Sandy Hook NJ Gunnison Beach
Mid summer day last year we walked almost 300 yards just to get to here & another 200 + to water. You can see the dunes behind us NYC to our left. Cant go back in dunes anymore. Leeward side is the Raritan Bay. To the north is New York on a clear day you see the Verazzano Bridge & almost to the tip of Long Island City and NYC is right there. This is really the closest Ocean beach to NYC in NJ. We used to ride our motorcycles out there all the time, Its actually a National Park -Gateway . And The Coast Guard station is on the leeward side of the island as well on the tip. You have to know your way around to find this beach & parking lot Its north of the nude beach Its a far as you can go north before you hit live ordinance. The trick is finding the parking lot. Its one of our favorite places in NJ, its truly special .We even caught a play out there at a little theater last year. After labor day or before memorial day is the best time to go . Home of several highly acclaimed schools as well. The place is fascinating you wont be disappointed You can spend days exploring the island and fort Hancock. Bring tick spray the place is loaded ! If you go off the paths or sand you will get one I guaranty it. There a miles and miles of glorious bike paths that cover the entire island Support your park we need it to stay unspoiled and not commercialized Its being run down not enough funds going its way. Anyway I hope you can get a chance to visit then go over the bridge and eat at any number of waterside restaurants where you can get a view of it from across the bay..from the Highlands

fishing sandy hook NJ, OCTOBER FALSE ALBACORE ON GULP!? LIL' TUNERRR
started the day throwing an SP minnow looking for blues and striped bass, caught sight of some albies so i threw on an epoxy jig then a deadly dick but they would not hit. went to a bucktail with a grub to try a different approach at the blues and bass but wound up hooking into a nice false lil tunerrr. I fished from about 8am-10am, there was a 10-15 mph W wind which was nice but picked up to 20-25mph after 10am flushing me out for the day.
filmed on 10-17-18
