Bara bhuya chies isa khan and musa khan and prior to them some independent sultans of bengal had their capital at sonargaon besides the city and the miscellaneous picturesque establishments of state like royal palaces court buildings mint etc. muslim rulers also erected beautiful mosques madrasahs mausolea khanqas bridges wells and others edifices of diverse nature and uses of all these the stone built tomb of sultan ghiyashuddin azam shah is specially remarkable this single domed mosque before us built by mulla hizbar khan in 1519 a.d is the second important erection of sonargaon and one among innumerable mosque that came up throughout the length and breath of the sultans territory. The beautiful arabesque design of muslim traditions on bricks and stones of the mosque is comparable to ornamentation found on monuments of gaur pandua and others centers of bengal. decoration will survive in west wall particularly in three mihrabs. the wonderful central mihrab constructed with black basalts displays charming decoration on the whole the decorative elements of the mosque are supers and pleasing to look at and disturbed in symmetrical manner. due to lack of proper maintanance and long neglect or through some unknown natural cause much of the mosque particularly the mosque particularly the major part of the dome and walls of north east and south sides collapsed and the mosque was abandoned and was replaced by the neighboring single domed mosque which was constructed in 1116 a. h/ 1705 a.d during the reign of the mughal emperor awrangzib alamgir since than the muslims of the locality have been offering their prayer in the latter mosque.
this mosque of housain shahas period was declared protected under the antiquity act in 1963 and the directorate of archaeology fully restricted in its original features.
The Goaldi mosque is a good example of the 'enclosed square type' mosque of Bengal that is distinguished by a cubical prayer chamber with corner towers and entrances on all sides except the qibla wall. A single dome caps the mosque; engaged ribbed turrets define the four corners; and the cornice is gently sloped. Circular corner towers are a deviation from the usual octagonal corner towers. This is the only example of circular corner towers in the Dhaka district. Accentuating the cornice is a row of small niches with floral motifs inside.
The east facade has three arched openings, embellished on either sides with rectangular panels of delicate relief work in the form of a niche with an ornamental hanging lamp motif. The north and south facades similarly display three arches, though only the center arch is open while the two side arches are blind.
The cubical prayer chamber measures 7.57 m and the walls are 2 m thick. The dome is carried on squinches that spring from the tops of stone pilasters, two on each wall. The qibla wall has three mihrabs. The use of black basalt for the central mihrab was a common practice during the sixteenth century. It is decorated with beautiful, intricate patterns composed of an ornamental hanging lamp motif. The two flanking mihrabs are decorated in similar fashion but instead of black basalt they are made of brick and fine terra cotta work. Lotus motifs are found carved in the spandrels and are closely related to the lotuses held by the Hindu god, Surya.
Dhaka The City of Mosques by NURUL_AMIN (Shahriar_Kamal)
Dhaka is the capital and largest city of Bangladesh. With its colorful history and rich cultural traditions, Dhaka is known the world over as the city of mosques and muslin. Its fame attracted travelers from far and near throughout the ages. Today it has grown into a mega city of about 8.5 million people, with an area of about 1353 sq. km. becoming the hub of the nation's industrial, commercial, cultural, educational and political activities.
Archaeological and circumstantial evidence suggest that the city that we know today for its rich Islamic heritage, created in the 15th century, had far more ancient foundations.
The district today is said to contain over 300 mosques, which, apparently somewhat superfluous to the relatively sparsely inhabited area, may also raise questions about the number of original mosques for what would seem to have been a not especially numerous, original Muslim population.

Built in 1705 by Abdul Hamid during the reign of Mughal emperor Arunzeb, the graceful, single-domed Goaldi Mosque is the most impressive of the few extant monuments of the old capital city, and a good example of pre-Mughal architecture. There is another mosque near it which was built in 1519.[2]
This mosque is one of the few remnants from the Sultanate period in Sonargaon, during the reign of Sultan Hussain Shah in 925 Hijri (1519AD). It was built by Mulla Hizabar Akbar Khan in the early 16th century, during the reign of Alauddin Husain Shah at a place called Goaldi - half a mile northeast of Panam village in Sonargaon. Sonargaon was the administrative center of medieval Muslim rulers of East Bengal. It became as the capital of Bengal during Isa Khan's ruling. The area falls under present-day Narayanganj District, Bangladesh. This mosque is more elegant and ornate in comparison to the earlier Sultanate mosques at Bagerhat.

Goaldi Mosque one of the very few surviving medieval monuments in the city of sonargaon. About six km northwest of the little township of Panam, near Sonargaon in Narayanganj district, there are two such precariously surviving old single-domed mosques in the sequestered hamlet of Goaldi, virtually hidden behind thick bamboo brakes and clusters of mango and jackfruit tree groves.
Goaldi Mosque, Sonargaon
One of the mosques was built in 1116 AH / 1705 AD by a certain Abdul Hamid, during the reign of Mughal Emperor aurangzeb. Of late, it has been extensively renovated and enlarged. The other one, close to it in the same village, is also a single-domed square mosque with 4.8m sides, built according to an inscription by Mulla Hizabar Akbar Khan on 15 Shaban in 925 AH/ August 1519 AD, during the reign of Sultan Alauddin husain shah, son of Sayyid Ashraf ul Husaini. cunningham procured an estampage of the epigraph and forwarded it to the asiatic society of Bengal. blochmann deciphered this Arabic inscriptions (now lost) and edited the text with a translation in 1873 AD.

Gorar Mosque(গোড়ার মসজিদ), it is another mosque from the Barobazar(বারোবাজার). In my opinion, this is the most popular mosque among all from that ancient city. The name of the mosque came from Gorai(গোরাই), who was a dorbesh(দরবেশ). It is assumed that Hosen Shah(হোসেন শাহ) or his son Nosrat Shah(নসরত শাহ) built this mosque. The mosque has a large pond at the eastern side of it.
This mosque has four domes at the top. One is larger and other threes are smaller and at second row. This mosque has the similarities with many other mosques from Bangladesh. From those, I have visited the Atia Mosque, and the Khania Dighi Mosque earlier of this year.
Lot of visitors use to come at this Gorar Mosque(গোড়ার মসজিদ), though all are not tourists. They only go there for making a wish, or after completion of their wish. This is kind of blind obsession. Sometimes they also sacrifice hen, donate money, etc from that obsession.
This mosque is very near to Baro Bazar(বারো বাজার) of Kaliganj(কালীগঞ্জ). Also it is just beside the road. GPS coordinate of the Gorar Mosque(গোড়ার মসজিদ) is (23°18'11.15N, 89° 8'31.69E).
