2018 Japan Trip - Riding the Special DETECTIVE CONAN Train (at Yura/Conan Station in Tottori)
In Tottori (Which is about a 3 hour train ride northwest of Kyoto) there is a special town dedicated to the Detective Conan/Case Closed Anime/Manga series, where they have a bunch of statues all around the town of the characters from the show along with a manga museum dedicated to the creator of the series. Oh yeah, they have a specialty CONAN train that runs at certain times in the day as well, which we happened to catch when we went to Tottori on 7/3/18. :)

Japan's Most Terrifying Bridge: Eshima Ohashi ★ ONLY in JAPAN #33
It's been nicknamed the ROLLER COASTER BRIDGE because of it's super steep slope and appearance of being a bridge to the sky.
That's the Eshima Ohashi Bridge straddling Shimane and Tottori prefecture in Japan.
Facts about the Eshima Ohashi:
★ 1,446 meters long
★ 250 meters of continupus concrete in the center (the third longest Ramen bridge in the world!)
★ 6.1% grade slope on the Shimane Prefecture side
★ 5.1% grade on the Tottori side
★ The bridge needed to be high in the center to allow large shops to pass under.
☆ From the Shimane side, you can get the optical illusion view at the end of the street by the sea.
☆ If you have a good telephoto lens, go even further to the other side of the sea for a better shot. (Map below)
The bridge has a good pedestrian footpath on both sides of the road.
Bicycles are not allowed on the footpath so stay on the main road with the car, to the left side.
There is an observation point on the top that offers sweeping views all the way to Daisen (mountain).
The closest major access point is Yonago Station and airport on the Sea of Japan. From there, take a train to Sakaiminato and rent a bicycle or grab a taxi.
Sakaiminato is also famous for Japanese anime and the main street is like a museum of monsters!
The bridge is a 20 minute ride from Sakai Minato.
Take food with you from the station.

Tokyo Sewage Museum: More than Crap ★ ONLY in JAPAN #52
Tokyo is loaded with museums, hundreds of them from art to science. If normal museums are a bore to you or you want to try something new, let me tell you about this place! The TOKYO MUSEUM OF SEWAGE!
Here, you'll spend the day learning about Tokyo's sewer system, how it works and even get a chance to go inside the main sewer pipe suspending on a platform over the free flowing raw crap.
Perfect for families -- or maybe for the second or third date with someone special :) either way, Kodaira city is a really relaxing place to hang out, a few really cool cafes and restaurants near the station.
Best of all, this experience is free!
What are you waiting for?

All You Can Eat A5 WAGYU BEEF in Tokyo Japan!
The first time I went to Japan, I got to experience the A5 Kobe steak, and that flavor still sings with me. I knew that it probably wouldn't be possible to find a Kobe all you can eat restaurant in Tokyo, because, with me, they would be out of business in a day. However, I did find an A5 All you can eat Wagyu beef restaurant, can't beat that(:

★ Q20 How do you learn Japaneses? will be another episode :)
I learned by studying from book and going out and trying it, talking with old ladies at the Mister Donuts and with girls! Started by making flashcards for katakana and hiragana and started to read menus then ... leveled up traveling and learning kanji from place names. On and on and on ...

Japan's Biggest Dance Party: Awaodori Experience ★ ONLY in JAPAN
The world is full of amazing street parties, music festivals and carnivals! In Japan, there's this – the AWA ODORI. It's held annually in Tokushima and it's historically -- a big drunken dance party in the streets! That's right, Samurai were even banned from joining in 1671 because they were continually disgracing themselves. (It was for their own protection.) Tokushima is known for its love of dance and drinking, the jolliest place in Japan!
And this time, that's where John is -- TOKUSHIMA!
In this episode, we'll get a glimpse at this amazing street party and a few other attractions in the area.
Also watch this in Virtual Reality 360 on the new ONLY in JAPAN 360 channel:
About the AWAODORI:
It takes place from August 12 to 15 every year.
The parade and dancing starts at 6pm to 8pm.
After that, the people take it to the streets where impromptu dancing takes place all over. There are plenty of street food stands and izakaya in the area to keep you full and happy.
Attractions featured in this video:
★ Naruto Wirlpools
★ Otsuka Art Museum /
★ Onaruto Bridge /
★ Tokushima Ramen
★ Awa Puppet Theater /
Do you want to JOIN the AWAODORI / Awa Dance during the parade?
The group for the general public is called the NIWAKA REN
Anyone can join and dance!
Get there around 6:30pm for the start where they will teach you how to do the dance and a few chants.
Meeting point: Shimin Hiroba (Civic Square) in front of Tokushima City Hall and near the beginning of the Higashishinmachi Shopping Arcade, Shinmachibashi-dori Street

I went to the beef tongue restaurant in front of the Sendai station.
However, it was no vacancy.
So I decided to go to a nearby seafood Izakaya.
A fish Ikizukuri is cheap and delicious.
It was regrettable that he cannot eat a beef tongue.
However, i was able to eat a delicious fish.

