Our visit Naples travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide to Neapolitan cuisine, top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting cathedrals, pizzerias, the old town, quirky neighborhoods and museums. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Naples tourism brochure, Naples itinerary or Naples, Italy city tour also known as Napoli Italia.
10 Things to do in Naples, Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: (NAPOLI)
Tell anyone you’re travelling to Naples and you’ll likely get a few raised eyebrows with some side comments about the mafia, or grid-lock traffic, or garbage on the streets. Somewhere along the way, Naples seems to have earned a bad reputation, but we thought it all sounded a bit too harsh. We wanted to experience the city for ourselves, plus we’d also heard there was good pizza!
We ended up having a grand ol’ time, so join on us as we show you what you can get up to with a couple of days in Naples, plus somewhere along the way, we’ll also reveal where we ate our favourite pizza.
Piazza del Plebiscito seemed like a good place to start our tour. This is a large public square in Central Naples, that earned its name from the 1860 vote that brought Naples into the unified Kingdom of Italy.
The plaza is surrounded by numerous attractions, including the Royal Palace of Naples on one side, and the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola.
We then visited the Royal Palace of Naples. This was one of the four residences in Naples used by the Bourbon Kings during their rule of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
The admission fee was 4 Euros and this gave us access to the Royal Apartments where we got to admire porcelains, tapestries, sculptures and painted ceilings found within the palace walls.
We visited was Castel Nuovo, an imposing medieval castle that dates back to 1282. This castle was built when Charles I of Naples took the throne and moved his capital from Palermo to Naples.
Admission to the castle was 6 Euros per person.
We stopped by Caffe Gambrinus, a historic coffeehouse in the heart Naples for a bite and drink.
We visited Galleria Umberto I, which is a gallery which vaulted iron and glass ceilings, where you can shop & people watch.
This gallery dates back to the late 1880s and meant to be reminiscent of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan.
While in Naples, we took it upon ourselves to find the best pizza in the city. This involved eating a total of 10 pizzas over two days.
In the end we decided Da Michele was our personal favourite.
Because we always enjoy visiting outdoor markets wherever we go, we stopped by the Fish Market.
Moving on to museums we visited Naples National Archaeological Museum. This museum holds the Farnese Marbles, which is an impressive collection of Roman copies of classical Greek sculptures and ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
Another place we visited in Naples was the Quartieri Spagnoli, or Spanish Quarter. The streets in this quarter were laid down during the 16th century for the Spanish military barracks outside the city walls. The streets here are narrow and the buildings tall.
And that’s a wrap for our quick 2-day tour of Naples. We hope this video gave you a few ideas of things you can do in the city and all the pizza you can eat in between.
This is part of our Travel in Italy video series showcasing Italian food, Italian culture and Italian cuisine.

Napoli Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Napoli.
Napoli is the capital of Campania in southern Italy where hustle and bustle combines with serenity and joie de vivre. The Centro Storico Monumentale is located around the harbour and the Piazza Del Plebiscito embodies both grandeur and vastness, in contrast to the narrow confines of the old town. Close to the harbour is the mighty Castel Nuovo, its graceful entrance arch seemingly hemmed-in by two awkward-looking towers. Its construction began during the reign of Charles The First but Alfons Of Aragon subsequently had the castle completely rebuilt. From the centre of the town a small causeway leads to the tiny island of Borgo Santa Lucia. The island is dominated by a building which in ancient times was the residence of Lucullus, namely the Castel Dell´Ovo, the oldest fortress in Naples. The Via Partenope, with its magnificent buildings and luxury hotels on the coast near Santa Lucia, developed by land reclamation in the nineteenth century. A walk along the Caracciolo coastal road towards Mergellina passes the Parco Communale with palm trees, sculptures and fountains. Measuring four square kilometres, Procida is the smallest island off Naples, densely populated and with a long history and the picturesque Marina Grande at the Cattolocio Ferry Port typifies relaxed island life. Ischia, the island of Titan Tiphoios, is the largest of the three islands in the Gulf Of Naples, each one now being a very popular tourist destination. A piece of heaven that fell to Earth”, that is how the Neapolitans rightly refer to their beautiful city and its surroundings.

