Mount Etna, Sicily
Mount Etna is Europe's largest active volcano and stands at more than 3,300 metres. It's not guaranteed that you will witness a volcanic eruption but you will be rewarded with amazing scenery both on the lower slopes and at the craters.
As your bus/car makes its way up to the craters you will pass through the lava fields. It's possible to visit a lava tube on the way but you will need a hard hat for safety.
At present, the summit crater is closed to the public but there is access to other craters including the one that was formed during the 2001 eruption. A short walk will take you through a lunar landscape up to the 2001 crater - one of 3 craters in that particular area. Walking around the rim of the the crater you can look down on the other two craters, one of which is also accessible to tourists.
* Mount Etna is a wonderful place to visit but due to continuous volcanic activity combined with the fact that the volcano has over 100 craters, I would strongly advise you to join a tour group (if you are not on one already) plus check their itinerary to see what stops they make on the volcano before making a booking.

Amuri: The Sacred Flavors of Sicily
Directed by Palermo-born Giacomo Costa, AMURI is a year's journey through the colorful cuisine of five religious festivals across the island. This is a Sicily rarely seen by outsiders, a Sicily where it is the bread-kneading grandmother and the village priest in the camera’s focus. AMURI is an intimate portrait of the culinary and religious traditions at the center of the Sicilian spirit, traditions that have outlasted centuries of invasion, earthquake and corruption. From the sculptural breads of Saint Joseph day in March, to the castanet-like clatter of snails cooked in Palermo for Santa Rosalia in July, the documentary takes viewers on a mouth-watering tour around Sicily.
