Just a half block from Treviso's main plaza, you can find the Fontana delle Tette, a fountain that spews water from a woman's breasts. It's based on a 16th century Venetian stone sculpture that dispensed wine for important functions. The original now is a museum piece.

The Fountain of Tits is an ancient sculpted fountain of Treviso, which under the domination of the Republic of Venice spilled white and red wine during special celebrations. The copy of the original sculpture is located in the courtyard of the Zignoli palace in Treviso, accessible from the gallery that connects the Calmaggiore to the square of the Tower and to the Calle del Podestà. The authentic artifact, seriously damaged, was moved to a shrine under the portico of the Palazzo dei Trecento. The Fontana delle Tette was built in 1559 on the orders of Alvise Da Ponte, then Podesta of the Republic of Venice following a severe drought that struck the city of Treviso and the surrounding countryside. Originally the statue was placed inside the Palazzo Pretorio, in Via Calmaggiore. From then until 1797, the year of the fall of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, in honor of each new Podestà from the fountain gushed red wine from one breast and white wine from the other and all citizens could drink free for three days.

Join us as we walk around Treviso, Italy with James the Poodle. Our Airbnb is right in the heart of Treviso. James meets some new fans and he even gets a gratis beef bone from the butcher! We also walk through the fish market, listen to street musicians, window shop and kiss under the mistletoe (well, near the mistletoe and James isn’t much of a kisser so I take what I can get!) and Chris finds a mini Apple store. It isn’t an official Apple Store but it is an official Apple retailer. James meets a new English Bulldog puppy that must be around 8 weeks old. We finish the evening with dinner where James Brown the Poodle gets to hear James Brown the musician as dinner music. Oh and James get a special treat at the end of the meal from our server - filet mignon!

What does James think of the Fontana Delle Tette? What do you think of it? We jokingly called it the “Titty Fountain” because that is really what it translates to in English. The Fontana Delle Tette was built in 1559 as a result of a severe drought. Every fall for three days, red wine flows from one breast and white wine flows from the other breast and all citizens can drink the wine for free.

Treviso is a city in northeastern Italy with many canals. On the central Piazza dei Signori is the Palazzo dei Trecento, with battlements and vaulted arcades. The Fontana delle Tette is a 16th-century fountain that used to dispense wine. Nearby, the Duomo features a neoclassical facade, Romanesque crypt and a painting by Titian. The Civic Museums’ main site, the St. Catherine complex, has medieval frescoes.

Treviso has everything you could want from a mid-sized Veneto city: medieval city walls, lots of pretty canals, narrow cobbled streets and frescoed churches. Despite this, it receives few visitors, eclipsed by its more impressive neighbours. If you want to experience authentic Veneto life away from the tourist crowds, this is a great place to come, especially when the weather is bad as almost the entire centre is arcaded. One reason foreigners may find their way here is due to the city's rugby links. Benetton Rugby Treviso plays in the highest European competitions, and international matches are held at their stadium.

Treviso is an attractive town in the Veneto region of north-east Italy, with a population of around 80,000. From a tourist point of view, it suffers from its proximity to glamorous Venice: Treviso's meandering waterways and tranquil atmosphere just can't compete with the overwhelming charms of its neighbour. In its own right, though, Treviso is a pleasant town with several attractions worthy of a day trip. It also makes a good base for exploring the area (including Venice), or for enjoying a quiet Italian break.

One of Treviso's other notable features is its comfortable air of prosperity. The town is home to the clothing empire Benetton, which has a large store behind the Palazzo dei Trecento in the town centre. Unlike Venice, this town doesn't depend on tourism - you won't find tacky tourist shops, silly hats or bullying tour guides, just a well-off Italian town going about its daily business.

The centre of Treviso is only 5-10 minutes on foot from the railway station. Leaving the station, follow the signs to the centro - there's a convenient underpass - and walk along Via Roma, which crosses the River Sile and becomes Corso del Popolo. When this street forks, take Via XX Settembre veering to the left. This brings you to the town's civic heart, Piazza dei Signori, a pleasant square with a street running along one side and cafés with outdoor tables along the other. The dominant building here is the historic town hall, the Palazzo dei Trecento.

Treviso's smartest shopping street, Via Calmaggiore, stretches from Piazza dei Signori towards the Duomo, between the lengthy rows of arches which characterise Treviso's arcaded streets. Piazza del Duomo is a slight disappointment; the square is used as a car park, with a domineering neo-classical portico masking the historic cathedral. A series of grand make-overs has had the effect of concealing most of the evidence of the building's earlier history. Some of the layout and the domes which can be seen from outside still record the building's Romanesque incarnation, an era which is better preserved in the baptistry alongside. The most interesting part of the Duomo is the crypt, which contains extensive fragments of coloured medieval frescoes.

