The ranch is located 110 miles from Amarillo, 150 miles from Wichita Falls, and 180 miles from Oklahoma City. This property features remarkable, year-round live water on the ranch, with over 2.5 miles of Wolf Creek flowing through this outstanding property. Large volumes of cool, clear water flow off the high plains and through the ranch which provides great fishing for bass, catfish, and pan fish along its winding banks and deeper pools. Bear Creek also flows into Wolf Creek from the north and a smaller cottonwood lined tributary feeds the creek from the east, forming a game rich area for hunters. In fact, sportsman will encounter great populations of Whitetail and Mule deer, as well as excellent numbers of both Bobwhite and Blue quail. A nice population of Rio Grande turkey also call Wolf Creek home, with excellent roosting sights throughout the towering cottonwoods. Several feeder setups provide great areas to view or hunt game. A newly cultivated and fenced food plot provides an additional draw for wildlife. Dramatic elevation changes provide stunning panoramas that range from an elevation of around 2,000 feet along the higher points and roll toward the creek bottoms approximately 150-200 feet below. The property consists of mesquite flats, chinaberry and hackberry groves with wild plum thickets throughout, providing perfect cover and food sources for wildlife. Native grasses such as gramma and side oats also flourish in the sandy loam soils, providing excellent cattle grazing as well. A nice set of pipe working pens and corrals are located near the ranch entrance for convenience. Three water wells also supplement more remote areas of the property. Two drainage ponds and several other wet weather impoundments also provide cattle and wildlife with additional water resources. The ranch has also been cross-fenced to allow rotational grazing that has typically grazed around 125 pairs. If grass is abundant, the owner also runs some yearlings in the growing months. Two 40’ storage containers have been set up in a secluded area near the entrance to provide storage and lodging for ranch activities. An older barn and pens are located along the south bank of Wolf Creek. Texas Information and Facts
Some facts about Texas
Climate of Texas
Texas's climate varies widely, from arid in the west to humid in the east. The huge expanse of Texas encompasses several regions with distinctly different climates: Northern Plains, Trans-Pecos Region, Texas Hill Country, Piney Woods, and South Texas. Generally speaking, the eastern half of Texas is humid subtropical, while the western half is semi-arid (with some arid regions). While snowfall is more common across northern Texas than in its southern sections, snow has fallen heavily near and along the middle and upper Texas coastline.
Texas ranks first in tornado occurrence with an average of 139 per year. Tropical cyclones can affect the state, either from the Gulf of Mexico or from an overland trajectory originating in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Those originating from the Gulf of Mexico are more likely to strike the upper Texas coast than elsewhere. Significant floods have occurred across the state throughout history, both from tropical cyclones and from stalled weather fronts.

Texas Independence Day!
If Texas is to withstand the tests presented in the 21st Century, our commitment to life, liberty and property must be as unwavering today as was the commitment of Houston, Ruck, Childress, Ruiz, Zavalla and Navarro on March 2, 1836.
Autumn in Leakey Texas 2011
Leakey is a very popular vacation spot for many in Texas located on the very western edge of the beloved Texas Hill Country. The majority of the vacationers come to Tube the beautiful Rio Frio River, but most have never seen the beauty of Leakey in the fall. Take a look and see for yourself.
Shawn Shoemaker and myself got up early that morning to beat the sun rise at Garner State Park. It was cold and crisp, no wind, and thought the conditions were going to be perfect, and we were not disappointed. As you watch the beginning you'll see the luminosity increase as the video progresses.
The Dancing Vapor Funnels, I call them were fascinating. This video was shot right at day break. The temperature was 27 degrees, however the day before it was 70. So the water was still warm in relation to the air, which created the fog. The rising heat from the sun impinging on the water created the columns of swirling Dancing Vapor Funnels. Pay close attention to the beginning of this segment and you will see two funnels dancing. As the funnel on the right crosses the path of the other, it dissipates. It looks as if it tripped over the funnel moving left to right. Very curious! This portion of the video was taken at the damn in Garner State Park.
The video taken at Frio River Cabins. There are many beautiful spots on this river and this one tops my list. We have rented cabins there for years and the owners have become dear friends of ours.
The segment titled Fall, just caught my eye for some reason. I wanted to capture Fall, and I noticed that the leaves were almost literally raining from the trees above.
To this day, I haven't been able to time the peak of the color at Lost Maples State Park. We were at least two weeks too early. Even still we got some pretty shots. One day though. One Day.
Deep in the Heart of Texas - Yeehaw!
This is the song Deep in the Heart of Texas with pictures and lyrics. The song came from an old Disney Cowboy songs cassette - I can't find it digitally anywhere.
I created this video to help my little preschool students sing along with the song for our rodeo week celebration, and decided to add the lyrics for the teachers or any other adults who might join us.
