Kannaviou Dam in Paphos, Cyprus
Kannaviou is located in the Paphos district and neighbours with the communities of Agios Dimitrianos , Psathi , Asproyia as well as the villages Polemi and Panayia. In order to get there from Paphos , take the Polis Chrysochous road and a little before Stroumbi Village , turn right towards Polemi for ten minutes.
The Kannaviou Dam is the fourth largest dam in Cyprus and the third largest dam in the Paphos district with a capacity of 17.2 million cubical metres of water. The dam’s height is 70 metres, the length is 600 metres and the total capacity is 1.800.000 m3.

Compared to other Cyprus Dams, Mavrokolympos might not be very popular but the area that surrounds the dam is beautiful and a visit for a morning or afternoon walk is well worth it.

Evretou Dam (Greek: Φράγμα Ευρέτου) is the third largest dam in Cyprus and also the largest rock-fill dam on the island.[1] It lies at an altitude of 165 m and is located about 15 km south of Polis Chrysochou, next to the abandoned village of Evretou. It is part of the Chrysochou Irrigation Project, the construction of which cost a total of CYP £21,000,000

A Hidden Gem: Asprogia-Kannaviou Dam
Cyprus may not boast a great many lakes, but with plenty of glistening dams around the country, there are a great number of spots to just kick back and relax by the water’s edge come winter. And if you’re looking for a place where gorgeous pine trees fringe iridescent waters, head through the lush Paphos Forest and veer towards the lesser known Asprogia – Kannaviou dam.
I went at this time with a car closer to end. The road is excellent even with a saloon car, but be very very careful. Locals drive fast accident can happen easily ..

The village of Kannaviou is located in the province of Pafos. Yes, the village's name comes from what you suspect. In the past there was too much cannabis (kannavouri)!
In history, cannabis, which was abundant in the village, was used to make ropes, twine, nets and cloths from the plant fibers. However, there was no cannabis was left to remind the old ones, only vineyards that are abundant, olive trees, grapefruit, oak trees and plane trees.
Do not miss a walk to Asprogia-Kannaviou Dam, see the beautiful forest of Pafos that starts from there, and also visit the chapel of Panagia Chryseleousa, at a point that offers panoramic views of Kannaviou. The beautiful picnic site of Kannaviou , with the tall plantains, which is crossed by the river Ezousa, the 6th largest on the island, can relax you.

Its been a very wet winter in Cyprus - so wet that most of the dams are overflowing. This is the Asprokremos Dam - the second biggest dam in Cyprus - and its overflowing for the first time since 2004.
