Join us as we head back to the sunny seaside town of Margate in Kent on Easter good Friday and make a visit to Dreamland amusement park
Dreamland is now home to a huge amount of rides ranging from the stunning 1920’s Scenic Railway coaster up to the brand new Spinning Wild Mouse, the park also added 8 other new rides from Italian ride manufacturers Zamperla but also house some old vintage rides too
Massive thanks to the parks management team for sorting us out with complimentary wristbands and a behind the scenes tour of the Scenic Railway and for getting us on their new rides
Vlog and on ride povs are filmed in HD 1080p 60fps using a GoPro Hero 6 Black with chest harness and Handler with permission from the park

A walk through the British coastal town of Margate, home town to artists JMW Turner & Tracey Emin. Recently its gained a reputation as an artistic and hip place to move to - earning the nickname Shoreditch on sea. But there's so much more here than great coffee shops.
We start near Dreamland - the renovated, retro theme park and concert venue, and pass beaches and old town markets to the Turner Contemporary Gallery and the curve of Margate's pier and harbour.

Dreamland Amusement Park dates from 1863 when buildings opened as a restaurant and dance hall. Known then as the 'Hall by the Sea', the business was sold in about 1870. Circus Boss 'Lord' George Sanger eventually became the sole proprietor of the site together with further adjacent land to the rear. A menagerie and circular riding machines were some of the early features of these Pleasure Gardens. Following Sanger's death in 1911, the site was subsequently acquired in 1919 by amusement entrepreneur John H. Illes. He renamed the site 'Dreamland' after visiting the Dreamland Amusement Park at Coney Island, Brooklyn NY. The Illes family already owned and operated amusement facilities both here and abroad. The first new major adult riding machine was opened to the public in 1920. The 'Scenic Railway' was a flanged wheel coaster with an on-board brakeman. This 'Call-Bird' of a ride was soon joined by a host of other juvenile and adult riding machines, supported by other attractions such as The Wall of Death. The Illes family remained in control of Dreamland until 1968. There followed a number of owners, each with their own ideas for cementing the future of this amusement park. Eventually the site was sold to the Town Centre Regeneration Company in 2005 when its' gates were finally closed to the public. A plan to restore the Park to its' former glory has already received a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Classic riding machines have been donated from various sources to the Dreamland Trust. Let us hope that this Amazement Park will again thrill and entertain all three generations of the family.

Dreamland re-opening, Margate, UK Part 1
It’s taken 12 years and £18 million, but it’s finally back open for business! This video shows the official opening of Margate’s Dreamland Amusement Park.
On 19 June 2015 crowds flocked to the seaside funland which includes restored vintage rides, a roller disco, pleasure gardens, restaurants, arcades and amusements – all harking back to the golden age of the British seaside.
The park’s history has been fraught. For decades a popular tourist attraction, pulling in young and old alike with its mix of arcades and white-knuckle rides, it suffered as Margate declined as a tourist venue and a new breed of theme parks opened on huge sprawling sites and boasting ever-more extravant experiences.
After a period of steady decline, the late owner decided in 2003 to shut it and use the land for commercial and residential development, a decision that was deeply unpopular with locals.
A Government report looked into it, and as a result, it was sold to Margate Town Centre Regeneration Company in 2005 for £20 million.
But then things stalled…
As the Turner Contemporary art gallery opened and became a catalyst for regeneration, so pressure began to grow on turning one of the seafront’s prime sites into something to capitalise on the town’s changing reputation.
A group – the Dreamland Trust – was formed with ambition to turn the site into a heritage amusement park and attempted to acquire the site. After a lengthy legal wrangle, it finally secured the site, paving the way for the project to start taking shape. Twelve years later the site is open.
