The War on Terror: Coming Home
In Coming Home, Army veteran Derek Pelletier and National Guard veterans John DiRaimo, Brian Santos and Sean Judge share their combat experiences ---- and the stories of the lives they have led back in the civilian world, a world far removed from the battlefield.
Fall River resident Pelletier, twice honored with the Bronze Star, continues to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, as do Johnston native DiRaimo and Narragansett native Judge. Santos, who served with Judge, has followed a different path, becoming a state trooper in New Jersey and recently marrying.
Their interwoven stories and the commentary of health-care professionals illustrate the human toll of a war fought by a tiny fraction of Americans serving in an all-volunteer military ---- a war that has largely receded from the headlines.

The Most Radioactive Places on Earth
Who on Earth is exposed to the most ionizing radiation?
Check out Audible:
I'm filming a documentary for TV about how Uranium and radioactivity have shaped the modern world. It will be broadcast in mid-2015, details to come. The filming took me to the most radioactive places on Earth (and some places, which surprisingly aren't as radioactive as you'd think). Chernobyl and Fukushima were incredible to see as they present post-apocalyptic landscapes. I also visited nuclear power plants, research reactors, Marie Curie's institute, Einstein's apartment, nuclear medicine areas of hospitals, uranium mines, nuclear bomb sites, and interviewed numerous experts.
Notes about measuring radiation:
Sieverts are a measure of 'effective dose' - that means they measure the biological impact of the energy transferred to tissues from radiation.
Obviously I owe a debt to the fantastic chart made by xkcd, which inspired my visual approach to this video.
DOSES MAY VARY
The level of radiation varies widely around the world depending mainly on altitude and geology (excluding nuclear accidents).
Estimates of particular doses also vary. All numbers reported in this video should be taken as order of magnitude only.
The most contentious claim may be that smokers receive the highest dose of ionizing radiation. This is not a whole body dose, but a dose to the lungs as specified in the video. References are here:

HealthFirst Family Care Center Open House August 8, 2012
The Board of Directors of the new HealthFirst Family Care Center invited the public and special guests to an official open house on August 8, 2012 to celebrate the completion of their new $11.5 million facility on Quarry Street. The building replaces a facility that had been in use since 1971 and had become inadequate for the delivery of high quality medical and dental services to the Fall River community. The event marked the culmination of nearly two years of planning and construction to renovate a former Quaker Fabric facility into a state-of-the-art medical clinic complete with dental and nutrition programs. We're proud to have remained in the same neighborhood and we're proud of the revitalization that's going on in this area of Fall River, noted CEO Julie Almond. The new facility and will also accommodate specialty services by Southcoast Hospitals Group, National Physical Therapy, and Standard Pharmacy. For more information, go to HealthFirstFR.org

Beyond the Ghost Stories of the Winchester Mystery House
With its witch’s hat turrets, spiderweb windows and Gothic spires, Sarah Winchester’s 24,000-square-foot Victorian house in San Jose, California, draws tourists from around the world.
They hear tales of its construction inspired by guilt and its haunting by ghosts. But to the rifle fortune heiress, it was simply her hobby house. From 1886 to 1906, she lavished time, attention and considerable cash on the workshop where she unleashed her ambitious architectural fantasies using the most luxurious and innovative materials of her time.

Murderous Minds: Bonnie & Clyde | Outlaws Till The End...
Due to their glamorization in fiction, people are often unaware about the dark reality of Bonnie & Clyde. Far from being a loved up couple, they were in fact cold-blooded murderers who stopped at nothing to evade the law and pursued the finer things in life that they believed they deserved.

When she is kidnapped, Chandu locks horns with the Don (Vikramjeet Virk) and this gets him in direct enmity with Minister Goverdhan Rao (Madhu) and corrupt Police officer Prabhakar (Ajay). Meanwhile, one of the colleague of Chandu, Babji (Kasi Viswanath) steals some money from supermarket’s account for his daughter’s marriage but Chandu takes the blame on him. One of Chandrasekhar's family members (Sayaji Shinde), his uncle, who had turned against him in the past, goes to Viswambhar and informs him that Chandrasekhar is going to conduct necessary rites for the dead Hariprasad and it would be a good opportunity to kill him. When Viswambhar arrives at the spot along with his men to kill Chandrasekhar. it is revealed that Sivaram (Sayaji Shinde) had sided with Chandrasekhar to bring Viswambhar out of his hiding. Chandrasekhar then kills Viswambhar and his gang and then forces Mahima Roy to leave the country, warning her for the last time that if she comes back to India, she will suffer the same fate as her son-in-law. ch 16) A Peoples War
chapter 16: A People's History (Of The United States) Howard Zinn.
~
Chapter 16, A People's War?, covers World War II, opposition to it, and the effects of the war on the people. Zinn, a veteran of the war himself, notes that it was the most popular war the US ever fought, [p104] but states that this support may have been manufactured through the institutions of American society. He cites various instances of opposition to fighting (in some cases greater than those during World War I) as proof. Zinn also argues that the US's true intention was not fighting against systematic racism, since the US had this itself, such as with the Jim Crow laws (leading to opposition to the war from African-Americans). Another argument made by Zinn is that the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were not necessary, as the U.S. government had already known that the Japanese were considering surrender beforehand. Other subjects from WWII covered include Japanese American internment and the bombing of Dresden. The chapter continues into the Cold War, which Zinn writes was used by the U.S. government to increase control over the American people (for instance, eliminating such radical elements as the Communist Party) and at the same time create a state of permanent war, which allowed for the creation of the military-industrial complex. Zinn believes this was possible because both conservatives and liberals willingly worked together in the name of anti-Communism. Also covered is US involvement in the Greek Civil War, the Korean War, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, and the Marshall Plan.
