ABOUT PIERRE LOTI
The famous cafe entitled with the name of Pierre Loti, a famous French writer, is reached on getting to this ridge on which the perfect view of Golden Horn can be watched.
The real name of Pierre Loti, who lived in Istanbul for long years and was a real Istanbul lover, was Julien Viaud. The historical cafe is the most ideal place to watch this mentioned view.
It is said that, in those years Pierre Loti used to come this cafe often, named as “Rabia Kadın Kahvesi” in those years, and write his novel “Aziyade” overlooking Golden Horn.Today, this district, still kept as an original Turkish settlement by being restorated, consists of many spaces serving as a tourist facility. The district is also mentioned in Evliya Çelebi’s Seyahatname ( travel book) as “Idris Köşkü Mesiresi”. There are many historical artifacts and building in Pierre Loti, commonly visited by tourists and travelers who come to Istanbul in 19th century. Double-epigraphed, wooden “Kaşgari Tekkesi”, dated 1813 and located on the way from the tourist facility to Eyüp Mosque, is one of these structures.Another important Persian-epigraphed building, at the right corner of the service area and located at a trivium, is “Çolak Şeyh Hasan Türbesi.” A part of this building is çilehane(çilehane is a place in which a dervish undergoes and suffers to strength his patience.) and Çolak Hasan Dede’s grave is here too.The historical building, on the same way with “Çolak Şeyh Hasan Tekkesi”, is “Sıbyan Mektebi” or a nursery school in today’s context. (Today, that school is used as a prayer room that belongs to the service area.)The grave of a whirling dervish called “Iskender Dede”, passed away in 1589,takes place in Pierre Loti Tourist Facility located forefront Sıbyan Mektebi that was built by Ottoman history writer İdris-i Bitlisi. One of the two water wells infront of Iskender Dede is the famous “Dilek Kuyusu” (a water well for wishes) Evliya Çelebi writes about this water well in his Seyahatname and says: the people who look in to the well, can see their own wishes they keep in their hearts. There is also a drinking fountain next to the frontage of Sıbyan Mektebi. In addition, a cistern, supposed to be built in Byzantine period, survives in the middle of the garden area in the tourist facility.
Eyup Sultan Mosque history
The mosque was erected on the instruction of Fatih Sultan Mehmet II (aka Mehmet The Conqueror), five years after he seized Constantinople for the Ottomans in 1453. However it fell into disrepair and was further ruined by earthquakes. It was rebuilt in a Baroque style using attractive pale honey-colored stone in 1800. The interior is elegant in design and the decorated dome of Eyup Sultan Mosque measures 17.5m in diameter and is supported by two half domes.

