Myrtle Beach Off-Season Sights & Sounds
This video starts with some ground shots with an iPhone 7, the transitions to Mavic Pro shots from about 80 feet above the beach. I fly around the 2nd Avenue Pier, and show the Myrtle Beach Skywheel, Boardwalk, Family Kingdom Amusement Park, Splashes Oceanfront Water Park and much more. This was shot during the off-season (December 23), so the beaches are almost empty.

The Myrtle Beach area's new 1.2 mile-long Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade traverses through the sand from the 14th Avenue to 2nd Avenue Piers in Myrtle Beach. Throughout the summer, the popular Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is home to festivals and events, including Ocean Boulevard's Hot Summer Nights located at Plyler Park in the heart of the downtown area. Always a family favorite, the boardwalk provides oceanfront views of the pristine beach line, numerous shops and restaurants along its path, and is divided into three different sections:
The northernmost portion winds down from the 14th Avenue North Pier to Plyler Park.
The mid-section is located from Plyler Park to the former Pavilion Amusement Park site at 8th Avenue North and encompasses more of a carnival-like atmosphere with oceanfront dining and businesses.
The southernmost end of the boardwalk leading up to the 2nd Avenue pier has a meandering oceanfront park.
The construction of the impressive boardwalk was complete in May 2010. Did you know the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk took nine months and nearly $6.5 million to build? It is comprised of nearly 800,000 feet of lumber, and builders used around 300,000 nails, 555,000 screws and 10,000 bolts to complete the project!
Myrtle Beach is a coastal city on the east coast of the United States in Horry County, South Carolina. It is situated on the center of a large and continuous stretch of beach known as the Grand Strand in northeastern South Carolina.
Myrtle Beach is one of the major centers of tourism in the United States because of the city's warm subtropical climate and extensive beaches, attracting an estimated 14 million visitors each spring/summer/fall. As of the 2012 census, the population of the city was 28,292, with the Myrtle Beach metropolitan area population at 465,391 according to the 2013 census.

The Main Drag Through Myrtle Beach, SC, and the Amusement Park Area- June 1988
Myrtle Beach, SC has (or had) a small amusement park very close to the beach. It had a small roller coaster, ferris wheel and other assorted fair-type rides.
I recorded this on a family vacation to Myrtle Beach in late June 1988, and I have not been back since. Is the amusement park still there & operating?
From my vantage point, I had a clear view of the cars cruising down below, and soon I grew interested in recording just how many times I saw the same cars in a 10-minute period. All of the cars, of course, are no newer than 1989 models, so a peek back at what the cars looked like back then- even just 20 years ago- was a treat for me.
This video was digitized from an ancient videotape, so, yes, there are synchronization issues and audio problems.
