Galveston Island Brewing #8 Galveston Island Brewing
Mark is the owner of Galveston Island Brewing. He started the brewery a little more than 3 years ago with one thing on his mind, which is delicious Island brewed beer. They have a constant production of tap room beer and just recently started canning some of their fan favorite sellers. Some include the Tiki Wheat, Citra Mellow, and Hefen-A (summer seasonal). Mark's beers are found all over Galveston Island as well as some places on the mainland. There are many special events hosted at the Brewery that are family friendly and have lots of food and fun. Galveston Island Brewing just got rated by yelp as the 13th best brewery in America. Check it out the address is 8423 Stewart Rd Galveston, TX 77554 United States.

Just south east of Houston Galveston is a pretty big beach town on the gulf coast. I had anticipated to find a lot of abandonment here, but that was a false prophecy. In fact I could only find one location with my efforts, and worth my efforts it was! I'm talking about the Flagstaff Brewery. This place was everything I could have asked for. Just a block in eye shot from the local police station, access to the building was far easier that I could have anticipated and I was at ease while exploring it, a luxury I am rarely afforded. Apparently this monster has been vacant since 1981. Since then its been places on the National Registry of Historic Places. So here it will probably stand for the foreseeable future. I came across an interesting tag in the building that read “Too weird to live, too rare to die” I have to wonder if the artist was speaking about themselves or the building itself.
My project BARE USA is a nation wide photography project that contrast natural beauty with man-made decay. This contrast is achieved by photographing nude models in abandoned locations.

The Texas Bucket List - Save the World Brewing in Marble Falls
How do you meet the world’s greatest needs with your greatest passion? David and Quynh Rathkamp had an answer to this—brewing beer.
Texas Transportation Co
The Texas Transportation Company was a trolley powered freight line with 1.3 miles of track in San Antonio Texas, which served the Pearl and Lone Star Breweries. Pearl bought up Lone Star, leaving Pearl as the only customer. In 1999, Pabst bought Pearl and announced plans to close both the brewery and the rail line, which prompted a visit to Texas to catch the last days of this rare type of freight railroading. Our visit was a few weeks before the final run and we caught a trip to the interchange with plant execs wanting a ride before the end. They made another trip with an empty car, then went back to the plant to do some switching. The railroad ceased running in June, 2000 and the plant closed the following January, bringing an end to an era in Texas railroading. All of the rails and trolley line have since been removed, but motor #2 is plinthed near the plant site.
Pearl Brewery -- Texas Transportation Co. No. 1, San Antonio, Texas
A short Super-8mm film clip that I took on September 3rd, 1980. With me were a good friend and Missouri Pacific Locomotive Engineer Joe Covert and his wife Diane. The action took place in the area around the Pearl Beer Brewery (San Antonio Brewing Association) and Southern Pacific Railroad's East Yard. The highlight was getting some footage of electric locomotive Texas Transportation Company No. 1, which was built by Baldwin and Westinghouse in December, 1917, as Monongahela-West Penn 2000. This railroad later became the City Lines of West Virginia in 1943 when the power operation and the traction operation were separated. After abandonment in 1947 the locomotive was then sold to the Kansas City Kaw Valley RR as their 504 in April, 1948. When the Kaw Valley was abandoned in 1953, the locomotive came to San Antonio and was renumbered 1.
The film opens with me filming Joe Covert, (who unfortunately, passed away July 12th, 2005) who protests that I am wasting film on him. Later you can see Joe's wife, Diane, waving me on to hurry on into the gates to continue filming No. 1 and crew switching.
In is interesting to note the operation of a submarine switch, and also the obvious safety violations such as using the footboard on the forward end of the locomotive to retrieve a red flag, crossing very close in front of equipment moving and a few other things that don't meet up to modern safe work practices. Apparently, they got the job done on a daily basis OK!!!

Parts of Galveston, Texas, have begun to flood from Tropical Depression Imelda. The storm is dumping rain over southeastern Texas and is expected to keep doing so for a couple of days as it moves inland. Heavy rain and street flooding were reported in parts of coastal Texas as Tropical Depression Imelda moved across the state, and on Wednesday evening, a confirmed tornado left some structures damaged east of Houston.
