Drayton Hall was built somewhere around 1738 by John Drayton. Considered one of the earliest and finest examples of Georgian-Palladian architecture in the United States, it is part of the most significant, undisturbed historic landscapes in America.

Join us on our trip to Charleston South Carolina and Savannah Georgia 2017! This video is our first two days of our Charleston South Carolina vacation.
Our start was delayed about 5 hours as Anya woke up at 3am with a 101 fever. We had to bring her to see the doctor before leaving for Charleston to make sure it was nothing serious. We left around 1:30pm and arrived in Charleston at 9:30pm.
We stayed at the Inn at Middleton Place. Day 2, we explored the Middleton Plantation and Magnolia Gardens, Magnolia Plantation, and grabbed dinner in downtown Charleston, SC.

A Historic plantation home along the Ashley River in Charleston, Drayton Hall is a window into life on the 18th and 19th century Southern plantation. In March 2001, a multi-skilled preservation team began a conservation project to save the home from ravages of time.
2008 Drayton Hall Archaeological Institute
A brief overview of the findings of the 2008 Drayton Hall Archaeological Institute, including the foundation of a circa 1740s wall that once connected the main house to one of the flanker buildings as well as the foundation of an earlier house on the site, dating to 1680-1710, making it one of the earliest known house sites excavated in South Carolina.

Middleton Place is a National Historic Landmark and home to America's Oldest Landscaped Gardens. The Garden Club of America has called the 65 acres the most important and most interesting garden in America. Centuries-old camellias bloom in the winter months and azaleas blaze on the hillside above the Rice Mill Pond in the spring. In summer, kalmia, magnolias, crepe myrtles and roses accent a landscape magnificent throughout the year. Tiya Miles is the Mary Henrietta Graham Distinguished University Professor at the University of Michigan, where she teaches in the departments of Afro-American & African Studies, American Culture, History, Native American Studies and Women's Studies.