Tokyo Hidden Spots | Exploring Tokyo’s Local Traditional Old Towns Yanesen(YanakaGinza,Nezu,Sendagi)
Went exploring the old Tokyo area (Yanesen) and tried the different types of Japanese street food!
Tokyo may have a very modern image to most but if you just go a little bit away from the popular tourist areas you will see a totally different side of Tokyo - a more local, quiet, tradtional side.
I love exploring and seeing this side of Tokyo because you can see and learn much more than what's on the surface.
So, if you guys come to Tokyo or live here - try escaping the crowds and get lost in the local backstreets and see what interesting stuff pops up :)
A lot of Japan's traditional side is lost in Tokyo because of what is shown on the media but I hope this video shows you guys a different side of what Tokyo has to offer!!
Places Visited
- Yanaka Ginza 谷中銀座
- Sendagi 千駄木
- Nezu 根津
Hope to show you guys more of these hidden spots in Japan!

Shibuya's Hachiko Scramble in 24 Hours ★ ONLY in JAPAN
Shibuya is Tokyo's glitziest area and Hachiko Scramble / intersection is the world's busiest crossing. No wonder it amazes visitors who come to Tokyo! It's often featured in movies that take place in Tokyo, such as Lost in Translation, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and Resident Evil: Afterlife and Retribution, as well as news broadcasts around the world.
Most people spend only a few minutes here, but in this episode, we're going to take you through a 24 hour cycle. We'll go a little deeper into what goes on here.
There are some time lapse scenes mixed in so you can see it in motion from day to night.
This show has been created and produced by John Daub. He's been living and working in Japan for over 15 years and regularly reports on a TV Show for Japan's International Channel.

JAPAN TRIP - TOKYO - KYOTO - NARA
Traveling in Japan, this video is highlight of our trip.
This was one of our best vacations. If you're about to get to japan please don't miss this spots, no travel guide will tell you about it!
KYOTO
One of the best places where to stay in Kyoto is close to the train station. (this because you will take the train a lot to get to NARA or to OSAKA). We stayed at GREEN RICH HOTEL. Clean, big rooms (for japanese standards) and well connected. (You've got a bus stop in front of the hotel)
If like us you're in love with Sushi you must get to 魚心 河原町店
in Kyoto centre. This place serves one of the best genuine sushi ever tasted by us. Don't expect 3 star michelin restaurant, we're talking about some real, authentic cuisine here.
Here's the link:
Get to Fushimi Inari. Go in the morning, have a long walk and then stop by one of the great inns you'll find long the track. Beautiful view and great udon/ramen will wait you there.
Another must is a night at a Ryokan. Choose a solution that gives you the possibility to have dinner, sleep over night and have also breakfast. You'll try one of the best food experiences Japan have to offer you. A super Kaiseki dinner and a weird kaiseki breakfast (based on salmon and rice). Just wonderful. We stayed at the NENRIMBO HOTEL and we couldn't be happier. Great staff, great place, great food. Here is a link:
Get to NISHIKI market and try there some ONIGHIRI (they have thousands kind) and try also some street food. You'll find only here a quail egg cooked inside a small octopus head, trust me, it's just delicious!
NARA
Nara is just wonderful. Get there from Kyoto by bullet train. Try to be there in the morning, all the deers will be awake and active. After lunch they are all satiated and they just sleep.
TOKYO
Tokyo will give you whatever you want. It's really difficult not to find something in this amazing city. We stayed both in Shinjuku and Nishi Shinjuku. Great zones, well connected.
Don't miss Odaiba (sometimes turists just avoid it) but it's pretty sweet and different from all the rest of the city.
Get lost in Takeshita street and in Ueno park. Whenever you see a street food stall stop by and eat. Don't be afraid and try everything!
