MEDHOS ASHRAM -GARH JUNGLE- Durgapur-India

This age old Ashram is a religious place of Bengal, situated inside dense forest of Garh Jungle aside Shyamrupa temple near the river Ajoy about 20 km north eastern part of Durgapur steel City. It is It said Maharshi Medhos Muni founded and stayed in the ashram abt 1000yrs ago.
The surroundings of the ashram was once fortified by the garh of Ichhai Ghosh the Gope ruler of this area whose sign still one can be observed.

It is also known as the Dharma Garh of Raja Surath and is located towards the eastern end of Durgapur. It is believed to be one of the oldest places of the country. In fact, it is the same place where Raja Surath performed Durga Puja after being instructed by Mahamuni Medhas.

গড় জঙ্গল অভিযান || Garh Jungle expedition

কাঁকসার ঘন গড় জঙ্গলের মাঝে অজয় নদের ধার ঘেঁষে মাথা তুলে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে একটি উঁচু মন্দির। ‘ইছাই ঘোষের দেউল’ হিসাবে সেটি পরিচিত। প্রচলিত কাহিনী বলে, গৌড়ের রাজা তখন দেবপাল। আর কাঁকসার জঙ্গল ঘেরা ত্রিষষ্টিগড়ের সামন্তরাজা কর্ণসেন। তাঁর আশ্রিত সোম ঘোষের পুত্র ইছাই ঘোষ ত্রিষষ্টিগড়ের মধ্যেই আলাদা ঢেকুরগড় স্থাপন করে নিজেকে স্বাধীন হিসাবে ঘোষণা করেন। যুদ্ধ বাধে কর্ণসেনের সঙ্গে। কর্ণসেন হেরে যান। জয়ের নিশান হিসাবে ইছাই ঘোষ গড়ে তোলেন এই সুউচ্চ শিখর দেউল। ভারতীয় পুরাতত্ব সর্বেক্ষণের মতে, দেউলটি গড়ে তোলা হয়েছিল মধ্যযুগের শেষদিকে। এই দেউল থেকেই জঙ্গলের মধ্য দিয়ে পথ চলে গেছে ইছাই ঘোষের আরাধ্যা দেবী শ্যামরূপার মন্দিরে। একে বলে শ্যামরূপার গড়। তবে কয়েকটি সিঁড়ি আর মাটির ঢিবি ছাড়া গড়ের আর কোনও চিহ্ন নেই। আর শ্যামরূপার মন্দিরটি নতুন। দেবী এখানেই পূজিতা হন। আসল আকর্ষণ পথ। দেউল থেকে ৪ কিলোমিটার ঘন জঙ্গলের মধ্য দিয়ে। এ পথে পথ ভুল করার আশঙ্কা পদে পদে।

According to Sri Sri Chandi , King Surath meet to boisya samadhi at Ashram of Medhas. This Ashram was established in Garh Jungle.[1][6] King Surath and Boisya Samadhi learned Devi Mahatmya from Medhas in this place. Surath organized a durgapuja here in springtime. According to Shri Shri Chandi and Markandeya Purana this Durga Puja, which was organized in Garh Jungle, was first Durgapuja of the world.

GARH JUNGLE DURGAPUR(Durga Puja 2019)

Garh Jungle near Deul Park is located in Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal. The place is historic as well as mythological. If you consider the mythological thing this place is a sight of Satya Yuga where Raja Surath, Samadhi Baisya and Medhas Muni were there.
The historical connection of this place is tied up with the Pala and Sena dynasties of Bengal. Raja Laxman Sen established the famous Shyamrupa/ Shyamarupa Temple inside Garh Jungle. Famous poet Joydev(writer of Geetgovindam) also visited this place.
Icchai Ghosh was a ruler of Rarh Banga during Sena dynasties. You can see the temple of Icchai Ghosh near Ajay River at Deul Park.
Apart from these this place is covered up with dense forest. People who love to spend a few days in natural green can come here and check out this place. thanks, FMI

Durgapuja in Shyamrupa Mandir is outstanding. The road from Deul Park to the temple is very narrow and you can feel the jungle all along the route. The 1000 years old Durgapuja was started by Ichai Ghosh and here the Devi is known as Shyamrupa.

One can catch a sight of folk singers along the banks of river Ajoy singing their soulful songs. A resort has been built near the park in order to cater to the needs of the tourists. The resort is sprawling green lawns and various fun rides for the kids.The Park is an ideal place to take a break from the day to day life.
