CAPTION: Some South Padre Island visitors say they had no idea Dolly would pack such a powerful punch so they decided to continue their vacation. A category 2 hurricane blew into town instead of the 'little tropical storm' they were expecting. They shared their Dolly stories with AP Correspondent Rich Matthews. (July 23)

Almost everyone who rode out hurricane dolly at the padre south resort hotel
has the same story...

Everyone told us it wasn't a big deal it would be a little tropiocal storm so we decided to stay…

Noone, noone expected this…

The sounds woke us up, we could hear the windows shaking and that whistling noise..

What cassandra vera didn't know is that that whistling noise was just the beginning..

The first window that broke we were looking out of it when it shattered

Within seconds hurricane dolly shredded this entire wing of the hotel, one by one breaking out window after window…
In the lobbies, and in every single room on the west side of the building..
That meant families and their pets, including four dogs and one very scared cat..
Had to spend the next five hours huddled in a dark hallway..

We figured it would be safer over here because there is no glass we have five children with us and we wanted to make sure they were ok and not get cut..

And glass was everywear, blowing around the building inside and out…

Still everyone got out alive and now they all have quote a story to tell about their night at the dolly motel..

Texas Gulf Coast 2014
Explored the Texas Hill Country and a enjoyed a week along the Gulf Coast for Dennis's 60th Birthday. Home base was Gulf Waters RV Resort, with other stops along the way down and back in Austin / New Braunfels area. Beautiful weather, gorgeous scenery, and fun, new adventures for us both. Too bad the surf was clouded the week we were there with a rare heavy wash up of seaweed, but lots of good fishing still to be had.
