Grimaud in Südfrankreich an der Cote d' Azur am Golfe de Saint Tropez.
Grimaud ist hoch gelegen und überragt mit seiner Burgruine den Golfe von Saint Tropez. Grimaud hat etwas mehr als 4.000 Einwohner und liegt in der Region
Provence-Alpes-Cote d' Azur im Department Var in der gleichnamigen Gemeinde Grimaud.
Die Gemeinde Grimaud lebt trotz ihrer großer Weinanbaugebiete hauptsächlich vom Tourismus.
Sehenswürdigkeiten in Grimaud sind nicht nur die Ruine der alten Burg Grimaud, die umgeben ist von einer fast
7m hohen Mauer, auch die alte Dorfmühle (Moulin Saint-Roch) ist in Grimaud eine Besichtigung wert.
Grimaud der kleine alte Ort an sich ist schon selber eine Sehenswürdigkeit und nicht nur für Pflanzenliebhaber eine Augenweide. Ein Spaziergang durch Grimaud, über alten Pflastersteinen, durch die zum Teil sehr engen Gassen, ohne Autoverkehr, überall grünt und blüht es um und an den Häuserwänden nicht selten bis auf die Dächer,
und es scheint als wäre in Grimaud die Zeit stehen geblieben.
Grimaud soll im Winter durch seine Lage geschützt von den Bergen des Maurenmassivs der wärmste Ort an der
Cote d' Azur sein, was wohl diese üppige und traumhafte Vegetation in den engen Gassen von Grimaud erklärt.
Grimaud ist etwa 5 km vom Lagunenort Port Grimaud und den Stränden des Golfs von Saint Tropez entfernt. Ein kleiner Touristenzug (Petit Train) pendelt zwischen Grimaud und dem kleinen Hafenort Port Grimaud, von dem man wiederum eine günstige Verbindung mit dem Boot nach Saint Tropez und Sainte Maxime hat.

Visiting Grimaud in the South of France
This summer we took our caravan abroad for the first time, and made the epic journey from the Rhondda valley to the South of France.
After a few days recovering on the beach, we took our first excursion and visited the local village of Grimaud in Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur.
The footage doesn't do it justice - it was absolutely beautiful and a village you absolutely must visit if you're ever in the area. The weather was so warm that we stumbled up there in the early evening when it was a little cooler, and enjoyed the quiet streets and a visit of the Chateau almost entirely to ourselves.

GRIMAUD LE VILLAGE
Niché au cœur du massif des Maures et du golfe de Saint-Tropez, Grimaud est un ancien village médiéval au bord de la mer, avec à ses pieds, une cité lacustre moderne. Au Moyen Age, le territoire, l’équivalent des cantons de Grimaud et de Saint-Tropez réunis, s’appelait le Freinet ; Grimaud était alors la seigneurie principale. Dès le XIème, on trouve mention d’un castrum (habitat fortifié) à Grimaud. A partir de la fin du XIIIème siècle, une enceinte entourait le village et son château. Celui-ci après plusieurs destructions et réaménagements dont le dernier au milieu du XVème siècle, a été laissé à l’abandon après la Révolution française. Classé monument historique en 1996, un théâtre de plein air a été aménagé permettant à la commune d’organiser tous les étés, de prestigieuses manifestations. A fleur de pierre, ici tout est émotion, harmonie, plénitude, un concentré des meilleurs attraits du sud : balade autour du village médiéval, des vestiges du château, du moulin Saint-Roch et des vignobles environnants. Le cœur du village perché, merveilleusement restauré, a gardé toute son authenticité : placettes, ruelles pavées, façades de maisons aux arcades voûtées, fenêtres pastel aux volets fleuris de bougainvillées, vous émerveilleront. Incontournable, le circuit découverte de ses chapelles, du château féodal posé au sommet de la colline, témoigne d’un riche passé historique. Après avoir profité, depuis le château, de la vue inoubliable sur le golfe de Saint-Tropez, je vous invite à découvrir le Moulin Saint-Roch du XVIème, prélude à une balade en contrebas jusqu’au Pont des Fées, où vous ferez vœux de….mais cela doit rester un secret !

[EN] Port Grimaud is called French Venice or Mini Venice. It is fabulous town built purposely to be just like Venice. It is located seven kilometres south-west of Sainte Maxime and about six kilometres east of Grimaud. The town was the dream of Alsatian architect François Spoerry who in 1962 bought the marshy areas at the mouth of the river Giscle. It has been built with all channels in a Venetian manner, but with the houses having French fishermans style similar to those in Saint Tropez.

Znajduje się ono siedem kilometrów na południowy-zachód od Sainte-Maxime i około sześciu kilometrów na wschód od Grimaud. Miasto było marzeniem alzackiego architekta Françoisa Spoerry, który w 1962 roku kupił bagniste tereny przy ujściu rzeki Giscle. Wszystkie kanały miasta są zbudowane według wzoru weneckiego, jednakże architektura domów została oparta na francuskim stylu rybackim, podobnym do tego, który istnieje w Saint-Tropez.
