Windmills of Sussex: Battle Windmill
This video documents the windmill at Battle in Sussex as it looks today. Me and my sister have had a lifelong interest in tall and interesting buildings such as windmills, and aim to go round many of the windmills in the region and other counties in England, so more videos will come in future months. This particular video was filmed whilst on a family holiday in Sussex.
The windmill at Battle is known as Caldbec Mill or King's Head Mill and was built in 1810. This smock mill was converted into a house with the ground floor originally being tarred brick, but now being greatly enlarged. It exhibits an excellent example of a beehive-shaped cap which is weather boarded, and the windmill sits just off of Caldbec Hill in Battle.

The first news report, probably in 1994 or early 1995, shows the eroded condition of the soft ironstone from which she is built. Alan, with Margaret Kent , the then Chairman of Heage Windmill Society, and Dave Nicholls, another early worker, are seen examining rotten flooring, caused by water ingress. The condition of some pieces of machinery are also shown.
The report is by James Roberson, who still reports for EMT today 20 years later !

Windmills of Cambridgeshire: Impington Windmill
This video documents the windmill at Impington in Cambridgeshire as it looks today. Me and my sister have had a lifelong interest in tall and interesting buildings such as windmills, and aim to go round many of the windmills in the region and other counties in England, so more videos will come in future months.
Impington windmill was built around 1776 and has quite an extensive history. Since 1999 it has been owned by Steve and Pippa Temple who kindly open the mill regularly at various intervals throughout the year. The windmill had it's sails restored in 2007, and stands a couple of miles away from the borders of Cambridge. In this video (filmed during the Open Mills Weekend), you will get a brief look at the outside of the windmill, and a showing of the sails being turned round by hand.

Chillenden Windmill
Chillenden windmill was built by Holman's of Canterbury in 1868, replacing an earlier post mill that had blown down. The new mill incorporated some material from the old one. A windmill was marked on Philip Symonson's map of 1596, John Speed's map of 1611, Robert Morden's map of 1695, Emanuel Bowen's map of 1736, Andrews, Drury and Herbert's map of 1769 and all Ordnance Survey maps from 1819. Holman's, the Canterbury millwrights fitted a new stock and two new sails in 1927, and the mill was working until 1949, when it lost a sail in a gale. Local people raised some money in 1955 to make the mill weatherproof, and on 12 December 1957 the mill was bought for £100 by Kent County Council and restored at a cost of £728 , although some machinery was removed.

Little Histories / The Willesborough Windmill
High on the landscape of Ashford in Kent stands the Willesborough Windmill. Built in 1869 on the site of a lightening damaged Mill. It ceased production in 1950 and was used for storage until it was eventually left to rot.
Now the Willesborugh Windmill is a working museum and the only flour producing windmill in Kent.
I met up with Brian Stamp, the miller of Willesborough Windmill, and he gave me a tour.
