Love'em or hate'em, CSX's fleet of General Electric ES40DC and ES44AH locomotives are the modern face of the railroad. The North End-Subdivison between Rocky Mount, NC and Richmond, VA is a stronghold for these 12-cylinder eco-friendly beasts, as most thru trains have to negotiate the cab-signaled RF&P subdivision to the north. One thing is for sure-when the trains are running with the kind of frequency we saw on this day, its hard to complain about the power!

A pair of SD70MACs lead a short Q406 across the state line(just around the curve in the first shot), over Fountain Creek(1:45), and through the intermediate signals at A71.6, just before rounding Frailey's curve alongside US301 near Skippers. The lead SD70MAC's lost its CSX nose lettering, while the trailing unit's paint is still fresh.

Presented by Cathy Downs (Bring Back the Monarchs to Texas) and Karen Oberhauser (University of Minnesota Monarch Lab). October 4, 2016.
Join Dr. Karen Oberhauser, a scientist from the University of Minnesota, and Cathy Downs, a natural science educator from central Texas for this interactive webinar (for youth audiences). You will learn about the amazing monarch butterflies and their unique long-distance migration. From their milkweed host plants to parasitoids that ail them, we will explore the complex life history of the species. In addition, you will learn how to get involved in your own school or backyard to help monarchs, and benefit many other wildlife species at the same time! Listen carefully, and don't forget to take notes; we will have a few pop quiz questions throughout the webinar!
Presenters:
Cathy Downs (Bring Back the Monarchs to Texas) and Karen Oberhauser (University of Minnesota Monarch Lab) Bios: Cathy was born and raised in New England and retired to Comfort, TX in 2004 after a 30 year career owning and operating her own retail businesses. She is a Texas Master Naturalist with the Hill Country Chapter and a Monarch Watch Conservation Specialist with Monarch Watch. She chairs the Bring Back the Monarchs to Texas program for Native Plant Society of Texas and is a certified Monarch Larval Monitoring Project educator. Cathy works with Texas Wildlife Association’s Distance Learning Program broadcasting “The Magic of Monarchs” and conducts Teacher Trainings for “Monarchs in the Classroom”. With these resources Cathy has provided over 65,000 children and teachers with monarch education.
Dr. Karen Oberhauser is a Professor in the Dept. of Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology at the University of Minnesota, where she and her students conduct research on several aspects of monarch butterfly ecology. In addition to the research component of her lab, Karen founded Monarchs in the Classroom, a program of the Monarch Lab which provides opportunities for formal and informal educators to be guided in instructing their students to learn science using the natural world. Karen is also co-chair of the Monarch Joint Venture steering committee.

Steve Bunker Dec. 7, 2003 Oral History Interview
Steve Bunker's background and a major love is the sea. Also a history buff, he originally came to Baltimore to help build a Baltimore Clipper in Baltimore Harbor, stayed on for a few years as Baltimore's maritime historian and eventually opened his shop in Fell's Point, The China Sea, a marine-salvage and antique shop complete with live parrots. A community leader for many years, Steve is remembered for representing the working waterfront community and helping to moderate development. He and Sharon Bondroff moved their shop to Maine in 1999 after they decided they could no longer afford the rents in Fell's Point.
In this interview, Steve tells his stories about Fell's Point and its history. The interview was conducted in his home in Maine on February 8, 2003 by Jacquie and Kraig Greff of Tonal Vision LLC in preparation for the documentary, Fell's Point Out of Time.
