Transport ministry urges local airlines to implement two-person cockpit rule
국
In the wake of the tragic Germanwings crash,... many airlines are thinking about implementing a two-person cockpit rule… to prevent similar tragedies from happening again.
Korean airliners are following suit,... and the rule will be in effect... on all carriers soon.
Kim Hyun-bin has this story.
In Korea, the latest Germanwings incident prompted the nation′s transport ministry to release an official notice urging local airliners to implement the two-person cockpit rule.
Out of the seven local airliners, only two, Korean Air and Jeju Air, had been practicing the two-person cockpit rule before the Germanwings crash.
″Korean Air implemented the two-person cockpit rule in April 2014 to enhance flight safety measures.″
Other companies are now adopting the policy.
″We will implement the measure and have two people in the cockpit at all times. If one of the pilot leaves the room, a flight attendant will take his place.″
In addition to the two-person cockpit rule, airliners have also started looking more carefully at the mental health of their pilots.
German prosecutors have confirmed that the Germanwings co-pilot, Andreas Lubitz, was treated for suicidal tendencies before getting his pilot′s license.
Lufthansa has now admitted that Lubitz told their training school about his bout with depression.
However, the German airliner says Lubitz passed the annual recertification exam and was deemed physically fit to fly without restrictions, but the airliner noted that the test did not cover mental health.
What measures are local airliners taking to check a pilot′s mental status?
″Under the domestic aviation law, pilots need to receive a physical and mental-health examination at least once a year. We have been operating a medical center to examine our pilots′ health and mental status.″
Meanwhile, most Korean airlines have now put the two-person rule into effect.
However, Asiana Airlines and its subsidiary, Air Busan, will adopt the measure early this month.

Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) : A base for traveling major cities in Thailand
There are two international airports in Bangkok. One is Don Mueang Airport and the other is Suvarnabhumi Airport. Don Mueang has been built for a long time compared to Suvarnabhumi, and there are many aspects that are lacking in various points, but they are still well managed. When you travel to major cities in Thailand, you will frequently use the airline routes to Don Mueang Airport.

Rain to turn to snow overnight
밤부터 비 눈으로, 다시 추워져
Over 100 international and domestic flights to and from Busan's Gimhae International Airport were delayed or cancelled due to the heavy rain that started yesterday. For more on that and the weather updates, let's go over to Lee Jee-hyun at the weather center. Jee-hyun, safety comes first of course but, over it must have been a hectic day at the airport, not to mention a big inconvenience to hundreds of passengers.
What's more, the pilots of Korean Air, the nation's largest airline, went on strike today, disrupting flight schedules even more.
But now that the rain is dissipating, we have freezing temperatures to worry about, topped with snow. The central regions could see up to 10 centimeters of snowfall tomorrow with a heavy snow advisory being issued for the mountainous regions in Gangwon-do Province.
So we can only expect the mercury to plunge in the upcoming hours, ...
with Seoul to have a morning low of minus 3 degrees Celsius while Daejeon starts out at zero degrees.
Negative readings will remain under partially sunny conditions throughout the day Seoul, with the afternoon rising to minus 1 degree Celsius.
That's Korea for you, here's look at the weather conditions around the world.

It holds sub-provincial administrative status. The administrative area houses 14,047,625 inhabitants: 7,415,590 within the municipality's nine urban districts[5] and 6,632,035 in the surrounding satellite towns and counties' urban, suburban and rural area. In 2006, it was named China's 4th-most liveable city by China Daily.
Air China:
Air China Limited (simplified Chinese: 中国国际航空公司; traditional Chinese: 中國國際航空公司; literally: China International Airlines Company, colloquially known as 国航/國航, SEHK: 0753, LSE: AIRC, SSE: 601111) is the flag carrier and one of the major airlines of the People's Republic of China, with its headquarters in Shunyi District, Beijing. Air China's flight operations are based in Beijing Capital International Airport. In 2013, the airline carried 51 million domestic and international passengers with an average load factor of 81%.
On 10 August 1993, Air China Flight 973, a Boeing 767 was hijacked after takeoff from Beijing en route to Jakarta. A 30-year-old Chinese man passed a handwritten note to a flight attendant demanding to be flown to Taiwan. He threatened that his accomplice would destroy the aircraft unless he was flown to Taiwan. The aircraft was flown to Taipei International Airport, where the hijacker surrendered.
On 10 October 1998, Air China Flight 905, a Boeing 737-300 flying the Beijing-Kunming-Yangon route was hijacked by its pilot to Chiang Kai-shek International Airport in Taiwan. The pilot and his wife were apprehended by Taiwanese authorities. The passengers and the crew were unharmed, and the aircraft returned to mainland China later that day.
On 15 April 2002, Air China Flight 129, a Boeing 767-200ER from Beijing to Busan, South Korea, crashed into a hill while trying to land at Gimhae International Airport during inclement weather, killing 129 of the 166 people on board. This is Air China's first and only fatal accident to date.
On 10 June 2013, an unidentified airborne object collided with Air China Flight 4307 flying from Chengdu to Guangzhou as the 757 was climbing through 26000 ft. The flight returned to Chengdu for safety reasons, and post flight examinations revealed that the unknown object caused severe damage to the composite radar dome of the aircraft.
Shanghai:
Shanghai is the largest Chinese city by population and the largest city proper by population in the world. It is one of the four direct-controlled municipalities of the People's Republic of China, with a population of more than 24 million as of 2014. It is a global financial center, and a transport hub with the world's busiest container port. Located in the Yangtze River Delta in East China, Shanghai sits on the south edge of the mouth of the Yangtze in the middle portion of the Chinese coast. The municipality borders the provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang to the north, south and west, and is bounded to the east by the East China Sea.
For centuries a major administrative, shipping, and trading town, Shanghai grew in importance in the 19th century due to European recognition of its favorable port location and economic potential. The city was one of five opened to foreign trade following the British victory over China in the First Opium War while the subsequent 1842 Treaty of Nanking and 1844 Treaty of Whampoa allowed the establishment of the Shanghai International Settlement and the French Concession. The city then flourished as a center of commerce between east and west, and became the undisputed financial hub of the Asia Pacific in the 1930s. However, with the Communist Party takeover of the mainland in 1949, trade was reoriented to focus on socialist countries, and the city's global influence declined. In the 1990s, the economic reforms introduced by Deng Xiaoping resulted in an intense re-development of the city, aiding the return of finance and foreign investment to the city.
Shanghai is a popular tourist destination renowned for its historical landmarks such as The Bund, City God Temple and Yu Garden as well as the extensive Lujiazui skyline, many skyscrapers, and major museums including the Shanghai Museum and the China Art Museum.
