Cannes, France - What to do in Cannes for a day - The Top 13 Things to Do in Cannes - Cannes Travel Guide - Côte d'Azur
Cannes is one of the most beautiful cities in the French Riviera. The history of Cannes does not begin before the nineteenth century. The city is well known for its association with the rich and famous, its luxurious hotels and restaurants, and for hosting the annual Cannes Film Festival. Many of the best things - the beach, the views, the weather, the architecture and the people can all be enjoyed for free. However, there are many more things to see and do in the Mediterranean city year-round.

Beautiful Villa Le Sud, Cannes, France - John Taylor Luxury Real Estate
Cannes on the French Riviera
We are exploring more of the beautiful French Riviera traveling by train from Nice to Cannes. Touring strategies can be summed up in a nutshell: walk from the train station to the waterfront, stroll along the shore to the Old Town, eat and shop, then meander back to the station through the pedestrian area. It’s an easy four-block walk from the Cannes train station to the shore where you can have a peek at the high life exemplified in the extraordinary hotel palaces lining the grand Boulevard de la Croisette. Cannes is one of the most famous of the towns along the French Riviera, especially noted because of the International Film Festival held here every year in the month of May. The sidewalks all around the festival hall are dimpled with many impressions from the big stars – their handprints and footprints and signatures. They flock here during the festival to show off and promote their latest flicks. The main boulevard of Cannes is the Croisette, which is like any luxury Boulevard in Europe – it’s lined with the big fancy hotels. And there's the beach on one side and a row of luxury shops -- you’ve got Louis Vuittin, and Valentino, Chanel and so on, and those top hotels. So this is one of the great neighborhoods of the city that you just absolutely must come and spend some time at.
We continue walking a few more blocks on this beautiful Rue d'Antibes. It's just a great street and yet you might easily miss it in your visit to Cannes because it's not that waterfront boulevard with the great hotels and the Film Festival Hall, and it's far from the old town about a mile down the other side – so be sure to look for this street because you'll enjoy taking a stroll here. By this point you have seen all the main highlights of Cannes except for the Old Town which is up on the hill. Now we are entering the old town of Cannes. It's just up on this hill at the end of the road, overlooking the boat harbor. You don't want to miss this, so when you are in Cannes be sure to walk down to the end of town, it just takes 15 to 20 minutes to walk down here, and have a little stroll through old Cannes. The Old Town’s pedestrian zone gently rises via staircases and the upward sloping pathway of Rue Saint-Antoine to the top of the small hill, and that provides a great view looking back across the boat harbor to the beaches, elegant hotels, marina and Festival Hall down below.

Exploring CANNES, FRANCE | Tourist Heaven Or Hell?
Cannes, a City in the French Riviera, Home of the Cannes Film Festival
Cannes is a city located in the French Riviera. It is a busy tourist destination and host of the annual Cannes Film Festival and Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. Once a small fishing village, Cannes is now a glamorous and expensive seaside town considered to be one of the social hubs of Europe.
Cannes moment to shine arrives in May as the venue for the Cannes Film Festival, entertaining the rich and famous. During the festival, fans can see actors, celebrities, and directors up close and in person on the famous steps of the Palais des Festivals at the end of La Croisette.
Renowned for its luxury boutiques and designer fashion, forgetting your credit card would be a big mistake when visiting Cannes. The shops in Cannes are concentrated between La Croisette and rue d'Antibes - a distance easily covered on foot. Here you'll find all the luxury boutiques you could possibly desire as well as other shops selling products at a more affordable price range. The old town has any number of shops selling souvenirs as well.
Although its nightlife, casinos and high end restaurants give Cannes a feel of exclusivity, Cannes does have alternatives to suit all types of budgets. Tourists can check out the beauty and architecture of Le Suquet, with its cobbled streets and breathtaking views, or sit at street side tables and enjoy the favoured hobby of people watching up and down the lovely marina.
The area around Cannes has developed into a high-tech cluster. The technopolis of Sophia Antipolis lies in the hills beyond Cannes. The Film Festival is a major event for the industry. There is an annual television festival in the last week in September. The economic environment is based on tourism (business fairs), trade and aviation.