NAPLES (source Wikipedia):
Naples is the capital of the Italian region Campania and the third-largest municipality in Italy after Rome and Milan. In 2017, around 967,069 people lived within the city's administrative limits. The Metropolitan City of Naples had a population of 3,115,320. Naples is the 9th-most populous urban area in the European Union with a population of between 3 million and 3.7 million. About 4.4 million people live in the Naples metropolitan area, the second in Italy after Milan and one of the largest metropolises on the Mediterranean Sea.
Naples is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Bronze Age Greek settlements were established in the Naples area in the second millennium BC. A larger colony – initially known as Parthenope, Παρθενόπη – developed on the Island of Megaride around the ninth century BC, at the end of the Greek Dark Ages. The city was refounded by Cumaeans as Neápolis in the sixth century BC and became a linchpin of Magna Graecia, playing a key role in the merging of Greek culture into Roman society and eventually becoming a cultural centre of the Roman Republic. Naples remained influential after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, serving as the capital of the Duchy of Naples (661–1139) and of the Kingdom of Naples between 1282 and 1816. Thereafter, in union with Sicily, it became the capital of the Two Sicilies until the unification of Italy in 1861.
Naples was the most-bombed Italian city during World War II. Much of the city's 20th-century periphery was constructed under Benito Mussolini's fascist government, and during reconstruction efforts after World War II. In recent decades, Naples has constructed a large business district, the Centro Direzionale, and has developed an advanced transport infrastructure, including an Alta Velocità high-speed rail link to Rome and Salerno, and an expanded subway network, which is planned to eventually cover half of the region. The city has experienced significant economic growth in recent decades, and unemployment levels in the city and surrounding Campania have decreased since 1999.
Naples' historic city centre is the largest in Europe, covering 1,700 hectares (4,200 acres) and enclosing 27 centuries of history, and is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Naples has long been a major cultural centre with a global sphere of influence, particularly during the Renaissance and Enlightenment eras. In its geographical area are located numerous culturally and historically significant sites, including the Palace of Caserta and the Roman ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Naples is also known for its natural beauties (Posillipo, Phlegraean Fields, Nisida, Vesuvius, etc.), comparables to those of Rio de Janeiro. Culinarily, Naples is synonymous with pizza, which originated in the city and was declared as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Neapolitan music has furthermore been highly influential, credited with the invention of the romantic guitar and the mandolin, as well as notable contributions to opera and folk standards. Popular characters and historical figures who have come to symbolise the city include Januarius, the patron saint of Naples, the comic figure Pulcinella, and the Sirens from the Greek epic poem the Odyssey.

Mount Vesuvius and Herculaneum Day Trip in Naples, Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript:
The journey from Pompeii to Herculaneum is a scenic one with Mount Vesuvius to one side and the Bay of Naples to the other. It only took us 20 minutes to get there by train, so if you’re looking for a day trip, it doesn’t get much easier than this one. Just maybe don’t get off in the outskirts of town like we did, but more on that later.
Vesuvio's Express is a shuttle service that runs to the top of the volcano, so if you’re expecting a guided tour filled with lots of interesting facts, this isn’t it.
That being said, we were perfectly happy to tour the site on our own, and we couldn’t beat the price at 20 Euros per person.
The only problem we encountered was that the roads were completely iced over the further we went up the mountain, and at one point the bus just had to give up and let all the passengers off to go the rest of the way on foot.
Things got a little easier once we swapped icy paved roads for a dirt trail, though we also had snow to contend with, but we eventually reached the top. I would say one of the coolest things about hiking up to Mount Vesuvius was being able to see that it’s a volcano within a volcano, and while there was no bubbling lava visible to the eye, we could see steam rising from several vents.
Our next stop after lunch were the ruins of Herculaneum, an ancient Roman town that was destroyed by Mount Vesuvius. While Pompeii was covered in ash, Herculaneum was hit by the pyroclastic flow that followed the explosion of 79 AD, which also led to its preservation.
What at first glance appears to be a moat, is Herculaneum’s ancient shoreline. Here we were met with the aftermath of the explosion: a row of old boat houses, each of them filled with the skeleton remains of those who did not escape during the first day of the eruption.
