Exbury Gardens Steam Railway 21/4/19
With the glorious weather over the Easter weekend, we decided to visit the 12.25 gauge Exbury Steam Railway, to see their biggest locomotive out in service.
'Mariloo' Built by the Exmoor Steam Railway in 2008 Works No.326, she is the largest 12.25 gauge locomotive in the world.
In the video you can see and hear this monster, as she tackles the steep gradients on the the 1 1/2 mile route.

Exbury Gardens at the south western tip of Southampton Water is a manor house set in massive landscaped gardens boasting a narrow gauge steam railway.
Owned by the Rothschild family and now occupied by Leopold David de Rothschild who turned out to be quite a charming guy when I bumped into him.
He turned the gardens into a Charitable trust, open near all year.

Exbury Gardens are situated in Hampshire, close to Southampton in the New Forest. I can honestly say that of all the gardens that I have visited in the UK that Exbury is by far the best so far, to say that it was stunning is an understatement, please watch the video and judge for yourself…

On Tuesday 11th April Exbury Gardens celebrated the official opening of our railway extension, which has extended the Rhododendron Line from approximately 1 1/4 miles to 1 1/2 miles in length.
Dan Snow joined us as special guest for the private event, which included friends and relatives of the Rothschild family, to unveil the name of our new station: Dragonfly Halt. Once Dragonfly Pond has become established, visitors will be able to alight at this new station to view the surrounding wildlife.

A long overdue visit to the Exbury Gardens Steam Railway on Saturday 25th March 2017.
Over the Winter Period, the EGR had undergone and track extention and now runs around the top of the North Lake near to the Doomsday Yew and American Garden. There is also a new station called Dragonfly Halt which has yet to be opened.
The locomotive in charge of services on this day was EGR 2-6-2 Mariloo.

Exbury Gardens Miniature Railway - the whole line
A combination of illness and other commitments mean there's no full length trip report this weekend. Sorry! But here's something for the train enthusiasts - a full length ride over the full 1.5 miles on the delightfully English miniature train at Exbury Gardens. The UK has a plethora of narrow gauge and miniature railways like this, beautifully preserved by enthusiasts.
