This silent home movie dates to the 1940s. One of the highlights includes shots of an original Dairy Queen softserve ice cream parlor at :37. At 1:54 are driving POV shots and at 1:58 shots of a suspension bridge. At 2:10 highway traffic is seen and at 2:30 a Pennzoil highway sign. A sign at 2:10 indicates this is near the town of West View, Pennsylvania in Allegheny County. At 2:57 a Ralston Purina truck passes by. This is most likely on the Pennsylvania Turnpike or New Jersey Turnpike. At 3:05 a large factory building is shown with a sign that appears to read Staedard. At 3:23 a 1940s sedan sits by the highway. At 4:11 a building marked New Baltimore, probably located in New York State, is shown. At 4;20 more traffic is shown on a large, divided section of highway. At 4:48 the car's auto compass is visible on the windscreen. At 4:57 one of the Pennsylvania Turnpike portals is seen -- probably the Allegheny tunnel. At 5:27 the Kittatinny Mountain Tunnel is seen. At 5:59 a large building is shown at Arlington National Cemetery. At 6:05 a soldier marches in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. At 6:41 are shots out of the top of the Washington Monument. At 8:08 a large rose garden is shown. At 9:00 are shots of the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor. At 9:15, panning shots of New York City from a great distance. At 10:11 a large ocean liner cruises past. At 10:17 are shots from the Empire State Building of Manhattan. At 10:47 the RMS Queen Elizabeth is shown at dock in New York City. At 11:03 lumber is seen floating on a river. At 11:29 and following are shots of Niagara Falls. At 12:45 a cable car transits the river near the falls. The film ends with a sunset at 13:40 and shots of flowers being cultivated at 14:00.

Let's go together and walk from the largest transit station in New York city, Grand Central Terminal, to Pennsylvania Station. We pass by the garment district in midtown Manhattan.
what wikipedia tells us:
Grand Central Terminal (GCT; also referred to as Grand Central Station or simply as Grand Central) is a commuter rail terminal located at 42nd Street and Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Grand Central is the southern terminus of the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem, Hudson and New Haven Lines, serving the northern parts of the New York metropolitan area. It also contains a connection to the New York City Subway at Grand Central–42nd Street station. The terminal is the third-busiest train station in North America, after New York Penn Station and Toronto Union Station.
Pennsylvania Station, also known as New York Penn Station or Penn Station, is the main intercity railroad station in New York City and the busiest in the Western Hemisphere, serving more than 600,000 passengers per weekday as of 2019. Penn Station is in Midtown Manhattan, close to Herald Square, the Empire State Building, Koreatown, and Macy's Herald Square. Entirely underground, the station is located in Midtown South beneath Madison Square Garden, between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, and between 31st and 33rd Streets, with additional exits to nearby streets.

Empire State Building New York City, New York
New Learn Pilates App!
Mahalo travel expert Asha K. gives you some quick tips for visiting the Empire State Building in New York City.
Overview
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The Empire State Building, located at 350 5th Avenue at W 34th Street, is a must-see landmark for anyone visiting New York City. Every day, tourists from around the globe visit this iconic building to check out the stunning 360-degree views of the city from the observation deck located on the 86th floor. On a clear day, you can see Central Park, New Jersey, Manhattan and even Massachusetts. To get to the observatory floor, expect to pay $21 for adults and $14 for children. An additional $6 can be paid for the prerecorded audio tour as well.
History
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Built in 1931 at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and W 34th Street, the 102-story Empire State Building was the tallest building in the world at 1,250 feet, plus the 203-foot pinnacle, until the World Trade Center's North Tower was built in 1972. It has been named one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Engineers. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986. With the attack on the WTC in 2001, the Empire State Building became New York City's tallest building once more. It is the third tallest skyscraper in the United States after Chicago's Willis Sears Tower and Trump International Hotel and Tower, and the 15th tallest in the world.
The building was designed by William F. Lamb from the top down in the early 19th Century. Financing came from John J. Raskob and Pierre S. du Pont. Construction began on March 17, 1930 and involved 3,400 workers and iron workers. The ribbon was cut on May 1, 1931, 410 days after building started. It cost nearly $41 million to erect.
The Empire State Building includes 85 stories of commercial and office space. Excluding the observation deck, the other 16 stories represent the Art Deco tower. It has 6,500 windows and 73 elevators. About 1,000 businesses and 21,000 employees are housed within. It even has its own zip code - 10118.
The Tower Lights
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The tower lights change often to celebrate different occasions. May 20-22, 2011, for instance, the Empire State Building will display blue and white lights on the North and South sides, while the East and West sides will sport blue and orange lights for the New York Mets and the New York Yankees Subway Series. Earth Day and St. Patrick's Day have the building in green lights; red, white and blue for President's Day and Independence Day; and red, pink and white for Valentine's Day among many other celebratory days throughout the year. Visit the website to find out what color combinations are coming up for your visit.
The Run-Up
---------------------------------------------------------------------
On February 1, you could catch the Empire State Building Annual Run-Up where athletes from around the world come to race up the buildings 1,576 steps to the observatory floor. As of 2011, Thomas Dold of Germany took first place for the sixth year in a row with a time of 10 minutes and 10 seconds.
Famous Visitors
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Among the famous and notable visitors to the Empire State Building over the years are Fidel Castro, President Bill Clinton, Emeril Lagasse, Cyndi Lauper, Harry Connick, Jr., Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, Johnny Damon, Oscar De La Hoya, Celine Dion, Hilary Duff, Roger Federer, Calista Flockhart, Michael J. Fox, Whoopi Goldberg, Melanie Griffith, David Hasselhoff, Ethan Hawke, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sir Ian McKellen and many, many more.