The main Treviso museum is the Museo di Santa Caterina, a former church and convent which has recently been restructured to house the Civic Museum, the town's art gallery and archaeological collection. Cloisters inside the entrance lead through to the church, decorated with lovely patches of fresco which have been restored to vivid colour. Tomaso da Modena's renowned St. Ursula frescoes are displayed in the centre of the church. You'll become familiar with the name of Tomaso da Modena as you tour Treviso.

TG TREVISO (venerdì 3 novembre 2017) - Abbiamo scomodato il film simbolo di Treviso per descrivere un altro simbolo di Treviso, la fontana delle tette. Finita al centro della cronaca recente, visto che lei ha la veneranda eta' di 457 anni e di storie ne ha viste, per la censura subita da facebook. Definita materiale pornografico dall'intelligenza artificiale al promotore dell'immagine, un antiquario con negozio a due passi dal duomo di Treviso che aveva deciso di utilizzarla per promuovere la sua attivita' e anche la citta'. E poco importa che si tratti di una statua e che le tette perche' di questo si parla , siano di marmo. Per il social e' tutto porno. Ma come sempre, parlatene bene parlatene male l'importante e' che ne parliate, il risultato e' stato l'arrivo di turisti e non solo per l'immancabile selfie a seno scoperto. E che' chi e' arrivato qui dalla puglia per dire la sua.

Ieri ci siamo trovati con Denise ferrasin Make-up Artist abbiamo fatto un giro con Denise abbiamo cercato negozi importanti vetrine particolari assaggiato delle cheesecake molto buone, siamo stati alla coin, chiedendo se si poteva fare un video interno risposta Non mi sembra il caso.

Passeggiare a Treviso è sempre un piacere, farlo all'imbrunire ha qualcosa di magico....un breve video girato in centro, con la Fontana delle Tette, il Calmaggiore, Piazza dei Signori, i canali e le case affrescate della Pescheria. Da non dimenticare la Mostra a Cà dei Carraresi su El Greco!

Pronti Partenza...Via - TREVISO urbs picta #documentario

In questa puntata di Pronti Partenza ...Via viene presentata TREVISO, città veneta capoluogo della Marca, territorio ricco e operoso, nonché capitale della gastronomia veneta.
Se le donne di Calmaggiore, la principale via della città, facevano innamorare gli uomini di mezza Europa, la città paragonata alla donna-dea Venere sembra nascere dall'acqua. Il centro storico è circondato da mura cinquecentesche e da canali. Il principale fiume è il tranquillo Sile che riceve le acque del Botteniga, il quale passando sotto le mura di divide nel canale dei Buranelli, nel Cagnan e nel Siletto.
Le caratteristiche vie del centro, con le case, spesso porticate, raccontano la storia della città, chiamata un tempo Urbs picta, la città dipinta. Usanza era quella di affrescare le case, a volte con semplici motivi che rievocavano la tessitura dei mattoni, per nobilitarne l'aspetto e celare i materiali poveri con cui erano costruite.
Inoltre Treviso è famosa per aver ricevuto l'appellativo di Marca gioiosa et amorosa per il piacere di vivere dei suoi abitanti, il principale simbolo di questa abbondanza è la Fontana delle Tette che elargiva dai seni vino bianco e rosso.
Indubbiamente la città è stata un importante tassello del dominio veneziano, numerosi sono anche gli edifici medioevali, dalle chiese (San Francesco, San Nicolò, Santa Lucia), ai palazzi (Palazzo dei Trecento, Palazzo della Prefettura, Loggia dei Cavalieri).
Da non dimenticare i musei e i teatri cittadini (restaurati recentemente grazie all'interessamento della fondazione Cassamarca): l'ottocentesco Teatro Comunale e il Teatro Eden in stile liberty.

L'acqua è l'elemento che caratterizza Treviso e anche le attività economiche dei trevigiani furono spesso determinate dalle acque: mulini, tintorie, pescatori. Ancora oggi le case dei Buranelli ricordano l'antica attività dei commercianti di pesce di Burano che nel XVI secolo stabilirono qui la loro dimora. Ed anche il famoso radicchio rosso trevigiano deve la sua particolarità alle acque. Caratteristica è l'Isola della Pescheria situata tra due rami del Cagnan Grande che ancora oggi ospita il mercato giornaliero del pesce. Una curiosità è la Fontana delle Tette dalla quale ora zampilla acqua fresca ma anticamente una volta all'anno per tre giorni consecutivi offriva vino bianco e rosso ai cittadini in onore del Podestà.
