Lisbon Oriente Railway Station (Gare do Oriente) | Express departing slowly from Lisbon , Portugal. Videography by Mr Auritro Paldas
Gare do Oriente (Portuguese pronunciation: [ɡaɾ(ɨ) du oɾiˈẽt(ɨ)]), or alternately, the Lisbon Oriente Station is one of the main Portuguese intermodal transport hubs, and is situated in the civil parish of Parque das Nações, municipality of Lisbon.
Oriente Station is situated in an urban area of reclaimed industrial and abandoned buildings fronting the northern margin of the Tagus River, situated 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) from the city centre.
Ambitious in its conception, the modernist station includes a Lisbon Metro station, a high-speed commuter and regional train hub, a local, national and international bus station, a shopping centre and a police station. The rail station was conceived with a multi-modal platform intersecting the cardinal axes for the various transport modes.
With some influence from Gothic architecture, the station bears considerable resemblance to Santiago Calatrava's earlier Allen Lambert Galleria within Toronto's Brookfield Place. Calatrava's objective was to realize a new space with ample room and functionality providing multiple connections between various zones in the metropolitan area of Lisbon.
One important aspect of the station is its link to the urban environment in which it was constructed. The decision to elevate the rail line, for example, eliminated a physical barrier between the city and the Tagus River margin. The station, covered in a lattice structure of glass and metal, is constructed of reinforced concrete and raised 19 metres (62 ft) over the roadway. By January 2011, there were eight lines that extended 510–720 metres (1,670–2,360 ft) across 309 metres (1,014 ft) platforms, between 60–70 centimetres (24–28 in) in height.
In addition to the many galleries that are part of the station, it is connected to the Centro Comercial Vasco da Gama (Vasco da Gama Commercial Centre/Mall) and the Lisbon Metro through a subterranean access, as well as a first floor connection to the train platforms and a pedestrian walkway.
Oriente Station (Gare do Oriente), is part of the Parque das Nações district of eastern Lisbon. The modernist station building was designed by the leading Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and was completed in time for the 1998 Lisbon Expo. Gare do Oriente includes a Lisbon Metro station on the Linha Vermelha Line and a suburban train station on the Azambuja Line that has connecting trains to Santa Apolónia, Alverca, Vila Fraca de Xera and Azambuja. The Sintra Line connects Gare do Oriente with Roma Areeiro, Entrecampos, Sete Rios, M. Abraão Campolide and Sintra. The quickest trains from Gare do Oriente take 2 hours, 35 minutes to reach Campanha Station in Porto.

LISBON: Parque das Nações - newest district (5/5) Portugal HD
Parque das Nações (English: Park of the Nations) is the newest district in Lisbon/Lisboa, having emerged from an urban renewal programme leading to the World Exhibition of Lisbon 1998, also known as Expo'98.
The Gare do Oriente is one of the main transport hubs of Lisbon for trains, buses, taxis and the metro. Its glass and steel columns are inspired by Gothic architecture, lending the whole structure a visual fascination (especially in sunlight or when illuminated at night).
The area is pedestrian-friendly with new buildings, restaurants, gardens, the Casino Lisbon, the Vasco da Gama Shopping Center, the FIL building (International Exhibition and Fair), the Camões Theatre, cable car, as well as the Oceanário de Lisboa (Lisbon Oceanarium), the second largest in the world.
To tour the area, visitors can jump on a toy train that passes by the main attractions every twenty minutes, or ride the cable car that runs the full length of the site, parallel to the river, while giving commanding views along the way.
The Marina Parque das Nações features 600 berths and modern infrastructures, a river pier for cruises or historical vessels and an exclusive pontoon prepared to receive nautical and on land events.

In the distance, the Vasco da Gama Bridge over the river Tagus (Tejo) can be seen. It is the longest bridge in Europe (including viaducts), with a total length of 12.3 kilometres (7.6 mi), including 0.8 kilometres (0.50 mi) for the main bridge and 11.5 kilometres (7.1 mi) in viaducts. It was built to alleviate the congestion on Lisbon's 25 de Abril Bridge, and eliminate the need for traffic between the country's northern and southern regions to pass through the capital city.
The bridge was opened to traffic on 29 March 1998, just in time for Expo 98, the World's Fair that celebrated the 500th anniversary of the discovery by Vasco da Gama of the sea route from Europe to India.