NEW YORK DAG 3 ???????? 9/11 MEMORIAL, BROOKLYN BRIDGE & EMPIRE STATE BUILDING
Yeah !
In de avond gaan we The Empire State Building op. Wat een prachtige zonsondergang met een nog mooier uitzicht! Zo sluiten we deze dag af. Geweldig! Hoop dat jullie met mij mee kunnen genieten tijdens het kijken van deze vlog.

100 Years on the Lincoln Highway
Before the Interstate Highway System, before famed Route 66, before highways were even numbered, there was one road that started it all, one road that changed America forever: The Lincoln Highway. “100 Years on the Lincoln Highway” is the story of the first coast to coast automobile road in the United States and its impact on Wyoming.
RAILROADING IN THE EASTERN USA 1897-1906 BIOGRAPH NOVELTY FILMS 51974 MD
Railroading in the East is a collection of silent, short films depicting fast moving trains filmed between 1897-1906. This is among some of the earliest extant footage of trains moving, as audiences in small theaters had the illusion that they were seeing the real thing. (The famous story is that audiences seeing a train headed straight for them panicked and bolted from the theater!) These short films were photographed by the Edison and Biograph Companies. In order to register a copyright they had to be transferred to a paper positive, looking like motion picture film. During the late 1950s these paper positives, stored at the Library of Congress, were recopied onto new movie film, and sold as copies to collectors. This film contains the following:
00:47 New Jersey Central Flyer passing under the Pennsylvania Railroad at Elizabeth, NJ
01:36 Lehigh Valley Black Diamond Express passing through Lehigh Gorge, Pennsylvania
02:24 New York and West Shore,, New York
04:40 Ulster and Delaware passing through Kingston, NY
05:17 Pennsylvania Railroad Horseshoe Curve, heading east around the curve
06:50 Grand Trunk Railroad, Michigan at the Sarnia Tunnel
09:22 Lehigh Valley Rotary snow plows in action
10:50 Lehigh Valley Black Diamond Express ... followed by Empire State Express on the New York & Hudson, a Ghost train and Empire State Express passing over track pans.

New York City - Video tour of Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn (Part 1)
Hello and welcome for another video tour of a great New York neighborhood by New York Habitat ( ). Today's video will be the first video tour of our two part series dedicated to this fantastic neighborhood : Brooklyn Heights!
Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel ( ) and you'll be notified when Part 2 comes out in a few weeks.
Also, feel free to watch other great video tours of New York such as Greenwich Village ( ) or Lower East Side ( )
Brooklyn Heights is located across the Brooklyn Bridge from Lower Manhattan. It's bordered by the East River on the west, the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway to the north, Cadman Plaza and Court Street to the east, and Atlantic Avenue to the south.
Transportation
One of the best things about Brooklyn Heights is its many subway connections. This area is served by no less than 9 lines, so whether you're going to the East or West Side of Manhattan, you'll rarely have to change trains. From the transport hub at Borough Hall, you can take the #2 express train to Times Square or the #4 express train to Grand Central, both about 15 minutes away.
Of course, the best way to get to Manhattan is to walk or cycle across the Brooklyn Bridge. First thing in the morning on the way to work or at night after dinner downtown, you'll always get amazing views of New York City. This neighborhood is famous for its stunning view of Manhattan and the New York Harbor.
Brooklyn Heights Promenade
From the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, you'll get a great view of the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge and even the Empire State Building. The promenade was built above the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in 1950. Before, the land was private gardens.
Middagh Street
Here on Middagh Street at number 24, you'll find The Federal building, the oldest house in the Heights, dating back to1824.
Early Dutch settlers came to the Heights in the 1640s, and it was mostly farmland for the next 150 years. It wasn't until Robert Fulton invented a fast ferry in 1814 that the population boomed and streets like this got built up.
Brooklyn Heights Apartments:
If you really want to absorb yourself into the culture and daily life of Brooklyn, you'll want to forget the hotel and book one of the many vacation rentals and furnished apartments that New York Habitat has to offer in the area. There's no better way to truly enjoy your stay in Brooklyn.
For example, we have this fully furnished 2-bedroom apartment just a few blocks south of Brooklyn Heights ( This apartment is on the top floor of a 3-story walk-up brownstone. This rental comes with the comfort of air conditioning in the bedrooms and living room, a fully equipped eat-in kitchen and cable TV. The bathroom comes with the luxury of a jacuzzi bathtub.
Also just a short walk to Brooklyn Heights proper is this 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom furnished duplex rental ( The apartment is updated and furnished with modern furnishings throughout. The apartment comes with the convenience of a washer and dryer, of course a fully equipped kitchen and the added bonus of a private terrace, deck and backyard area.
Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims
The Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims on Orange Street was founded in 1847 and its first preacher was Henry Ward Beecher, brother of the writer Harriet Beecher Stowe. Beecher was a powerful abolitionist speaker who drew crowds here on Sundays. Visitors included Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, and Abraham Lincoln.
Well, I hope you've enjoyed our tour of Brooklyn Heights and of course, there is a lot more to do and see in this neighborhood. If I've missed any of your favorite secrets of Brooklyn Heights, make sure you leave a comment in the comment section below.
If you're planning a trip to New York, do yourself a favor, skip the boring hotel room and choose one of hundreds furnished apartments ( )or vacation rental ( ) through New York Habitat.
Also, be sure to check out our blog, if you want to learn more about Brooklyn Heights:
Well, that's a wrap of our first episode of our video tour of Brooklyn Heights. If you've know some fun spots in this area to share with us, please leave a comment below.
You're just a few clicks away from living like a real New Yorker.
Thanks for hanging out with us today in Brooklyn Heights ! We hope to see you soon, making your own discoveries in the borough of Brooklyn.

