Koblenz, Rhineland Palatinate, Germany - 23rd August, 2014
Koblenz also spelled Coblenz (sometimes English and pre-1926 German spelling) or Coblence (French), is a German city situated on both banks of the Rhine at its confluence with the Moselle, where the Deutsches Eck (German Corner) and its monument (Emperor William I on horseback) are situated. The city celebrated its 2,000th anniversary in 1992.
The name Koblenz originates from Latin (ad) confluentes, confluence or (at the) merging of rivers. Subsequently it was Covelenz and Cobelenz. In the local dialect the name is Kowelenz.
After Mainz and Ludwigshafen am Rhein, it is the third largest city in Rhineland-Palatinate, with a population of c. 106,000 (2006). Koblenz lies in the Rhineland, 92 kilometers (57 mi) southeast of Cologne by rail.
This film features extensive views around the city centre of Koblenz, on both sides of the Rhine, incorporating areas of both the old town (Alstadt) and new town (Neustadt). The Historic Column is the essential part of a fountain on the Josef Görres Square in the old town of Koblenz . He was donated to the city in 1992 for the 2000th anniversary of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . Completed and handed over to the city, however, it was not until June 1, 2000. Was created the fountain with history column by the sculptor Jürgen Weber .
The 10.59 meter high, 3.6 tonne heavy and 1.25 million DM expensive column tells the moving 2000-year history of the city of Koblenz in ten images from Roman times to today. From 1884 until its removal shortly after the Second World War stood at the same place the Goeben monument , in honor of the Prussian general August Karl von Goeben .

The fountain on the Gorresplatz is a gift from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate to the city, which was commissioned in 1992 on the occasion of the 2000th anniversary. However, the column was only completed in the year 2000.

VATICANO - Görres-Research Institute in the Vatican open for Students
In the heart of the Vatican lies the German cemetery of the “Campo Santo”.
Inside its walls is a special institute for research, founded by a German Journalist at the end of the 19th century - who was keen on defending the Catholic Church against the secularization by the state: Joseph Görres.
For everyone in Rome, this place can be a refuge for researchers, away from the noisy city right by a quiet green area.
