Mammoth Cave in Kentucky- with Fat Man's Misery
I was slightly claustrophobic before taking the Historic Tour at Mammoth Cave, the world's largest cave system. I went with a friend who was also claustrophobic and we helped each other get through this 2 mile, 300 ft deep tour. It was great!

Mammoth Cave, Kentucky: The Long Tour (4.5 miles), September 2010
I had shot this almost four years ago; I hadn't thought to put it up until today's sinkhole collapse at the Corvette Museum. I hadn't known that the system of caves in Kentucky that Mammoth is a part of extends across a good portion of the area, even under Bowling Green.
It was never taught to me in U.S. history in school, and I'm glad they're teaching it now on the tours: the first guides at Mammoth Cave were black slaves, among them Steven Bishop.
If this video seems long at 15 minutes, the actual tour took over 2 hours.
Fat Man’s Misery or Fat Man's Squeeze at the Natural Bridge in KY
This is how you get on top of the Natural Bridge in KY. To my surprise I made it through and I'm not a small person. Good thing I'm not claustrophobic. I read some where online that this passage is about 30 feet long and 20 to 24 inches wide as it varies in width in places.

Fat Man's Misery
Ryan Pelletier walking through Fat Man's Misery at Purgatory Chasm State park in Sutton, MA.
A unique natural landmark, Purgatory Chasm runs for a quarter of a mile between granite walls rising as high as 70 feet. Popular with picnickers and rock-climbers alike, the Chasm is believed to have its origin in the sudden release of dammed-up glacial meltwater near the end of the last Ice Age, approximately 14,000 years ago.
Trails lead to a wide variety of rock formations, with such romantic names as The Corn Crib, The Coffin, The Pulpit, Lovers' Leap and Fat Man's Misery.

Mammoth Caves: Historic Tour
A segment of the Historic Tour at Mammoth Caves in Cave City, Kentucky.
Historical Tour Information, Lost John & More About Stephen Bishop
In this tour, I mention some details that I left out of the previous video, such as information about Lost John, a pre-historic man found in the cave in a part of the cave where the Violet City Lantern Tour goes inside of the cave and what happened to Lost John's body. I also talk about the actual Historical Tour videos that you will see later on in the video montage that Tony shot and are assoicated with this video in this video montage. I also mention the OTHER book that Tony bought me for my birthday and it is called True Tales of Terror in the Caves of the World by Paul Jay Steward. I also talk about seeing a whole lot of flashes going on in some of Tony's upcoming videos, which is people (including myself) taking photos inside of the cave during the Historical Tour that Tony shot his videos on June 6, 2009. I also talk about Stephen Bishop and how this tour is part of the tour that Stephen Bishop also took people on back in the 1830-1840s time period.
2012 Mammoth Cave
Trip to Mammoth Cave in mid October with exceptionally warm temperatures in the 70s.
Did two cave tours: New Entrance and Historical Entrance. New Entrance includes Frozen Niagara. As hoped for mid week in Fall, tour group size was good. We only had 10 people in our Historic Entrance tour and the guide said that the day before they were nearly full with over 100. So maybe on good weather days people don't want to go in caves? I've kept some of the guide's narration in the Historic tour.
Lighting within Mammoth Cave is dim (maybe a tenth as much as Carter Caves). I also have uploaded a lower resolution version of this same video with background music.
