Things to see in Vienna!
Vienna is a city that straddles both the past and present with ease. No other city effortlessly combines a rich history that has left behind such remarkable gifts as the gothic Stephansdom with contemporary gems such as the Leopold Museum or the Museums Quarter.
TOP THINGS TO SEE:
State Opera House - Vienna is famous for opera, and the Vienna State Opera is the place to see it.
Museums Quarter and its museums - Some of the greatest art in the world, but especially from notable Austrians like Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele, is to be found in the many museums here.
The Hofburg Palace and its Museums - The main residence of the Habsburgs today has special museums like the Spanish Riding School and apartments of the Empress Sisi
Schonbrunn Palace - The summer house of the Habsburg Emperors, with beautiful gardens to explore
Prater Amusement Park - Make like Orson Welles and ride the oldest Ferris Wheel in the world, or just enjoy a stroll on a sunny day.
FOODS TO TRY:
Wienerschnitzel - Literally: Viennese schnitzel- a very thin piece of pork that is crumbed and fried, normally served alongside potatoes. You might want to wash it down with an Austrian Almdudler, kind of like a cream soda.
HIDDEN GEM:
The Austrian National Library - One of the world’s major libraries, former library of the Habsburg court- what more could you ask for? Look for the two beautiful Venetian baroque globes, and the library employees slipping through concealed passages hidden behind bookcases.

VIENNA, Austria || All the places you need to see in 2019 !
01-03 February 2019
Our week-end in Vienna !
I especially loved visiting the National Library.
I'd really recommend as well the view from the top of the cathedral. Entrance costs 5 euros, then you have to go up 314 steps in a very very narrow staircase to the top ! not the easiest thing but the view is worth it ! :)
I would also recommend Cafe central, though the line is always long, rotation is pretty fast. It's definitely better than the Klimt Cafe where the service and drinks were quite poor.
We were staying in family run hotel called Hotel Lucia, we loved it !
For our first lunch we ate at a place called Limoni's, lots of locals have lunch there and it's really really good ! I could find a few vegetarian options on the menu. For dinner we ate in a pub where I could find some local vegetarian dishes as well.

Vienna: City Of Emperors, Art, Beauty, Charm, Sights Of Vienna
In Vienna, the coffee house isn’t just a hangout: it’s an institution. Lingering over a newspaper with a pastry and a strong espresso drink is, officially a Viennese cultural pastime. Walk off your slice of Sachertorte with a self-guided tour of the city’s stunning traditional, Secessionist, and modern architecture, such as the Imperial Palace, the State Opera House, the Kirche am Steinhof, or the Kunsthistorisches Museum, an exercise in ornate geometry.
Vienna is a magnificent city and deciding which attractions to include in this guide was not easy. You should know that there is more to say about - and more to see in this city!
Your visit mus include:
Schönbrunn Palace - The Palace with its surrounding buildings and the huge park is one of the most significant cultural monuments in Austria. It was generally used as the summer residence of the Habsburg rulers.
Belvedere Palace - The two magnificient palaces on the Belvedere grounds lie in the middle of a splendid park. They were constructed for Prince Eugene of Savoy by J.L. von Hildebrandt, a famous Baroque architect.
Naschmarkt - There is quite a number of markets where you can buy fresh vegetable and asorted tidbits. But Naschmarkt is arguably more than that: it is a Viennese institution dating back to the 16th century.
Prater park - The Prater is Vienna's most popular fun fair. Here one can enjoy a great view from the giant Ferris wheel, and one can do sports and relax in the area of forest land and fields.
Anchor Clock - The Anchor Clock was built between 1911 and 1917 after the plans of the painter Franz von Matsch. It is situated on the oldest square of Vienna and represents a typical Art Nouveau design.
The architectural image of the city is dominated by the Ringstrasse, a four kilometre long boulevard which encircles the centre of the city. Here you can catch on a bus to have a wonderful tour around this boulevard.
St. Stephen's Cathedral dominates the centre of Vienna and not far away behind the State Opera House, is the venerable Hotel Sacher, with its old Viennese coffee house.
Johann Strauss, the Vienna Boys' Choir, Lipizzaner horses and Heurige wine, Vienna is a city of irresistible charm!

The Wiener Werkstätte (or Vienna Workshops) produced a numbered series of postcards from 1907 until the end of World War I.