Railfanning all over Chicagoland on 15.07.12
I spent a day with an out-of-town friend, showing him some of the railfanning hotspots around the Chicago area. We started off in Northwest Indiana and ended up in downtown Chicago later that day- after Roosevelt Road, I struck off on my own for the day. Locations are, in order: Hammond-Whiting Amtrak station, State Line Crossing north end, Blue Island Junction, Lavergne Crossing, Roosevelt Road, Bridgeport Junction, 49th & Western (Western Orange Line station) and Lumber Street.
About 3/4 of the way through, my camera battery died, so I switched to my lower-quality old one... and then its card filled up. So I deleted some things and took stills, which I included here. I'm not going to bother with individual train descriptions, because there are over 20 trains here!

Meet the hot milkman driving NYC ladies to drink — milk | New York Post
Frank Acosta is milking it.
The personal trainer turned professional milkman is not shy about his special advantage in this city of moo-vers and shakers. “I capitalize on my looks to get clients,” Acosta, 40, who is single, tells The Post.
And customers can’t wait for the shaggy-haired delivery guy to get their lattes steaming.
“He’s such a hunk,” longtime customer Lia Shire, of the Upper West Side, tells The Post.
“I have not bought milk or eggs from a grocery since I started with him,” adds the married mom, who says she’s referred smitten friends.
Acosta, a FiDi resident, co-founded Manhattan Milk in 2006, along with business partner Matt Marone. The pair bottle and deliver country-fresh cow juice to eager clients across four boroughs and New Jersey. A single gallon costs $8, though some families spill up to $100 per week on the single-herd, grass-fed, low-temperature pasteurized milk from an upstate New York farm. (Delivery is included with a $25 order minimum, with items such as heavy cream, eggs and New York state maple syrup also available.)
Even though Manhattan Milk has a few competitors, Acosta says he’s proof that milk “does a body good.”
“I had to drink it with every meal since growing up,” says Acosta, who was raised in Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan, where he studied pre-law. Now, he downs a glass of whole milk before his daily workouts and chugs chocolate milk chasers after pumping iron at the gym.
That’s not the only way Acosta stays buff. He helps hand-deliver up to 600 cases of milk a day. Prep at the Westchester warehouse often starts at 11 p.m. before he’s on the road to get into Manhattan by 1 a.m. to make corporate deliveries. He shows up at private residences after dawn.
The udder-ly demanding all-nighters can take a toll, especially when his clients expect him to stick around and chat in the morning: “Being the face of the company has its repercussions. They want to talk to you all the time,” he says.
And although Manhattan Milk employs other delivery guys, he knows who his clients want to see him at their doors bright and early.
“Do people want it from me? 110%,” he says. “I don’t take vacations.”
While he does get hit on by eager customers, Acosta says he keeps things professional, even when his Instagram DMs are getting flooded. “I keep my head down and make my deliveries,” he says.
He even thinks crushes have cost him some of his regulars. “There were a few instances when we had cancellations, and I think [jealous husbands] are the reason why. I had that happen with training, too. You have wives who train with you and the minute the husband sees you — no more sessions.”
Acosta, who had a brief but memorable role on the “Real Housewives of Orange County” when he was linked to cast member Kelly Dodd, insists that there’s no real dating stigma to being a modern-day milkman.
“Being a milkman is a badge of honor,” he says.
But he confesses he has a dating dealbreaker of his own — namely women who don’t drink milk. “I wouldn’t trust them,” he says.
