Jungle Trek 2 - Bolivia Trip 2012
This was our big trek at the Hotel Castillo del Loro near Chulumani in Los Yungas. We headed off across a wire bridge (my son says that it was made of tin foil). After that we wandered up the side of the valley until we reached two separate waterfalls. We got to wade through them. The kids had NO fear.

Death Road Biking Tour in La Paz - Bolivia | Altitude Travel
The Death Road is one of the most unique activities Bolivia has to offer. Book Now:
Where else in the world can you cycle from snow-covered Andean Mountains all the way down to the entrance of the amazon jungle in a just a few hours? Internationally known for being the highlight of one’s trip when in South America, this exciting bike ride exposes some of Bolivia’s most breath-taking landscapes, beautiful mountains and sparkling waterfalls.
The Death Road, or “Camino de la Muerte” in Spanish, was cut on the side of the Cordillera Oriental Mountain chain in the 1930s and stretches for about 70km from La Paz to Coroico, connecting the Yungas(an ecoregion of the Amazon rain forest northeast of La Paz) to the administrative capital. From La Paz, the road climbs to around 4700 meters above sea level (over 15 thousand feet) at La Cumbre–in the Altiplano highlands- before descending to 1300 meters (4 thousand feet) to the Yungas, allowing travelers to experience an incredible change in both temperature and landscapes.
Surrounded by mountainous terrain and high precipices, the road gained its fame and name due to its danger and adrenaline-rush potential. In the 2000s, the modernization of the road and construction of an alternative one diverted the traffic and allowed for more safe conditions. Nowadays, this electrifying activity is suitable for both confident beginners and experienced mountain bikers of all ages.
As one of the highest ranked biking operators in Bolivia, at Altitude Biking we pride ourselves on providing the best in security, professionalism and fun. Our service includes safe vehicles, best-quality equipment and bikes, highly skilled English speaking tour guides 1 every 5 passengers, trained in Advanced First Aid, Mechanics and Rope Rescue- and fast contingency plans in place for any occurrence. From the Andes to the Jungle, we designed a package that will allow you to experience this incredible adrenaline-pumping activity in total security, while guaranteeing an incomparable life experience.

Visiting Isla Del Sol and Copacabana on Lake Titicaca, Bolivia Travel Video Transcript:
Good morning! Good morning everyone. It's bright and early today. We're here at Copacabana and this is the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca. We are going to an island called Isla del Sol which is the island of the sun. And we almost didn't think we'd be able to go today. We woke up and there is thunder and lightening. There was all kinds of rain. It was pouring. It was pouring outside but it has really cleared up now and we're excited to see if we can take the trip today. So the island is somewhere off in the distance over there.
So we have just arrived in Isla del Sol and the sun came out just in time. Now we're going to go visit some ruins and then we're planning to hike from the north end of the island to the south end.
The first thing that struck us about Isla del Sol were the landscapes. We had to climb some pretty steep inclines to reach the top of the island but once we did we got some incredible views of our surroundings. We also enjoyed making friends with lots of animals along the way including sleepy pigs basking in the sunshine and a mix of horses and donkeys.
While we enjoyed our day trip to Isla del Sol we did feel our visit was a bit rushed. We managed to walk the length of the island but we only made it back on the boat with 10 minutes to spare. Crossing the island takes a lot longer than tour operators let on so if you really want to visit and you don't mind a remote setting you may want to consider spending a night or two on Isla del Sol.
So hello from Copacabana. Hello! We're not in the famed beach from Rio de Janeiro this is actually a small little town on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca and we've been spending the past 5 days here. Yeah. Just relaxing, getting some rest and we actually left the vlogging until the very last day. I know, unfortunately it is a rainy day. Today is very overcast. What can you do. We're going to go out there and you show you the town anyway. Yep.
Right here is the main drag of town. You're going to find your restaurants, bars and live entertainment. And lots of hippies.
If there is one meal that you absolutely must try when you visit Copacabana and that is rainbow trout fished straight out of Lake Titicaca over there.
So you could choose an ordinary restaurant to have trout but where are we instead? Yeah, we're along the boardwalk and there are a gazillion restaurants literally lined along here. There actually not even restaurants. They are more like little stands. Yeah, exactly. Just like what you're seeing here. Tarp walls. And honestly we don't know where to go we just walked by a whole bunch of them and decided okay let's pick the last one why don't we go there. Yeah.
So this is the first bite. So what is this called locally? Trucha. Trucha. Trucha. We'll see.
So we just finished our meal. Now it is time to go paddle boat riding because we're all about cheesy adventure activities. Maybe we can get one that looks like a swan or a duck. It'll be fun. Yeah, let's do it.
So like we mentioned at the start of our vlog we haven't really been doing a whole lot in Copacabana. We've just been resting and relaxing and the highlight has actually been our accommodations. We're staying at a pretty cool place called Las Olas where they have like these weird cottages some of them look like tree houses, some of them are like little spirals and they have domes and I don't know. It just looks like this fantasy land so we're going to take you up and show you our cottage.
So here we are just swaying on the hammocks. Yep. What are your final impressions of Copacabana since we're leaving tomorrow? Well, Copacabana was everything we wanted it to be basically. We had been hiking in Machu Picchu, you know hiking the Inca Trail and then we really had a busy hiking tour while we were visiting Lake Titicaca on the Peruvian side. So we just wanted to come to a place that was really chill, that had a kind of a relaxed vibe and that was affordable. And Copacabana checked off all three of those boxes.

Mountain Biking Death Road in Bolivia's Jungle
Hi Guys,
We made it to La Paz, Bolivia! The first thing we wanted to do was to do a day trip to Death Road and bike the entire road, it's about 60KM of downhill mountain biking. The Terrain varies and has a continuous 400 meter cliff on the one side, while taking you through different micro climates. We biked through waterfalls, puddles, smooth road, bumpy road, desert like conditions, cold weather, clouds and a jungle. The deathroad bike ride is one of the most beautiful and scenic bike rides you will ever experience.
Death road is still accessible by car, however most people use the new and improved road. Death road is now primarily used for mountain biking tours. Our tour started at 7AM and finished at 9PM, it's a very long day. Biking death road was one of the best experiences we had when we we're in Bolivia and we highly recommend it. We used a company called Gravity, you can find them on trip advisor, they have great reviews and we felt safe the entire time.
The Yungas Road is a cycle route about 60 km long which links the city of La Paz and the Yungas region of Bolivia. The route includes the Cotapata-Santa Bárbara section that replaced the old Road of Death, currently reserved exclusively for cycling activities. The road was built in 1930.

TOURING SILVER MINES IN BOLIVIA
After Sucre, we headed on a four-hour trip down to Potosi, Bolivia where the town is famous for the silver mining tours! We booked our mining tour with a company called 'The Big Deal' that is run by a few ex-miners and would completely recommend this tour group. We take you along with us on a tour to the famous Cerro Rico Mountain or called Rich Mountain. Potosi was once a major hub for the supply of silver for Spain during the period of the New World Spanish Empire. They were one of the richest cities in the world 500 years ago. Learn more about the silver mines here

Sandra Travels Uyuni, Bolivia
We were on a 3 day trip in the worlds largest salt desert, in Bolivia. Turned out to be the worst tour I have ever been on, because the guide was just a driver (quiet all the time) and he fell asleep behind the wheel several times. We drove of the road 3 times. Why? Because he was DRUNK!!! We saw him drinking beer for breakfast. This is a video showing me driving the jeep, while the driver is sleeping of the alcohol. DO NOT TRAVEL WITH SANDRA TRAVELS!
