shop, and a long fishing pier. It's the site of a daily event called Sunsets at Pier 60, which includes street performers and musical acts. On the pier itself is a nightly display of goods sold by local artisans such as jewelry, candles, and other gift items.
The Clearwater Jolley Trolley has provided transportation up and down the beach since 1982. It currently runs to North Clearwater Beach and down to Sand Key, including Island Estates. Mandalay Avenue is the main drag on the north end of the beach with Gulfview Boulevard being so on the south. Both areas feature a variety of businesses.
Clearwater has frequently been ranked one of the best beaches in the U.S. Its Sandpearl resort was named one of the best beach resorts in the U.S. In 2009 an episode of Brooke Knows Best was shot on the beach

THE MUDDS LIVE at Crumps Landing Homosassa, FL USA
Book The Band (352) 586-6131 Betsy Mudd * Listen to The Mudds on Soundcloud CLICK LINK: soundcloud.com/sam-mudd-82269938
“Muddifing” the Blues.
The Mudds are known for their soulful, relaxing sound. Their smooth jazz and blues style will return you to the days of Louisiana speak-easy lounges and cool cats. Cool jazzy blues for any venue or festival needing relaxing easy listening music. They play as a husband and wife duo, or a band by adding a drummer and/or Sax/Clarinet and keys.
To build their vast set list, Sam and his wife Betsy, hand-pick songs from 1940s and 1950s blues masters such as Eddie Boyd, Ollie Shepard, Smokey Hogg, Willie Dixon and ZZ Top. Sam Mudd writes all of their original songs. Because Sam is wonderfully talented and has vast musical knowledge he comes up with unique lyrics and tones. It works by learning the unique sound of scale degrees, (root, 2nd, 3rd, 7th, etc), understanding the rules of music (music theory) and how those rules sound in action.
Sam Mudd began playing bass as a teen. He would put on a LP and drag the needle back a million times to learn every note of a song. In high school, he played with his friends at his prom and parties. After his father was killed in Korea, Sam’s mom moved the Mudd clan to Florida. By chance he met Sarasota Slim in a pawn shop. Slim needed a bass player. Over the next decade, Sam gained a ton of experience playing with Sarasota Slim, Lucky Peterson and numerous other great musicians. He toured the globe as the original bassist with Tampa Bay blues band Rock Bottom & The Cutaways. His last gig was with Slim’s band in Key West at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville around. That was around 1990. Like many musicians, he needed a break from the business. Sam took a twenty-five year hiatus to pursues home building, real estate and antiques. In 1998, he met Betsy in scuba diving class. A bucket list thing for Betsy. As dive buddies they became close. Betsy was an independent artist and business woman. They became best friends and moved to Inverness, Florida to retire early and be close to Betsy’s folks.
2014. On a whim, and while Betsy was spending a couple of months in Jax with her grandsons, Sam bought a bass and called up Slim. Sam wasn’t really sure if he wanted to return to the music scene and all that comes with it… But Sam decided to stick his big toe in the water. And after a few trips to the Tampa-St Pete area to check out the music scene with Slim he decided to jump in the deep end. He worked tirelessly getting his “chops up” and reawaken his musical memory of Slim’s songs, all the blues covers. Within a few weeks, Sam was asked to play full time with Franc Robert. Little Mike and various top-notch Florida bands called him to play bass as well.
Betsy returned to a changed man. She had never seen Sam play and was, shall we say, impressed. She started getting gigs for him. Slim even dubbed her “Colonel Parker” Elvis’ manager. She never missed any of Sam’s gigs, but the late hours and honky-tonk clubs were wearing on both of them.
Summer of 2015, they traveled to Lenoir, North Carolina with Slim, Chicago Bluesman Nitro Bozeman and drummer Jim Mackey to play the VII Pop Furguson Festival. On the way to the festival, they play Savanna and a couple of other places Slim had set up. During the two day festival, Sam played bass for Big Bill Morganfield Muddy Water’s son, Trudy Lynn, Barbara Carr, Wanda Johnson, even Creole Jazz Serenader’s Don Vappie and many more.
After about a year in, Sam and Betsy decided to put together their own little band. Sam hand the bass over to Betsy. He taught her his entire bag of tricks all the while perfecting his vocals, guitar leads and writing all of the songs on their first album “Dream One Day”. They practiced night and day. Betsy had never played an instrument in her entire life. But as an artist, Betsy learned quickly that music was just another medium to express art. Best of all, her smooth rhythmic lines fit like a glove with Sam’s old school style. Sam says, “Betsy’s solid, she’s eager to learn new material, and (almost) always smiling.” Betsy says, “It’s not easy to get in front of a crowd of people and play, but you over-come the butterflies because you love the music. And making someones’s night a little more special because they heard some good blues. Playing bass next to my husband is like a dream come true. Sam and I have never been happier.” That was just four short, but productive, years ago.
The Mudds first began playing at Sip in Leesburg, Florida every Saturday on the patio. Shortly after, Whispering Oaks Winery in Oxford took them on as the House Band. Confident that The Mudds were ready to play any venue, Betsy got on the horn and the gigs started rolling in. Check their calendar and catch them playing all over Central Florida.