Eyup Sultan Mosque Complex, Istanbul, Turkey
The Eyüp Sultan Mosque (Turkish: Eyüp Sultan Camii) (Bengali: সাহাবা আবু আইয়ুব আল আনসারী মসজিদ, ইস্তাম্বুল) is situated in the Eyüp district of Istanbul, outside the city walls near the Golden Horn. The present building dates from the beginning of the 19th century. The mosque complex includes a mausoleum marking the spot where Eyüp al-Ansari/Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari , the standard-bearer and friend of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, is said to have been buried.
History: A mosque complex (külliye) was constructed on the site in 1458 by the Ottoman Turks only five years after the conquest of Constantinople in 1453. By the end of the 18th century the mosque was in a ruinous state, perhaps as a result of earthquake damage, and in 1798 sultan Selim III ordered the whole structure other than the minarets to be pulled down and rebuilt. This work was completed in 1800. The eastern minaret was rebuilt in the original style by Mahmud II in 1822.
Eyüp Sultan is believed to have died during the first Arab siege of Constantinople in the 670s. His tomb is greatly venerated by Muslims and attracts many pilgrims. The mausoleum is on the north side of a courtyard opposite the main entrance to the prayer hall of the mosque.
The mosque was the traditional site for the coronation ceremony of the Ottoman Sultans, where the new sultan was girded with the sword of Osman.
The wall of the mausoleum facing the mosque has a number of contrasting panels of Iznik tiles. They date from several different periods and were brought together during the reconstruction of mosque in 1798-1799. The walls of the vestibule to the mausoleum are also covered in Iznik tiles. They have the characteristic sealing-wax red slip and date from around 1580. Similar tiles to those in the vestibule are displayed in several museums outside Turkey; they probably once covered the walls of the now demolished entrance hall (camekân) to the baths.
The British Museum has a panel of three blue and turquoise Iznik tiles, dating from around 1550, that are similar to some of those that now decorate the external wall of the shrine.
WHO is Abu Ayyub: Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (died 674) — born Khalid bin Zayd bin Kulayb in Yathrib — hailed from the tribe of Banu Najjar and was a close companion (Arabic: الصحابه, sahaba) of Muhammad. He was named after the biblical Job. Abu Ayyub was one among the Ansar (Arabic: الأنصار, meaning aiders, helpers or patrons) of early Muslim history or those who supported Muhammad after the hegira (migration) to Medina in 622. The patronym Abu Ayyub, means father (abu) of Ayyub. Abu Ayyub died during the First Arab Siege of Constantinople. When Muhammad arrived in Medina, he was offered accommodation by all of its inhabitants. It was decided to leave his camel to walk freely and where ever it sits and whomsoever's house is near to choose as Muhammad's temporary residence and the camel sat near Abu Ayyub al-Ansari 's house who belonged to Bani An-Najjar the best of the tribes in Medina Sahih Bukari Book #73, Hadith #79. When Abu Ayub Al Ansari cooked a lunch only for Muhammad and Abubackr Muhammad ordered to invite the neighbourhood to their surprise which were about 180 people who ate satisfactorily and was a miracle. Following the Muslim conquest of Egypt, Abu Ayyub moved to a house in Fustat adjacent to the mosque of Amr bin Al'aas which was completed in 642. Several other notable companions were his neighbors, including Zubayr ibn al-Awwam, Ubaida, Abu Dhar, Abdullah ibn Umar and Abdullah ibn Amr bin Al'aas. He also led a distinguished military career. Of him it was said, He did not stay away from any battle the Muslims fought from the time of Muhammad to the time of Muawiyah, unless he was engaged at the same time in another. After the Conquest of Constantinople by the Ottoman Turks, a tomb was constructed above Abu Ayyub's grave and a mosque built in his honor. From that point on, the area now known as the locality of Eyüp has become sacred and many Ottoman officials requested burial in proximity of Abu Ayyub. Some hadith narrated by Abu Ayyub: Pls see on

Eyup Sultan (Abu-Al- Eyup Ansari Mosque)
Media and Communication Student at Istanbul Bilgi University. Short Documentary on Eyup Sultan Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey.
Abu Ayub Al- Ansari:
Eyup Sultan Mosque in Istanbul Turkey is considered one of the most important and sacred heritage of the Islamic world.
The present building structure dates from the beginning of the 19th century. The baroque mosque replaces the original mosque that was destroyed by the earthquake in 1766, The mosque complex includes a mausoleum marking the spot where Eyub Al-Ansari, the standard-bearer, and friend of the MPBUH, is said to have been buried.
Eyup is a popular spot animated by the small bazaar nearby, crowds relaxing by the spray of the fountains where families and kids who come from different parts of Turkey, spend time and buy the stuff.
The real attraction here is the türbe, a sacred burial site that draws masses of pilgrims waiting in line to stand in the presence of the contents of the solid silver sarcophagus or meditate in prayer. There was no entry fee. Rather plastic bags were provided free of cost for keeping shoes. In addition, the ladies were given scarves for covering their heads. Quite a large number of people had come to visit the tomb. Local women, wearing colorful dresses, were whispering versus from Holy Koran. Their presence coupled with flocks of pigeons and old trees created a mystical charm.

The graves of Sahaba are spread all over Istanbul. But a majority of them are situated close to the area of Eyub Sultan. The graves have existed since the 7th century without being desecrated or demolished during the different periods of rule over Istanbul.”
